This pirate business

Recommended Posts

You guys can find the stories yourselves. Either you know about it or you don't. Focking Somali pirates are siezing ships all over the place - some loaded with tanks & weapons, others with oil. - Then they simply demand a ransom. They kidnap the crew, sieze the ship and sit around waiting for a ransom.

Look, I know the ocean's a big place, but really, are you kidding me? PIRATES? The international community can't wipe out nergos in speedboats? What the fock are the Special Forces for if they can't even handle this kind of situation? Why the fock aren't the affected countries simply putting their armed forces ON the ships? Do you know how hard it is to get onto a GD tanker from a speedboat?

These mother fockers (among many others) have siezed the ship with tanks and weps on it for WEEKS. Now they've siezed an oil tanker headed for the U.S. I'm pretty sure Iraq's insurgents don't have a Navy. Do you think we could maybe send the seals to get the damn boat back? Or are they just focking hype?

Pirates have been around since the beginning of time, and they will be here until we're all just boxes of dust.

There are groups with special ops type guys that will trail a boat, and they're pretty expensive.

I think the real issue about using our navy is the whole international incident thing.. Some countries would get pretty upset if we are using our guys to shoot their civilians.

I believe Somalia's given everyone the green light in that regard.

I'm not just talking about our guys either. Mother of Cheese, there's got to be like 50 navies in this world. Seems like with stuff this big, countries could pool their resources and blow these fothermockers outta the water.

Lets just convince Denmark that Vikings are cool again. One side effect is that our raping and pillaging would go up, but nobody fvcks with a bada$$ beard and two handed axe.

It is a Saudi ship isn't it? They have a bunch of money. Can't they hire some mercenaries or soemthing if they cannot take care of it on their own?

That's kind of my point. People basically just negotiate a ransom instead of killing these focksticks. WTF? I mean, it can't be THAT hard. The boat's in the water. You pay the ransom, DeWayne takes his posse off the boat, onto their get away boat. BOOM!! Their boat gets a torpedo up the tailpipe. WTF??

Here's what I don't understand about this. They take the ships back to port in Somalia, right? These ports are apprently fully under the control of pirates, right? So why not just drop a bunker-buster on these focking ports?

Then it's all like, "Great, you stole a ship. Where you gonna' go with it?"

Here's a list of the bigges ships still in the Pirate's hands:

Crew: 14 Turks

3. MV Stolt Strength

Hijacked November 10

4. CEC Future

I don't get any of this. All these ships have transponders on them so everyone knows exactly where they are........ I don't know why mercenaries couldn't be hired to simply take them back and just throw the pirates to the sharks.

Everyone know Muslims can't swim even if shark religion forbids them from eating Muslims.

Moreover, there were no distress calls when the ships were taken?

I read a really interesting about modern-day pirates in a magazine a few years back (I want to say it was Atlantic Monthly, but it might have been Harper's). Anyway, pirates are a problem all over the world--not just in Somalia. There are open ocean pirates who will actually hijack tankers, re-paint the boat at sea, change its identifier, and change the flag it flies under. Then they pull into some port, off-load the cargo, sell it on the black market, and take off before anybody even knows what is happening.

The problem with pirates is that nobody really has the jurisdiction to do anything about them. If they are in the waters of another country, then you obviously cannot just send your military after them without creating a major international incident. When they are out on the open waters, nobody technically has the jurisdiction to do anything about it, though I suspect there would be much less protest if anything was done. But who is going to pay for military ops to get rid of pirates? And how are you going to find them?

Wiki has pictures of the stuff happening. Some of these dudes fired on US Navy ships  .

It appears they just throw grappling hooks onto the deck and just climb up. Maybe these ships should go old school and start pouring boiling oil on the pirates. That'd be cool. :music_guitarred:

Armed suspected pirates in the Indian Ocean near Somalia. After the picture was taken, the vessel’s crew members opened fire on the U.S. Navy ships and the ship's crew members returned fire. One suspected pirate was killed and 12 were taken into custody.

Fock with the bull!

A whole crew only killed one? Well, I guess all the buttsecks messes up your aim.

Ah, the US Navy, where they leave port with 100 sailors, come back with 50 couples.

But who is going to pay for military ops to get rid of pirates? And how are you going to find them?

Seems like this would be a situation prime for international cooperation. I could see solving the problem one of four ways...

1) Create an international anti-piracy force under the Aegis of the United Nations, which has a small force of fast attack boats, helicopters, and commando units specializing in ship to ship combat. Let them, by UN resolution, have jurisdiction to hunt pirates in any national waters, and the high seas.

2) Simply negotiate and pass a global Anti-Piracy treaty, by which all signatory nations allow any signatory nation's navy to pursue and attack pirates in their home waters.

3) Start offering large bounties on their heads. There being no honor among theives, they would start turning each other in, and fighting amongst themselves.

4) The US navy should just start blowing the pirate ships out of the water unilaterally, preferably in international waters, but fock, if we blow up a ship in Somali waters, WTF are they gonna do about it? Dropping a few aid boxes of food over their sh!thole country should keep them quiet.

Probably some combination of all four strategies is the way to go.

Put one of these
on the boats. "Goalkeeper; when you absolutely positively gotta kill every motherfucker on the boat, accept no substitutes."

Not bad. But

weapons system would kick the crap outta them pirates. :dunno:

For those at work, this is a "Thunder in Paradise" reference. -_-

1) Create an international anti-piracy force under the Aegis of the United Nations,

The UN??? What are they going to do?

Take payoffs from the pirates and blame the U.S. for creating the conditions that forced these people into piracy.

Seriously I think the solution is viewed as being more expensive than the problem. Advance weapons and elite forces cost a lot of money. I do not see everyone throwing the kind of money it would take to solve the problem. I am sure these guys have advanced radar and can scatter long before any military ship can show up.

Probably, but can they scatter long before a cruise missle fired from hundreds of miles away, or an anti ship missle fired from a plane gets there? I doubt it.
