jerryskids 6,799 Posted March 8, 2014 A Kyrene Centennial Middle School teacher was put on administrative leave and arrested this week after investigators said they discovered hundreds of text messages in which the instructor was offering sexual acts to and soliciting them from a former student, according to a Phoenix police spokesman. Police arrested 61-year-old James Giannopoulos and booked him in a Maricopa County jail on Thursday on suspicion of luring a minor for sexual exploitation, according to Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department. Giannopoulos had exchanged hundreds of messages with a 15-year-old female former student, many of which included solicitations or offers of sexual acts, Thompson said. Another teacher had noticed Giannopoulos was inappropriately close to a student and contacted the on-campus school resource officer and principal on Feb. 28, said Nancy Dudenhoefer, community-relations assistant director with the Kyrene School District. Giannopoulos was put on administrative leave Monday, she said. The Family Investigations Bureau was contacted Tuesday and began its investigation. The teacher told officers when he was arrested on Thursday that he knew it was wrong but that he could not control himself, Thompson said. He has been with the district since 1987, Dudenhoefer said. “We are very disturbed by someone put in a position of authority using that in an inappropriate way,” she said. Kyrene Superintendent David Schauer sent out a letter to the Kyrene community to notify them of the arrest. In the letter, Schauer said Giannopoulos had a valid fingerprint clearance card and a valid teacher certificate. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to call the Family Investigations Bureau at 602-534-3200 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS in English and 480-TESTIGO in Spanish. http://www.azcentral.com/community/ahwatukee/articles/20140307kyrene-teacher-accused-soliciting-sexual-acts-minor-abrk.html Link has a video which autostarts, which I hate if I'm at work so be warned. My 7th grade daughter knows the girl; she is an 8th grader who apparently referred to him as "Grandpa." So she is 13, not 15 like the article says. News agencies have been reporting "under 15" because I think that becomes a worse crime. That daughter didn't have him as a teacher but my older daughter (now 10th grade) did. Needless to say we had a talk with her last night to make sure everything was OK. Kudos to the teacher who thought he/she saw him acting inappropriately and had the guts to act on it. This is the second time in a year we've had to deal with this focked up shiot; here is another loser, this one from our HS. Same older daughter had him for a dance teacher, but luckily (for us) he likes boys. He was in his early 20s when he started "dating" a 16 yr old student, so this one isn't as creepy. Which means it is slightly better tasting shiot sandwich. http://www.kpho.com/story/22272235/pd-school-dance-instructor-accused-of-sex-with-student I want to kick these fockheads in the nuts, not just for what they did to these kids (and possibly others) but for making me paranoid about sending my kids to school. Geezil 24 Posted March 8, 2014 It's a shame every child has a cell phone these days and that so many parents obviously have no clue who they are texting. It is also extremely sad that she didn't feel compelled to tell her parents about this. Hundreds of text messages leads me to believe it had been happening for some time. jerryskids 6,799 Posted March 8, 2014 61 years old? A little old, and employed, but I gotta ask. Did he teach graphic design? Well played. Actually he was a science teacher. I only spoke to him a few times and he was maybe a little quirky and certainly energetic, but I can't say that I would have seen that coming.
MedStudent 56 Posted March 8, 2014 Be thankful the school is vigilante and didn't try to handle it internally. They probably will get backlash from some parents for ever hiring this creep but they put the students first over their reputation like they should. A certain institution of higher learning in Central PA let a creep like this take showers with boys for years.
Frozenbeernuts 2,264 Posted March 8, 2014 A guy i was friends with in HS moved to St. Louis to work in the sports radio business. He was doing pretty well for himself and moving up from what i understood. Well i hadnt heard about him in a few years when another buddy told me to check out a story on him. This dude met some 13 yr old chick, i dont remember how, and took her out to a movie. He was 25 at the time. After the movie he went back to her parents house who werent home, and didled her along with another 13 year old that was at the house. The story is odd and doesnt make a ton of sense, but the end result is 25 years in pound me in the ass prison. I guarantee he has been raped.

That being said, the district is making a big deal of telling everyone that he passed his background check last year (they do one every 6 years). I presume they are doing that to let the public know that they are doing what they are supposed to do, but all that tells me is that he hasn't been caught before. This all went down really quickly, so I presume that the girl still had the texts on her phone. If so he is a pretty poor molestor; I would think those low lifes train their victims to erase the evidence. I'm hoping that this is the only time it happened, and that it was limited to sexting and not actual molestation. As near as I can tell he has already confessed to the sexting part. Voltaire 5,316 Posted March 9, 2014 I'll be honest, I'm proud of myself -and a little surprised- how easy it's been for me to shut off any sexual urges I have towards the students. Not a problem. Many underage girls are gorgeous and going into this profession, I didn't know at the time I had it in me. I worried this guy could be me. Now, I don't teach middle or high school students anymore, but even if I did, I already passed the test dozens of times over. I've taught plenty of beautiful girls and it's not that I'm not attracted to them - I am- it's just that I'm able to shut that whole thing down, not flirt with them, not let them know. Frankly, it's easy with students than adults. After getting married, I didn't know I'd have it in me to not cheat on my wife. I can't count how many times I've come across beautiful women and kept my mouth shut: hot and/or rich single moms, uber-fine teaching assistants, etc. I can. I credit my success to all the pron I view. When the internet is down, I go for days without the spank material, it's really only then when I start seeing the world around me a bit differently and my self discipline gets a true test. Best case scenario is that he only acted on this recently. Maybe social media made it easier? Maybe his mind gets wandering late at night and he fires off a text? If I ever have a kid, I'm loading every focken spy software on their phone or computer. Privacy be damned.this Shiit has to scare the crap out of parents. kilroy69 1,251 Posted March 9, 2014 I downloaded an app to my daughters phone that showed where she was and where sex offenders addresses were in relation to her. I deleted it after a day. I kept checking it and no matter where she went in any town or part of town there was too many nearby. It drove me nuts. I then sat her down and reminded her to be on the lookout for strange people. not to take candy, not to get into strangers cars and if anyone tries to touch her scream fire till an adult helps. Then let me him up. Its sick this is what we have to do with an 11 year old today.

With how available information is it probably just seems more prevalent. Child abductions and molestation has been around for a while. Its good that parents seem like they are putting more emphasis on the dangers of predators.

Child abductions and molestation has been around for a while. Its good that parents seem like they are putting more emphasis on the dangers of predators. My parents in the 80's let us run wild all day. I remember after there was an armed assault on a nearby golf course they were trying to find the assailant and my mother told me when I went out to play not to look behind bushes... Freaking mother had to tweak me out that behind any random bush would be a gun wielding criminal.

Its just when he makes it seem like the danger didnt exist when he was younger is a bit misleading.
