The Dark Knight Opens!

Recommended Posts

I thought there were a few scenes where Maggie looked strange as well. But she did do a really good job acting the role. I thought Katie Holmes absolutely sucked in Batman Begins and was glad to not see her again.

Did the other theaters show 7 previews before the feature? I was getting pissed. Got to the theater 25 min early to get a good seat then had to wait through pretty close to a half an hour of previews. This made the 2.5 hour movie seem way longer than it should have.

What I liked:

The plot was overall very good. I liked how the Joker has no loyalty to anyone even his own crew. This acting job makes Jack Nicholson look horrible in retrospect.

Ledger constantly licking his lips and his other physical ticks really sold the character. Nice to see it live up to the hype. His performance solely negated anything I didn't like about the movie. Should be a shoe in for best supporting as of now.

Two face looked awesome. Top notch CGI.

The pencil trick. :dunno:

The end of the movie was cool. Took a while to get to it but it was spot on when they did.

What I didn't like:

Not enough bat gadgets. Nothing in his arsenal really blew me away. The bat bike was so-so IMHO. He should have had more neato gadgets like the bat summoner in his boot in the first movie.

You never get to find out what really happened to the Jokers face!

I knew Lt. James Gordon couldn't in anyway possibly be dead due to the screeners showing him smashing the bat light with the axe. which had not happened yet.

They tried to fit a bit to much into this one. The scene of the guy trying to extort Lucius Fox was funny, but they should have left it there. No need to follow up on it IMHO. Probably could have clipped a few more scenes to keep the movie plot flowing a bit better without sacrificing the overall storyline.

I kinda thought that Lucius Fox protesting the use of the supercomputer was a poorly veiled dig at the administration. Maybe I misinterpret it but if not I wish directors would stop trying to get in silly little political cheap shots. Lucas did it in SW III also.

Well, you know certain people can't die because they appear later in comics, series, whatever. For instance, Batman won't die. Alfred won't die. Etc. Some of the mystery is gone just because it's a comic book movie.

I thought that they crammed a lot into the movie, but I didn't think it was too much. I thought it all contributed pretty well and that, despite the length, it didn't really slow down.

As far as the supercomputer, I thought it fit with the theme of moral dilemma, which was repeated several times throughout the movie. Maybe the political statement was a secondary goal, but it didn't seem out of place to me.

Absolutely agree with the rest of your review.

 Amazing movie for sure, lived up to the hype, which is rare. Ledger did an incredible job, i do think people are more focused on his performance because of his death, but, it definitely would've got recognition either way. I also agree it did tail off a littler bit when they introduced the 2-face, who wasn't really a villain, but...well you'll see if you haven't seen it yet.

However, the greatest movies of all time, like The Godfather for example, were so great because of their originality. This movie has been done before, and we already knew what happens and so on. That is what is preventing this movie from being a true all-time great. Certainly one of the best, if not the best, super-hero movie ever.

Seriously, Ledger's Joker HAS to be, almost without a doubt, the best villain in a movie ever.

I will give it a 9.5/10.....

This movie didn't disappoint even going in with high expectations. I agree with others comments about the ending though.

I have not seen the movie yet. Probably wont until it hits DVD. I am curious as to what led you to make this statement though. There have been some pretty damn good villains over the years in movies. Darth Vader, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Terminator, Jason Voorhees, HAL 9000, Hannibal Lecter, come to mind immediately. I am not saying this guy playing the joker is not the best ever, cause I have not seen this movie. It may very well be the best villain ever. Just wondering what made this role so greta to anoint him as the best villain of all time.

Definitely one of the greatest, but he still falls short to. . .

Great movie. The audience..not so much. Saw it on IMAX but I have never in life been in a room with more than 10 people weighing 300-400 lbs before (naturally I got stuck sitting next to possibly the fattest one).

saw it in imax. amazing.

ledger was the best villain maybe ever...not the character of the joker being the best villain ever (i.e. it was the acting)

agree with the maggie gyll face weirdness

never expected them to go outside of gotham like they did

plenty of gadgets. the last 'gadget' having to do with batman's

vision

was sick

totally disagree with the last 30 min being boring or that two-face wasnt developed well. loved how they ended that part (the undertones of the 'big 3' good guys). i couldnt believe how fast the 2.5 hours went.

the joker telling diff stories about his scars was so much better than giving a real reason

give ledger the oscar now

I just saw it today. I thought it was fun, but not quite up to expectations. With the reviews and talk about it, I expected it to be a bit better. I am not sure which one I like better, this one or the last one.

Ledger was very good.

I think I might go with 7.5 or 8 out of 10. Can decide which it is.

I liked TDK alot. I didnt think it was much better than the first one, but it didnt dissapoint at all which was a hard task to accomplish. Ledger was amazing, his subtle mannerisms really sold the character and I hope he gets some recognition for the role. Also really liked Aaron Eckhart as Dent/Two Face - I think he is one of the most underrated actors in hollywood. overall 8.6/10

Maybe the extortionist was more important than I thought.

