SaintsInDome2006 441 Posted January 8, 2014 Let's see. A few week ago, the Seattle Seahawks on a Monday Night game pulled down the Saint's pants and the nation laughed and laughed at their New Orleans itty bitty pink parts. Fast forward to this rematch, and all of the sudden the Saints are walking around with a swagger after beating the team to emerge out of the worst division in the NFL. You don't get over a demolition like that with lip service. Deep down, way down nestled inside the marrow of their bones, the Saints know exactly what is going to happen. They can deny it all they want. They can also create false controversy to try to get fired up. Sean Payton is whining that the Seahawks ran up the score in the previous game even though the Seahawks scored 7 points in the 2nd half, none in the 4th quarter. You know, Payton is a good coach, but when you resort to clown tactics like a Harbaugh would, then you deserve the beatdown that is coming. I don't want to just win. I want to run up the score. Really stick it in. Â Wait, when did he say the Hawks ran up the score?
Groundhog 24 Posted January 8, 2014 Back to the game for a sec fellas.  How worried should Hawks fans be about the recent ascendance of Mark Ingram? For the longest time he was looking like the prequel to Trent Richardson, but all of a sudden he's got a little more giddyup in his spurs. Check out numbers from his three most recent games:  Wildcard game @ Eagles: 18 carries, 97 yards, 1 TD Week 17 game vs. Bucs: 3 carries, 20 yards Week 16 game @ Panthers: 13 carries, 83 yards  So he's averaging 5,9 yds per carry over three games. Against some pretty decent defenses.  Now keep in mind the Hawks' run D is no slouch recently either. We shut down Zac Stacy (15 carries, 15 yards) in wk17 and he carved us up earlier in the year. We shut down Andre Brown of the Giants. Andre Ellington did a decent job with the Cards in wk16, 15 carries for 64 yards, but that includes one long gainer of 26 yards. Take out that one carry, Ellington generated 3.1 yds per carry on the other 14 carries.  We shut down Brees in the first meeting. I have to think that the Saints are going to try a ground-and-pound approach behind Ingram and Khiry Robinson, along with a few seam routes for Jimmy Graham given the absence of KJ Wright. Red Bryant is going to have to have a monster game to help defeat the ground attack. I think we're up to it but I don't think this game will be nearly as one-sided as the first one was. SEA jumped on the Saints early last time, if the Saints can keep it close they will be able to run the ball. I don't think they need to run it terrifically, just well enough. If they can do what the Cards did, 40+ rushes even at 3 or so yards a pop, that will work.  Ingram has been much better since he got back from injury. But he is still not a dominant top-5 back.  If the Saints stick to the run, succeed or fail, doesn't matter, and hold Wilson and Lynch both in check, then they can win this game. I'm not worried about Ingram... He's not very good, and he's the type of RB we can stop. It's the young bruising back with quickness that can give us problems or physical with a great line (Gore) Also, Ingram was the primary runner against us last time. At the time "I think" he was on a role and the primary guy over P. Thomas. He had the most carries against us. Sure, we need to stop him. But, I don't think that is where our problem would be overall..  Sproles on the screen would be more dangerous and need to focus on that. We did outstanding last time. Need to do that again. Sproles doesn't seem the same so that bodes well.  Graham is the big key!!!  Also we need to make sure Meachem OR Stills doesn't get deep on us.  Colston will be shut down easily. He's the type of Wide we excell against. Slower/big WR. So this helps overall vs Brees.  We matchup well against them. Need to pound them, no turnovers, and open the playbook if we are struggeling. Use the TE and Screen if Wilson is getting preasured. And where the heck is the Run/Pass option play with Wilson. That better be used more too. P. Harvin - Wildcard. Hawkfin 32 Posted January 8, 2014 It's not bad calls that the Seahawks benefit from. It's the refs letting their big corners maul and hold receivers. And they'll let them here, too. whaaa - You sound like the 49ers coach who bags for calls. (Hoping for bailouts) We've had plenty of calls for holding wides and we lead the league in penalties called against us. Were not getting away with anything. Â They are getting mauled, because they can't get off the line with our press coverage. Were allowed to play physical up to 5 yards, which is usually even pushed out to 7 yards or so by the league. Â Don't go crying because we are a physical Def. Every team holds. Every corner holds, pushes and shoves. And most every wide pushes and shoves off too. (S.F. holds like hell on the Oline) Â I agree - Let the players play like in the GB/SF game. That's the way a game should be called! Â That's garbage to try and make a case that we're getting away with something. If the wide is not a pu$$y, then he can seperate or force the foul call. If not, then that's just good tight coverage. Â Maybe it looks like holding to you cause Sherman is all up in there face and they can never seperate from him. Â Either way - You got one thing right - Don't expect the foul call. And that's the way it should be, especially in the playoff's. And I agree 100% with the ref's if that's how they call it. If not, well, then I hope we are smart enough to adapt and play less physical. But, that better go both ways then.
