Bowe Bergdahl, traitor or patsy?

Recommended Posts

Nope. He is on record.

I figure a high ranking member of the Intel Committee would be good enough. Why are you so interested in a name?

I doubt I have ever heard of him anyway. I just hope you're not dumb enough to fall for the National Enquirer/TMZ style of 'scoops' by anonymous sources. Seems you may be.

I doubt it as well. Not sure if he is on MSNBC on a daily basis. :music_guitarred:

I'm not a political loser like you. I don't even know what channel MSNBC is on my cable system. Ooops, Google Pilot swung and missed again.

If Obama was smart, which he isn't he'd drone stike the guys he released

Maybe he didn't hear about their release until he saw it on the news. :dunno:

I just want to clear the air. The more I hear about Bergdahl, the less I like him, the more convinced I am that I was wrong to give him the benefit of the doubt earlier with my other posts.

"He was looking for his keys or took a wrong turn looking for ths sh*tter." No. No.

He did walk off on purpose. Maybe he had some mental problem. If he did, it's probably about a thousand times worse now.

The Curious Case of Bob Bergdahl's Apparent Tweet to the Taliban

since deleted...

@ABalkhi I am still working to free all Guantanamo prisoners. God will repay for the death of every Afghan child, ameen.

28 May 2014

:wall:

Hate to judge the guy since I couldn't imagine what it's like to walk a mile in his shoes...

... but holy hell. Curious case indeed.

Well I understand growing a beard and learning Pashtu and Urdu to communicate with his son's captors. I completely understand approaching them with symbolic honor for their culture. But what he said on the White House lawn, this, and who knows what else, is potentially quite dangerous. Either it's because of all the distress he's been through motivating him to kowtow, or he legitimately sympathizes with the Taliban. He needs to watch some Inside Combat Rescue and witness American soldiers risking their lives to get Afghanis - hurt at the hands of the Taliban, to hospitals and the even more dangerous lengths gone to when it's kids lives at stake.

Remember the guy during the bengazi testimony who said "its like the Taliban is inside the building"

Looks he meant the white house

Not at all.

The guy is on record, and a leader on the Intelligence Committee. I think he may have more insight than an MSMBC drone like you.

http://www.mediaite.com/tv/krauthammer-obama-didnt-have-to-go-to-congress-on-bergdahl/

Krauthammer on a role. Is he right? He said Obama didn't need congressional approval for swap.

Strange. I keep seeing stuff about how even Dianne Feinstein was against this and that 2 years ago, this was brought up to the high ranking folks in all branches of government and they ALL told Obama "Hell no". They were so worried Obama would do it anyway, they passed the law requiring him to get congressional approval to make sure he would not do this deal it was so horrible.

Poor Bowe now has to readjust to American living in the care of his father ... I worry that might have been what caused the situation in the first place.

Am I bad? Maybe I should shut up.

This deal negotiated by the Obama Administration was more about releasing the 5 detainees than the release of an American detainee.

Frustrated senators fumed that they have more questions than answers after listening to a detailed administration briefing on the trade of five Taliban leaders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, with one going so far as to threaten impeachment if President Obama uses this as an opening to shutter Guantanamo.

"If [President Obama] just tried to empty that jail, people would be calling for his impeachment," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said.

WASHINGTON — The family of a pregnant American woman who went missing in Afghanistan in late 2012 with her Canadian husband received two videos last year in which the couple asked the U.S. government to help free them and their child from Taliban captors, The Associated Press has learned.

It appears that Obama intended to clear out Gitmo piecemeal with these hostages. Now, obviously he can't. 5 terrorists should have been worth Bergdahl and the several civilian hostages. What a CF.

This has nothing to do with the president, if you're a civilian and you decide to travel to Afghanistan, you're on your own. It isn't like he was there before 9/11 and just got caught in the middle of a bad situation, you knew what was going on.

Obama seems to be on an island with this debacle. Is there anyone, besides Harry Reid, that has supported this CF?

The more I read about this story the more baffled I become. I just hope there are things we don't currently know about that will eventually cause this story to make sense.

Right now, this thing is getting ugly.

Wow, sad day when getting a captured soldier back home is a partisan issue

I'm really quite shocked and dismayed at the shortsightedness on display in this thread. Just when you think things couldn't get any worse...

Look, the deal as an American soldier is that you put your life on the line for the country, maybe you leave your wife without a husband, your kids without a father, your parents without a child. And in exchange for that possible sacrifice one of our promises is that if you are captured America WILL come for you.

The deal isn't that we'll come from you unless some fat, partisan whiner in Congress with an axe to grind against the president (talking about Mike Rogers there) raises enough of a stink that, oh what the hell, we'll just leave you in Taliban captivity because it wouldn't be politically expedient to come save your ass.

Who the hell would want to fight in that kind of army? I sure as hell wouldn't.

You guys have no focking clue what happened so you really should just shut it.

A focking traitor --come on!! You think Obama and the military are really going to move mountains to secure the return of an outright traitor? No focking way. Only way that makes sense is if you're one of those focking nutballs who think Obama is a secret Muslim who wants al Qaeda to win

Maybe the dude had a mental break or something. War is a high stress scenario and some people just can't handle it. Doesn't mean that his country shouldn't try their damnedest to rescue him anyway.

Obama seems to be on an island with this debacle. Is there anyone, besides Harry Reid, that has supported this CF?

Im shocked that mainly republican senators are pissed. But you never play the R vs. D game right phurfur?

Also, its not shocking they will always get their panties in a twist if they don't get to be all involved.

In something like this...a 30 day notification, while signed in, was likely dumb cause those focks can't keep their traps shut for 30 minutes, much less 30 days.

Obama should have vetoed it then. Instead, he chose to break the law.

No doubt its not looking good. There were questions around the guy to start with and its always going to be rough when freeing those types of people.

The hope would be that those who really know...have a means of keeping tabs on these guys in Qatar.

But I think some is over sensationalized...like phurfur's article calling them a jiahdists dream team.

How many times over the last x amount of years have we heard we caught and/or killed the #2 guy in AQ or the Taliban. Then a new "mastermind" pops up.

The nature of such terrorist organizations is that they have a lot of guys like the ones released.

I defend the swap. I don't defend Obama bypassing the law in order to do it though. Could they have exchanged 5 different guys....maybe. Could they have given money for Bergdahl....probably. We as a country, do everything in our power to bring our guys home. At all costs. If Bergdahl is found out to be a deserter, then he should stand trial, but to leave him behind because of maybes and possibilities, or opinions, is not what we do. The guy is a active member of the military. Even if awol he's still an active duty military personnel.

Well said.

And if he is a deserter...the right will do everything they can to tear him apart.

President Obama, facing rising bipartisan criticism over his handling of the Taliban-for-Bergdahl prisoner swap, dug in his heels Thursday and declared he would make "absolutely no apologies" for bringing an American soldier home.

Wow, from the commander in chief, this guy needs to go back to community organizing.

I do think it is humorous how all you non military people pretend to be experts on how the military operates.

what are your feelings if it is found out the guy not only seeked out the enemy, but was aiding and abetting them as well ?

I would expect him to face a court martial for being a traitor and deserter. Which I would hope he got the death penalty for.
