Lions are ready too let's go!!

I like the Henne pick in the third round.

AS far as Manningham smoking a little big deal....

Manningham has been a playmaker for U of M for the last few years. I like those two on the Bears.

He would be starting over Tapp by the end of the upcoming season. I really agree about trading out of this spot.

In the other thread, you mentioned TE, but I don't see a TE worthy of a 1st round pick this year, maybe not even 2nd round worthy as the group looks weak this year, and rookie TEs very, very infrequently make any kind of impact in their first year; just too much to learn in blocking schemes. DT was a thought, but I didn't have one on the board better than 35. I didn't want to reach. I like Stewart as he slid down, and I've been second guessing the pick since I made it. I had Merling going much higher. I looked over about 20 mock drafts this morning, and I never once saw Merling going past Washington at 1.21. A lot of mocks had him going to Buffalo about 10 picks earlier. I took a guy that shouldn't have slid down so far. It was tempting, and I bit.

When Mora was with Atlanta, he put a lot of emphasis on sacks. His defense was very good at rushing the passer, especially from the defensive line. I suspect he will want to build something similar in Seattle. Then again, he put a lot of emphasis on running the ball too. Sigh.

Bump the other thread, or start another one for our next pick. I'll want to talk over the next one.

Sorry I wasn't around. Didn't know this was going on. Stewart should have been the pick.

Still a bunch of very good RB prospects left.

If I didn't take Merling, Stewart would have been the pick. I simply thought there was more value with Merling. Stewart dropped into the middle of the 2nd round. If I could have made a trade to get Stewart in the 2nd, I would have wheeled and dealed.

3.12 - 49ers select Marcus Harrison, DT, Arkansas

Definitely a need position, but in the third round?? He had knee surgery in 2006, tore his ACL in 2007, and was arrested on drug charges in 2007. He probably wouldn't have gone until 4 or 5. Big reach.

Just to map out how I feel we should have gone with the how players fell to us:

1st: Antoine Cason CB (Arizona)

2nd: Dre Moore DT (Maryland)

3rd: John Greco OT (Toledo)

RAIDERS GA-GA FOR GHOLSTON?

At a time when many league observers believe that the Oakland Raiders won’t be able to resist the 4.33 speed of running back Darren McFadden with the fourth overall pick in the draft, a league source tells us that there are “strong indications” that the Raiders will select Ohio State linebacker/defensive end Vernon Gholston.

Gholston’s stock has improved dramatically as a result of pre-draft workouts. If drafted by the Raiders, he would likely supplant Jay Richardson at right defensive end.

And if the Raiders pass on McFadden, look for the Cowboys to try to make a move north, possibly by trading their two first-round picks (No. 22 and No. 28 overall) to the Jets at No. 6 or the Patriots at No. 7.

For the Pats, the move would be a no-brainer, since it would restore the first-rounder they lost due to Spygate, and it would give them two cracks in round one, at much smaller financial investments.

In the Belichick-Pioli era, the Patriots have found guys like Vince Wilfork, Laurence Maroney, Ben Watson, Logan Mankins, and Daniel Graham by picking in round one after the twentieth overall selection.

I liked the Merling pick. I think Stewart will make a great pro, but I'm feeling more and more comfortable with our RB situation every day. Julius Jones will be reborn this year, his skillset is perfect for the West Coast Offense. Personally I would have rolled the dice on Balmer, but any help on the D line is always a good thing. Taking the first TE of the draft in the 2nd was a given. There are also backs left in the draft with as much potential as Stewart IMO.

And since I'm acting as The Ram's GM please disregard this post.

Also, nice pick by Carolina. As I stated on page 10, I was a ###### hair away from taking this guy, but the whole fat, lazy, reporting to camp 70 lbs overweight every year possibility scared me away...that and Rachal having way too much value to pass up (no way he slides to the 3rd in the real draft).

Still, if Okam gets motivated he'll be worth his weight in gold

I really like Matt Forte in the mid-third.

I know him well, very talented, very much an all around RB.

Most expect him to be chosen in the early second, he's really a steal in the 3rd.

I will do back flips if the Saints are able to get Leodis McKelvin, Trevor Laws, Matt Forte with their first 3 picks.

I do too.

I wouldn't mind that actually, as long as that makes Cromartie, Sed. Elllis or Glen Dorsey fall to 10.

But in all reality, I think that whichever CB the Ravens don't take, that's the one that New Orleans will take - hopefully Cromartie. But I really like McKelvin too.

I will be worried if we don't get a CB in the first, because that's where the talent is. There are a few Cover 2 corners that will be good value later in the draft, but after this first round - there isn't much left for Man to Man cover corners.

