1991 - Jerry Rice

I was the ONLY guy with fantasy mag (FFIndex) and all the other guys were like, "What's that?"

I destroyed the 10-team league with this squad:

QB - Mark Rypien

QB - Chris Miller

QB - Steve Young

RB - Emmitt Smith

RB - Rodney Hampton

RB - Brad Baxter

RB - Brad Muster

WR - Jerry Rice

WR - Rob Moore

WR - Brian Blades

WR - Wendall Davis

TE - Mike Tice

TE - Awalt (had to I.R. Eric Green)

K - Jeff Jaeger

K - Scott Norwood

D - Atlanta

D - TB

Ahhhh....the memories!!

Hilarious! Same here. 1993, I think we had the only mag at the draft, maybe one other person...Warren Moon on the cover. Had to take him! I dont think we had a clue what we were doing, but I ended up winning the league. Although we have the stats somewhere, I cant remember the entire team. The next season I had almost the entire Chiefs lineup...Montana, Marcus Allen, Willie Davis, Lake Dawson, Keith Cash, D/ST....I still remember the Monday night game when Montana hit Davis to win the game for me.

It was more fun when you had to research and find nuggets of info. back in then day. Now, someone doesn't even have to know what a running back does and could win a league. The internet levels the playing field, but it's still a blast!

It is so much different now.. no internet back in the day.. we used to cut the box scores out of the paper on Monday morning and go over them inch by inch to look at the stats to see what players did what and to see if anybody was available to pick up on waivers that was worth a crap... Those were the good old days.. but the internet makes it easier that is for sure...

I started in '88 but had Montana at 1.05. i believe Boomer and Marino went before me as well as herschel walker and eric dickerson. you couldnt have had Emmit unless stats from college counted in your league. his rookie year was 1990 and i had him 3 out of 5 years until my group of friends converted to keeper league (i picked him at 1.01 in 1996 and he never left the roster until he moved to Zona :-()

This thread brings me back. My first pick was Steve Young.

Question for those who have played 10+ yers or so. Do you think FF is easier now then it was then? Now any joe Schmoe can log into a website and get advice and cheatsheets back in the day you did it on your own. Also, do you find it more fun now then in years back.

I'd say it's more fun now because of how competitive it's gotten as opposed to who happened to read the paper today! I can still remember sprinting to the newsstands on Monday mornings to get the stats as the commish so that I could post the scores. It's quite comical to think how archaic it was back in the day. The managers would congregate over my place to compare stats and check the standings I'd post. Good times.

The worst part was waiting for Tuesday's paper to get the MNF scores. If the game ended too late, the box score wouldn't appear until Wednesday!

Terrell Davis - '97

Rode huge performances by Kordell Stewart and Yancey Thigpen to the title game. Then they returned to being themselves in the championship. :bandana:

Jeff George :headbanger:

10th overall out of 12 in 1998. Won the league even though he was hurt mid-season.

Started playing in 2002, my first pick was LaDainian Tomlinson. Had the 2nd overall pick, I was hoping to get Ricky Williams but he went 1st pick overall. Boy was I lucky. We are allowed 1 keeper so I've had LT ever since then. Good thing i didn't get Ricky :headbanger:

This is our 23rd year. I think I have some materials back to '86. We rotate commish every year or two, so it was hard to keep all of our old records.

It was a lot more fun back then, but we were still in high school and harassed each other mercilessly about our teams between classes, in study hall, and at lunch every day from September through December. Good times. E-mail's just not the same.

Great thread!

2001 - Eddie George :headbanger: (at one point he lost me a game by rushing for squat and fumbling on a Monday night)

Oh, and I dropped Priest like 2 games into the season

1991 Emmitt Smith

I alos remember back in the day when I traded away Herman Moore for Natrone Means Businezz...ended up going to New Orleans that year on a mini vacation, and the Chargers were in town playing the Saints...Means had 3 rushing TDs, and 2 others called back on holding penalties (on those plays, Carney kicked field goals)

I always loved going to an NFL game and seeing my guys have an awesome game....that was a memorable one.

One other time I had TE Johnny Mitchell from the Jets, he had 2 TDs and a ton of yards while I was at the game...

Marshall Faulk. The first year he played for the rams.

Curtis Martin - he had busted off some crazy number of consecutive 1,000 yard seasons. Of course I draft him, and he fails to crack it that year. Live and learn!

Jim Everett.... I believe it was 1989..... maybe 88 ????????????

My 2nd pick was Robb Riddick..... Buffalo goal line vulture... after scoring like 14 Td's the season before he was cut or suspended or something right after our draft (which was done way too early ).....

God that sucked ball$

I got into FF only recently, myself. My first ever draft pick was Jamal Lewis in 2005, somewhere around the 7th or 8th pick. I was convinced that Lewis would be recovered and return to being a top-notch back: LOL @ me, that didn't turn out to be the case.

All wasn't for naught though, I drafted Rudi Johnson in the 2nd round and Carson Palmer (who I especially targeted) in the 4th. Suffice to say those guys helped carry my team to much success in my rookie FF season, I was a bad Palmer game (Week 13 or 14 it was) away from winning it all.

1996 and I drew the first pick in the draft:

1.1 Emmit Smith

2.12 Scott Mitchell :dunno:

3.1 Terrell Davis (a second year back coming off a modestly successful rookie campaign).

My WRs were the suck and I fianished under .500 I believe.

Sadly, I have this beat (also 1996):

1.08 Scott Mitchell  :overhead:

It gets worse:

Either 2.04 or 3.08 (can't remember which) Edgar Bennett

Ahhhhh, the memories....

I started around 95. My first pick was Steve Young. I remember making my list and planning my strategy. I took John Kasay in the 7th or 8th round and they all laughed at me.....little did I know!!

Now I wait until at least the 9th round!

I prove to be a true homer with my first two picks ever in fantasy football. I had the 10th pick in my 10 team draft. I chose raven QB Elvis Grbac with the 10th and raven TE Shannon Sharpe with the 11th. Needless to say, I didn't do so well. That's funny.

I think the year was 1998, and I picked Brett Favre with the second overall pick. I remember thinking it would be a great idea to pick Antonio Freeman to go along with him, so I drafted him in the second round. I don't think the rest of my team was any good, I'm thinking I finished 6-8 or something that year.

2006

1 - Rudi Johnson - Good start

2 - Lamont Jordan - Very Very Very Bad

It wasnt my proudest moment cutting him in the 4th week.

Doubt anyone can top this as worst 1st pick ever in FF.

1998 one of my college roomates gets me in a league with some older guys he knows. I ride with him on the way to the draft reading a magazine I bought a day or 2 before. Dont remember my exact draft spot but it was toward the end of the 1st. I decide to take who the magazine touted as the next great QB in FF coming off a 21 passing TD and 11 rushing TD season . . . . . . . . . .

Kordell Stewart

Hey, I've come a long way.

I broke every rule in the book my first year, but lucked the fock out and ended up 2nd. 1999 8 team league.

I signed up the day of the draft and got a magazine. Never even heard of FF before that.

Peyton Manning

Antonio Freeman

Marshall Faulk (first year with the greatest show on turf)

Jerome Bettis

Oh in the 15th round, someone says "who's Stephen Davis? I'll take him"

I would own nowadays.

2005 - With the 8th overall pick I selected Edgerrin James. Took Cadillac Williams that year too and traded him for LJ just in time. (like week 10 or something?)

It was a great first year. :dunno:

1996 - Jeff Blake in a points only league. I was a last minute fill in and knew nothing about Fantasy Football. My second round pick was Jerome Bettis, I finished 5th in a 12 team league.
