So about 30 minutes later I get up to go piss and the Davis' and their baby arrived while I was pissing. Before I was through, I heard all this noise and when I came out a big fight was going on.

It turned out Chris saw the Davis' mongoloid kid and remarked that that kid must be awfully damned smart to have a head THAT big.

 

Chris had a bloody nose and Charles Davis was cussing up a storm.

 

I grabbed the girl I was with and split with Chris and his woman before any explaining could take place.

 

A few weeks later Chris was told the whole story and he's been mad at me every since and that's been nearly 20 years.

Down syndrome chances increase in older women having children. my wife was 36 and they did the testing around week 14. It was negative so we had the baby but we would have had him aborted if he had downs. Sorry, but its tough enough raising a healthy child in today's world.

Yeah, the amnio tells you a lot of stuff besides down syndrome but there are also things it can't detect. She did not have an AFP. The Doctor told her the risks of Amnio and we did it. We went to a very good hosital in a major metropolitan City (Chicago) that does these procedures constantly. Our Doctor told us the risks were extremely small at a hospital like this that does so many. You may be taking your chances at a smaller rural hospital. My wife also talked to a lot of people about it and other women she knew told her that they had amnios with their later children.

 

I also have to admit that it was our intent to abort the child if he/she had downs but it would have been very difficult to do after seeing him in the ultrasound. I am thankful its a decision we never had to make.
