Gordon Gekko

Saw "Wall Street" again the other night, Douglass plays this role perfectly.

Lane Meyer, Simon Wilder, Nick Rivers, Chris Knight, Mickey and Mallory Knox just to name a few.

Have to add Farmer Vicent Smith and his lovely sister Ida.

Matt Damon's character from Rounders

Robert Redford's character Dennis Finch from Out of Africa

Clint Eastwood's from Unforgiven

Al Pacino's from Scent of A Woman

Robin Williams' from Good Will Hunting

Denzel Washington's from He Got Game

Ed Norton in just about anything, but his character from The 25th Hour

Brad Pitt from A River Runs Through It

Meryl Streep's Karyn Blixen from Out of Africa

Lloyd Bridges' character from Cousins

More later...have to think about more of the female characters I really liked, too.

Why do I get the feeling this list will read something like

Tracy Ryan's in Web of Seduction

Renee Rea in Forbidden

Misty Mundae in Mummy Raider

While I have a real hard time arguing against Darth Vader ... thing is ... he's got these black eye's, lifeless eye's, like a dolls eye's ... and he doesn't seem to be livin'. Oh, until he bites ya, and those black eye's roll over white, and spite all the poundin' and the hollerin' ... they all come in and ... rip you to pieces.

IMHO, the best American character, in the history of American film, is Quint from Jaws.

First off, NAME the movie your characters are in too, mkay?

To me, a favorite character is the perfect blend of the actor and the role. - Somebody who just MAKES that part to the point that you can't see anybody else doing it.

I know there are a lot of them, but the first one to come to mind is:

Inspector Jack Cates in 48 Hours. Perfect role for Nolte. Almost like it was written with him in mind.

I know it's animation, but you gotta love: Shrek/meyers and Aladdin/Williams. Signature roles for both of them.

Mickey Rourke as "Marv" in Sin City. - Best role ever for him. Wish they'd do another movie just about that character alone.

Gary Oldman as "Stansfield" in "The Professional". Maybe one of the best bad guys ever.

In fact, Jean Reno as "Leon" and Natalie Portman as "Mathilda" were all excellent characters. When I saw Natalie's performance as a little girl - long before she got famous - I thought to myself "she's gonna be big time".

As mentioned earlier, Clint Eastwood in the Unforgiven was a perfect marriage of the role with where he was at his life. Much like John Wayne's character in "The Shootist" was the perfect last role for him at that stage of his life.

Gene Hackman's character in the Unforgiven was a perfect fit too.

I'm sure there are many more...

THE LATE ... Robert Shaw ... Qunt in Jaws.

That's the answer.

Brody: What's that one ... there ... on your arm?

Quint: Ah chief ... that was a tatoo. I got that removed.

Hooper: Let me guess, let me guess .... MOTHER! Hah hah hah

Quint: Nah, Mr. Hooper, that was the U.S.S. Indinapolis.

Hooper: You were on the Indianapolis?

Brody: What happened?

Quint: Three torpedoes slammed into our side chief .... we was commin' back from Tinian to Lahedy ... just delivered the bomb ... the Hiroshima bomb.

Val Kilmer - Doc Holliday (Tombstone)

John Malkovich - Teddy KGB (Rounders)

Both were played to perfection, and I can't imagine anyone else doing as good a job.

If you wanna go monologue for monologue ... I have three favorites.

#1 Quint in Jaws "The Indianapolis"

#2 Hanibal Lechter in Silence of the Lambs, "Remember how all those boys found you, all those tedious sticky fumblings in the back seats of cars .."

And this maybe #1 or #2, but Pacino in Scarface ...

"You're all a bunch of focking ass-holes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be! You need poeple like me. YOU NEED PEOPLE LIKE ME! So you can point your focking fingers ... and say, 'THAT'S THE BAD GUY'! So .... what's that make you good? You're not good. You just know how to hide .... how to lie. Me ... I don't have that problem. ME!? I always tell the truth. Even when I lie."

Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke...can't believe I forgot that one.

Viggo Mortenson in Hidalgo

Holly Hunter in Raising Arizona...shoot, Holly Hunter in anything... :D

Sonaa Lathan in Love and Basketball

Ed Harris in the Abyss...that scene where he's reviving Mary Elizabeth Mastrontonio...great scene--that's exactly the only time you should ever hit an unarmed woman and not in self defense.

Angela Bassett in Waiting to Exhale and What's Love Got to Do With It

Robert DeNiro in Angel Heart (Lisa Bonet wasn't bad, either...)

The entire cast of the movie Out of Sight...very good flick.

Bruce Willis' character in Pulp Fiction

Russell Crowe in Gladiator

Kevin Kline in Silverado

Sam Shephard in The Right Stuff

Debra Winger in ...can't remember the movie but with her and Anthony Hopkins

Absolute favorite...Gene Wilder in Willie Wonka And The Chocolate Factory. Johnny Depp was doing a Michael Jackson impersonation. Wilder hits much closer to home with that character in my opinion...smart, kind, but eccentric in a bit of a scary fun way

Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

:shocking:

Honorable mention

Trent-Swingers

I don't want you to be the guy in the PG-13 movie everyone's *really* hoping makes it happen. I want you to be like the guy in the rated R movie, you know, the guy you're not sure whether or not you like yet. You're not sure where he's coming from. Okay? You're a bad man. You're a bad man, Mikey. You're a bad man, bad man.
