I just take this game too seriously. I was literally happy for two plays. The fourth down TD pass to Kearse and the Sherman deflection.

 

I couldnt even enjoy the victory formation because the 49ers took the time outs and they where right next to the end zone. All I could think was don't screw up the snap.

 

I am going to be a wreck for the superbowl.

 

Holly hell, did the 49ers make our offensive line look bad, just when I start to trust them they get destroyed up and down the line. We actually had to bring in a 6th offensive lineman for a significant portion of the second half.

I read today that Cliff Avril wants a contract extension, He's got 1 year left as you all know. Michael Bennett is a FA. And of course we still have Clemmons also.

 

Looking at the defense. Earl Thomas and Sherman are going to need extensions. Now we all know they will get them, and neither guy will go anywhere. But how do you think this will affect our DE's? We can't pay all 3 of them.

I was kind of thinking of Clemmons as a cap casualty myself.

I'm not so sure we could keep both Bennett (resign) and Avrill (extend). Both guys signed real friendly deal last year for their worth. A hometown discount is the only way I could see both staying for several years.

I think the team has to cut Sidney Rice and Chris Clemmons. Hate to see Clemmons go since he has been one of the most underrated players on the team for years but we have the obvious replacement in Avril on hand.

 

We will probably lose Bennet in Free Agency along with Tate, would love to see Bennet return though. I would like them to tender Baldwin the restricted free agent offer at 2.8 million so we would get a first round pick if someone tried to sign him. With a full season (?) of Harvin at WR, Baldwin would be a good compliment and much cheaper than Tate which gives us time to develop Kearse or another rookie.

 

I would offer a favorable team extension to Sherman something like 3 years, 30million and if he turns it down make him play out the season or offer him up as trade bait. I would imagine we could get more than the Jets got for Revis last year, maybe a mid round 1st and a 3rd rounder? The top cornerbacks make $15-20million a year and thats just too much money used on our secondary considering how good the other no name corner backs have played. Assuming $15million Sherman/$6million Chancellor/$7?millionThomas, thats roughly 22% of the cap in our secondary. I would argue that Thomas is the key secondary component we can't let get away, his obscene range really drives our defensive scheme in the secondary.

 

It will never happen the fans up here have an irrational love of Sherman, one of my buddies actually named his kid Sherman in his honor...sigh.

 

We should probably just do the Jerry Jones thing and backload the contracts to keep our Superbowl window open as long as possible and hope they can nail a few more drafts and the cap starts to increase faster in the next couple years. Its a great problem to have .
