I can't speak for anybody else, but I wasn't really bashing the Steelers. There is no way I can argue the Pittsburgh Steelers dont have the more successful franchise.

I have zero issue in Lynch coming aboard. The move makes a ton of sense for both teams.

 

Ah, but here is the sticky point. What is the price? For the same reason we could not acquire B Marshall, you cannot give up the 2nd rounder next year, because you don't have a third. So...will Buffalo settle for a 4th or 5th, or a pick the following year? If so, do it.

 

For argument sake, if Seattle foolishly deals the 2nd next year and overpays, do you prefer

Golden Doughnut Tate and Marshawn Lynch OR Brandon Marshall.

I am actually hoping the Hawks can some how deal Leroy Hill straight up. One trouble maker for the other. Or what about JJ straight up? If that isn't possible and it is indeed draft picks, I keep seeng that a 5th rounder is what the going price will ultimately be. If that is true, done deal! A second rounder? No way in hell.

Nothing's wrong with Forsett, but he is far from an every down back. He's fast but small and needs the open field. What Seattle needs to compliment him is a big bruiser to plow it into the end zone and 3rd and one kind of situations. Lendale White fit the bill; his attitude got in the way of what would have been a good situation for him, evidently.

Marshawn Lynch also fits the need, generally. The question is: how much do the Bills want for him?

I agree. However, isn't there a good chance he'll get cut eventually (I have no idea what his salary is or the cap ramifications of cutting him are)? Hopefully the front office is as cautious with Lynch as they were with Marshall.

Minicamp observations

Okay, got the print story filed. Earlier posts covered most of the newsy stuff. Now ... some of what jumped out from the sidelines.

 

With Jones and Forsett absent (romance), Quinton Ganther kept getting more looks. The guy just really seems to make a lot of plays. He runs low and looks to have pretty good acceleration for a guy 5-9, 220. He could be a darkhorse back there.

 

Of the injured guys returning, I was most struck by how good Leon Washington seemed to be moving around. He spent early time taking handoffs and just getting his feet under him, but then was going through the steps for pitch plays, which required him to plant and cut up-field. He was doing it at what looked like pretty close to full speed. It seems that would be a real test for a guy coming off multiple leg fractures. Carroll said they'd be careful with him the first couple weeks of training camp, but then added that he thought all those guys -- Housh, Branch, Washington, Thurmond -- would be ready to at least be eased back into action when camp started.

 

Carroll's biggest surprise from the off-season has been Red Bryant, who was starting at DE opposite Chris Cleamons. He said that he thought Bryant's size and quickness gave him some special qualities. Don't scoff. Those of us who watched him in the past might wonder if this is over-estimating his potential. But he HAS looked different. He looks quicker and far more confident. It might be that it all just clicked in for him. But here's a fact: The guy is very big, very strong and pretty ornery, too.

 

Kelly Jennings was with the ones on defense, with Josh Wilson coming on in the nickel. The linebackers were Curry, Hawthorne and Herring, with Hill going with the twos.

 

Of our earlier discussion of Chris Spencer ... Carroll called him one of the stars of the off-season. I recall Jim Mora saying that last year. Will be interesting. Seemed like Okung made a couple rookie flinches when Hasselbeck went into his tricky cadence designed to draw the defensive offsides.

 

At quarterback, Whitehurst had a pretty nice series in a two-minute session, but he threw two picks in the Red Zone, too. For my money, and I think I've seen every OTA session that has been open to us, I think JP Losman is far closer to being a game-ready productive quarterback than Whitehurst. Losman really has a big-time arm on him, and an awful lot of experience.

 

I think one of the surprise guys on defense could be Kevin Vickerson, the guy they picked up from Tennessee. He is huge and he plays with a great deal of force. There's a "pop" in his punch.

 

Got no real answer to where Babineaux was other than some vague suggestions that it wasn't related to the signing of Kevin Ellison and it wasn't something illegal ... at least the best I could translate. Will follow tomorrow.

Im loving Housh and Tate this year. Housh can easily return to his glory days...he had what 79 catches last year while the offense was terrible? Pete Carroll knows Housh is his best weapon and will get him the ball. Tate can be a big playmaker and will benefit from the attention Housh draws.

 

BTW Lynch would be a perfect fit.

Still a bit before my time. I have no idea why they mentioned the 2007 squad. The choke-job they pulled at Lambeau caused me to smash my cell phone against the wall (I was having anger issues back then). The team had nothing resembling a running game, and Mack Strong was forced to retire. They also went into Pittsburgh and were thoroughly embarrassed.

He is a great hire and one of the greatest assistant coaches ever in the NFL. I will be taking some flyers on SEA rbs. I used to always do this with the Denver depth chart and struck fantasy gold with Mike Anderson and many others.

A case could be made that he is better at his job than any other coach in the league...Wish my Steelers had him.

I was very apprehensive when Carroll was hired, but kudos to him for landing Gibbs on his staff. There is some good young talent on the line. We could be running it down people's throats as early as the end of 2010.