Some are saying that a man who tried to blackmail Batman, named Mister Reese (Mysteries) will turn into The Riddler.

There is one point where Lucious Fox and Batman are discussing the new Bat-suit. Batman makes a comment about the strength of the suit, saying it could protect him from "cats"--a possible reference to Catwoman.

Prolly greatest villian performance I have seen in a comic flick! Never thought he would do as well as Jack as Joker - he blew Jack away! Too bad Heath picked shitty flicks to star in though as he was a hell of a focking actor. No way they could have had a better person play that role an yes if he doesn't win an oscar it is a shame.

What the heck was with Gylenhaal's face? I thought she was pretty cute in Donnie Darko and Stranger Than Fiction, but she literally looked like a dog in this movie. I'm guessing the dark lighting didn't help her out, but it also appears as though she is aging at an alarming rate.

Good movie though. I agree that Ledger is deserving of best supporting actor.

What is this best "supporting " Actor thing/ he should win best Actor period! It was a major role not a supporting role. Fock if A, Hopkins can win best actor for SOTL being in the movie for about 20-30 min of actual screen time and Jack can be nominated for best actor for AFGM being in the movie even less Ledger should be as well.

Maggie was never cute or attractive before this role and nothing changed. Also, I didn't even think her acting ability did anything to help her pull off that role. While Holmes was terrible in the last one, at least you could see how Bruce Wayne would want to bang her.

I don't agree with it being higher than some others, but I'm not opposed to giving it a 9.6. It's definitely in my top 20 (probably around 15 or so).

I have to see a movie a couple of times before i can say where it ranks on my personal list. I would say top 15 sounds good though. Like i said, not on the same level as The Godfathers, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas are far are crime dramas go, but, it is very close, it actually could be on the same level.

For the first time...i saw a movie twice at the theater...within a week of when i first saw it   It is better the second time you watch it, i highly recommend seeing it multiple times. I don't see how someone could not like this movie. Like, The Godfather, highly reguarded as the best movie of all time, there are people who don't like it and i guess i can see why. However, there is no way anyone with any kind of taste in movies would not like it.

I will go ahead and say, Heath Ledger's performance is one of the best of all-time...ever....in any role. Like, this time i noticed all the little things he did that were so brilliant of acting that really added to the Joker's character, too many to name. I was saying it really, really sucks he is dead, because no one can come close to playing the Joker that well, all Batman movies from here on out will suck, i will call it. His performance made a good movie an amazing movie.

It's NOTHING like the Godfather, i was just saying the Godfather is widely considered the best crime drama ever and probably the best movie ever. What i was saying in my previous post is there are still a few select people, such as yourself, who didn't care for the Godfather, and i guess i can see why. However, i don't see any reason why anyone would not like this movie, at least any hetero-sexual guy. It is non-stop action, with a very good, deep plot and storyline.

I'm hoping to see it for the 2nd time this weekend. If so, it will be only the 2nd movie I've ever seen twice in the theater. Pulp Fiction was the first.

I've read a couple reviews lately that say they think it will get nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. :dunno: But maybe.

Was I the only one who actually liked the Joker more than Batman or any of the other characters? He's a total psycho, but the charisma and flair was insane.

The way Batman talked was annoying.

What was the point of TwoFace? Like, he didn't really DO anything, did he? I know it was to show what the Joker did, but like...the villian himself wasn't really relevant.

The complete flip of the semi was one of the coolest thing I've seen, just based on originality alone. Hadn't seen that before and thought it was pretty cool.

Didn't really think it was too long, but I wasn't 100% happy with the ending. After seeing all of that movie, you just expect a bit more at the end. By the way, this movie had like 4-5 "main scenes" that you're used to seeing as the grand finale in the other movies that were just part of the action this time around. Really builds you up and keeps you in the movie. Best superhero movie ever, and I don't think it's close.

Overall, 8.5/10.

Agreed, the best character was the Joker, far and away. Yeah, i still don't get why he speaks in such a deep voice for Batman, it is a bit irritating at times though. I though HArvey Dent was a great character, two face, other than looking sweet, didn't have too much relevence to the movie. The point of two face was to prove the Joker's point, that everyone is corruptable and can turn evil, Harvey Dent was the hero of Gotham. That was also the point of the whole movie, either you die a hero or live long enough to become the villain. The ending was very good, it that is said how Batman was not a hero, but a guardian to the city, so he was not corruptable. Also how Harvey was the hero the city needed, and Batman was the hero the city deserved. Like i said, the plot was actually very deep, with really no holes.

Keeps on blowing away records....

Fastest to 300 million :music_guitarred: 314 million...in less than 2 weeks  It's already made as much as Iron man, which was the best selling movie before this. It is on pace to abolish that borefest Titantic. Like i said before it came out, i would LOVE to see this movie bump that from the top, and actually have an entertaining, high quality movie on top of the all-time box office sales. Only less than 300 million to go, halfway there in 10 days.
