Omarkel,

I work in the medical feild in a hospital and see cancer patients extremely often.

I would like you to know that your approach, and mental strength through this may be one of the most important factors in this process. I do believe strongly that in cases were a patient has a a fatal disease, or even a dibilitating one, that the mind has just more to do witht he outcome then anything else and I have seen many positive psychosomatic process's.

I have seen patients live years past when the amount of time doctors tell them, and I have seen MANY patients in which cancer completely disapears. The most relevant was actually my sister who was diagnosed with breast cancer and during her prep for surgery the doctors called off the surgery as her cancer cells simply disapeared. Besides this happening, I have seeen people be go in a state remission all the time. One of the patients I have worked with had a brain tumor removed only to lose all of his motor abilities taken away, basically becoming a vegetable temporarily. It took him months of therapy to get all his cordination back. But after all that work the tumor grew back, not once, but twice. Three times that man had surgery, thought he was going to die, and had to overcome becoming temporarily paralyzed. Three times he had to learn how to eat again, walk, and go to the bathroom on his own. After the third time his cancer went into remission and hes fine ever since!

I have also seen patients with less advanced stages of cancer that have a "why me" atitude, that eventually give up and dye way sooner then any doctor could predict. They basically give up, lie in bed, too depressed to help themselves.

My advise for you would be to embrace the stages that one would go through when hearing the type of news your in. The stages are: denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Bargaining for example is asking god for more time so that you could see your childs graduation or wedding for example. The key here is depression and acceptance. Many people dont get past depression, but if you can and you start becoming positive and fighting youll be in the best state to live a normal life like anyone else.

As somone that has seen death on a daily basis, please remember that the mind has more effect on your future then ANY other factors. Your approach, and how you carry yourself may really be the difference between life and death.

Make your own luck my friend, your going to find out more about yourself now then ever.

I'm with you O. Back in 1998 I had testicular cancer, had a testicle removed and had 20 radiation treatments. Everything seems clear now. I had a type of cancer that has a high success rate so I was lucky in that aspect. I do have an enlarged Prostate at the present that has to be monitored.

There is a lot of truth and strength in what yakoOo said. With cancer you have to make yourself available to every kind of treatment. Physical, mental and spiritual. Since you're under 40 your youth can be helpful as well. You may respond better to treatment and be able to tolerate treatment better than an older person may. I'm 55 and didn't have trouble with the radiation. Of course I didn't have to have Chemo and I know some people have a difficult time with it. I'm sure you'll do everything in your power to combat this and you WILL have success.

While the physical and mental part of combating is crucial the spiritual part CANNOT be overlooked. Using your own spirituality can be a powerful weapon. Prayer , while it may be trivial to some, is very strong medicine. It was something that surely helped get me through my ordeal.I WILL pray for you and if you don't mind I would like to add your name to a prayer list for some of my closest friends that went through my cancer with me. Medicine is making new advances all the time in the treatment of cancer and doctors are better equipped today than they were 10 years ago. So my friend, make use of all the tools at your disposal in fighting this cancer. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers daily. I'M A SURVIVOR AND YOU CAN BE TOO!!!!!

keep your head up and keep up the fight man. you'll be back in no time. Godspeed.

Good luck, Omar. Fight like you've never fought before. You're one of the people here that, to my recollection, never starts arguments with anyone and always treats people with respect - you just want to talk football.

Hang in there - we're all rooting for ya.

Only a complete pussbag would let something stupid like prostate cancer prevent him from posting.

But seriously, though - get healthy with the fewest complications as possible. Sure would be nice if you could drag a laptop around and give us a journal or some kind of good and bad updates along the way... maybe bring a greater awareness for the old farts on this board to take getting regular checkups very seriously.

Best wishes... get your butt back soon... uhhh, no pun intended? :overhead:

Anyway, congrats on the recovery, and good luck this season.

I'm not the most religious person out there but here is something I hear every Sunday right before the end of every church service:

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favor and give you peace. Amen

Take care, good luck and God bless!