I would much rather pick a Linebacker in the 2nd, instead of the first - just because of the value in the second, that's why I don't want us to pick Keith Rivers in the first. Just because I think there will be a simliar talent available later, such has Curtis Lofton or Mayo.

Dre Moore went in the 2nd to Cincinatti. I've seen a few sites rank Harrison as a 2-3 round prospect with the injury and character concerns. It seems like the guy is a hell of an athlete for his size. Cason, to be honest, I somehow forgot about. I would have definitely thought about him at that spot.

Edit: I just figured out that was for each round...I'm an idiot.

Terrell Thomas is an injury concern, but our secondary has been/and continues to be terrible, and a real problem for us. He would compete at both CB and FS, at least push Demps who I actually like personally. Even with FA signings (they are old) CB is a huge concern for the Texans. I also feel they are attempting to build a defense over an offense given the choice. The OT in the first was just something that couldn't be passed up value/need wise.

NO RECEIVERS IN ROUND ONE?

With the mediocre 40-yard dash generated by Oklahoma Malcolm Kelly and the ill-advised decision to blame the school for his performance, the receiver whom many thought had the best shot at being picked in round one is now likely to fall out of the first round.

And with Kelly’s stock dropping, some league insiders believe that there now could be no receiver picked in round one this year.

Other pass-catchers who are sliding include Limas Sweed of Texas and Early Doucet of LSU.

Vikings 3rd round selections:

John Carlson: Shiancoe is nothing special, and is overpaid. I believe Carlson was considered a borderline 1st rounder at one point, and is a good pass catcher. Gives Jackson a target in the middle of the field, and in the redzone.

Oniel Cousins: Experienced at both tackle positions, and should be able to play guard. Immediately pushes Ryan Cook for the starting RT spot, and can get moved around in case of injury (or Bryant McKinnie suspension).

The Bucs are ecstatic to get a guy in the 3rd round that they shouldn't have gotten. Chris Johnson will give them exquisite depth at a position where they might not have Cadillac next year. Johnson is a great foil for Graham and should improve the running game that saw Pittman leave without a contract. Graham should get the bulk of the carries with Johnson spelling him on 3rd downs and helping out on the return game. The Bucs return game with Johnson and DeSean Jackson is a major upgrade.

I'm pretty drunk and I don't know if Jordy Nelson WR out of K State is a good pick in the third but he's 6-3 about 220 so I'm hoping Zorn does something with him.

He just started playing WR in 2005 so he could be a project?

3.23 Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas

This was the best available player, and it wasn't even close. I had this guy rated higher than Ray Rice, Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, and other similar tier players, so I'm happy he fell from a probable 2nd round draft potential to Seattle in the 3rd round.

Charles is still a bit raw, as he didn't have a lot of time as the starter in Texas. He is extremely explosive, can go the distance with any carry, hits the hole hard, explosive speed in the open, and quick to the hole. He is basically the anti-Shan Alexander. There are many Seahawk fans, like myself, who felt that Shaun Alexander, for all the good things he did, he danced around too much, trying to make the big play. He just didn't grind it out all that well. Charles can do that. In fact, he has been tagged with a description that sometimes he tries to outrun his brain, not thinking out the play properly, playing too fast. Experience is the cure for this ailment. He won't have to be the feature back right away, as we have added Julius Jones and TJ Duckett to Maurice Morris, with Alexander expected to be cut. But this guy can be eased into a committe situation to give the Seahawks a very deep and versatile RB core.

So far...

Phillip Merling, DE, Clemson

Dustin Keller, TE, Purder

Jamaal Charles, RB, Texas.

He's a pretty focking great returner and at least a downfield threat on offense.

Amen to that. Never heard of the kid, but if you like him I'll root for the Hawks taking him in the real draft.

So...how long am I supposed to hang-out before I make my pick???

Not sure what the time-limit is for this thing. Or even if we have a time-limit. Just curious if we should keep waiting for the Steelers GMs to make their pick or if we should come to some sort of consensus for them...

;)

Also...kutulu...you need to update the pick thread.

From the 4th round thread....

In an effort to put this to bed by next weekend, starting on Monday 11:00 am EST we will put in a one hour time limit through 3:00 pm EST. Then from 3:00 pm EST to 9:00 pm EST it will be a two hour time limit.

After the time limit, whoever is around can have a brief discussion/debate on whatever team is up and their next pick and then we will just go with some sort of "consensus" pick to keep this puppy moving.

Also, kutulu said he wasn't going to be around for a few days.

Did you not understand the "starting at Monday at 11AM EST" thing? During the weekends, many people are not here. We might be people without lives, but that does not mean that there are not others who enjoy their families. Cut them some slack until tomorrow at 11AM.

BTW - Excellent job in compiling the picks by position. Thanks.
