IGotWorms 4,058 Posted December 9, 2014 (CNN) - Before the Brooklyn Nets and Cleveland Cavaliers faced off on the basketball court Monday night, several players were already scoring points with protesters outside the arena. As they warmed up for the game, Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James and Kyrie Irving were among the players wearing T-shirts that said "I can't breathe" -- Eric Garner's last words, which have become a rallying cry for protesters after last week's grand jury decision not to indict an officer in his death. Outside the Barclays Center, a large crowd of demonstrators swarmed the streets, chanting "hands up, don't shoot" and "black lives matter." The crowd erupted in cheers after an organizer told them about the players' T-shirts. On the one hand we know that KSB has always loved throating Lebron James' hog. But on the other hand we know James' message won't sit well with KSB's angry reactionary tendencies. What'll it be our sweater-vested friend?

But on the other hand we know James' message won't sit well with KSB's angry reactionary tendencies. What'll it be our sweater-vested friend? I have angry reactionary tendecies? My reaction? Meh. 1. I would have been dissapointed in the The King, if he was doing the whole 'hands up dont shoo't' stuff, cause yeah, thats a fallacy. Hell, give me a "I can't breathe" shirt, I'd wear it. I think Mr.Garner should be alive today. I don't think it had anything to do with race (as its being portrayed and claimed) though is my only issue with that story. 2. So meh. A part of me does wish sports figures would keep politics/religion/etc. out of it though. Most people pay money to go to those games, or turn on a ball game to get AWAY from politics/religion/etc. It's akin to starting a politcial thread over on the manage bored. Not the time or place imo.

Yeah, I saw some DB for Florida State doing it last weekend as well. He was walking off the field after scoring a TD and a swear it looked like a few coaches acted like they were ignoring him so they didn't have to deal with it. Plausible deniability, I guess. KSB2424 3,148 Posted December 9, 2014 There is a reason guys like Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods (at his height) shyed away from controversial topics and politcial ramblings. It's just not good for business and brand. I think they'd rather contribute to charities, start foundations to help people and things like that. If I was an advisor for any famous person I'd advise them to go that route. Also, these players are at work, for their team and for the NBA/NFL. I would fully support any athelete who wants to, on his time off, go march in a protest. To volunteer to help anybody in any cause they deem worthy. I don't get warm and fuzzies when people do it at their place of business. Not much different than a Bob Costas going on a political rambling at halftime of a football game. Look Bob, go on Meet the Press and say all that. Go march with the local anit-whatever march on capitol hill if you want. But leave my sports alone. You're working a ball game, and we are here to get away from all that crap.

Frank M 181 Posted December 9, 2014 My concern for the NBA is the slippery slope. Can a player wear a "abortion is murder" shirt? How about "ban ghey marriage"? The percentage of black players in the NBA is 78%. There is not going to be a slippery slope leading players to start protesting other causes because of this issue. At least not those types of issues. Protesting those types of issues will hurt the brand, and both players and the NBA know it.

Jordan said it best; "Republicans by sneakers too." The only reason Lebron is doing this is to try and improve his image. He's made so many mistakes off the court that he'll do anything to improve. I think this will further tarnish it.

Yes it was a biggie but HE WENT BACK TO CLEVELAND. Jesus you can't do better than that as far as conciliation goes. Frank M 181 Posted December 9, 2014 I thought I read that the black community isn't big on the ghey thing. Besides, those were just examples to prove the point. I guess what I'm saying is that since the majority of the NBA is black, they can probably feel pretty safe protesting these kinds of perceived racism issues without too much damage to their image. Rich white folks aren't going to stop going to NBA games because of it. It's a "black thing". Once they start saying "Abortion Kills" or "Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve", people start getting uncomfortable.
