Ted Wells Presents DeflateGate Report To NFL, Patriots; No Discipline Decided Yet

Recommended Posts

Yes. Asterisk, shamasterik. I'll take a tainted trophy and never feel bad about it. And hug it and squeeze it and make dirty love to it.

Only...I don't think the NCAA gives the trophy to the next team. They just take them away from the cheaters.

Sorry Seahawks...you still lost.

Don't stomp on my hope.

Also, it's kind of unprecedented and Roger Goodell and his staff are unpredictable, maverick dumb focks. You never know.

I'm nervous that Goodell's tight friendship with Kraft is going to play a key role in the penalty.

I think most people are at least "generally aware" that "it is more probable than not" that it had no bearing on the outcome of any game. They broke the rules and should be punished, but let's be sane.

If it had no outcome on the game, why do it? Assuming Brady did it(I think he did), he did it to gain a competitive advantage, therefore it had to have some measure of effect on the account of the game.

On Mike and Mike this morning Golick basically said it was no big deal to the players unless you were a player on one of the opposing teams. He referenced Jerry Rice using stickum on his gloves, numerous linemen who spray their jerseys with cooking spray and others who coat their arms in vasoline. No biggie in the big picture because basically everyone in some shape or form does things to get an advantage.

Why did Brady and Manning ask the league in 2006 to allow them to change the PSI of the ball to their liking?

that's the point. there is no evidence or proof. It's minor form of "cheating" anyway, like stickum or throwing a spitball in baseball. It's just a bunch of people who hate the patriots.

Again, I think on its own you may be able to rationalize it as gamesmanship.

Have no problem with people doing things hoping not to get caught.

But again...when he basically lied and withheld info from the NFL is where they will come down on him more.

I dunno. I'm gonna wait for the official ruling on it. All this "probable" stuff is very hazy. It's "probable" he did it but not clear cut evidence of it. But then with the nfl I suppose they don't need clear cut evidence. I'll just wait and see what the official ruling is

I think this is likely the reason that you had Kraft and Bellicheat stepping up and refuting so heavily early on. I am sure they did their own internal review before speaking out, and likely knew that while cheating did occur there was no actual evidence that could pin it to anyone other than maybe the two gents who manipulated the balls, do denial was easy at that point. I think they are still holding on to that. But Goodell is not going to follow the rule of law with regard to evidence, he has the latitude to use common sense, and protect the brand.

I am sure the other owners who already think that Goodell is too close to Kraft and not hard enough on the Pat's for their poor behavior will be watching to see how he handles this, he may want to give Kraft a freebie on this one, but may also fear that the other owners have had enough.

Time will tell

Tom Brady's agent blasts findings in Deflategate report

Don Yee, the agent for Tom Brady, released this report Thursday morning slamming Ted Wells' Deflategate report:

"The Wells report, with all due respect, is a significant and terrible disappointment. It’s omission of key facts and lines of inquiry suggest the investigators reached a conclusion first, and then determined so-called facts later. One item alone taints this entire report. What does it say about the league office’s protocols and ethics when it allows one team to tip it off to an issue prior to a championship game, and no league officials or game officials notified the Patriots of the same issue prior to the game? This suggests it may be more probable than not that the league cooperated with the Colts in perpetrating a sting operation. The Wells report buries this issue in a footnote on page 46 without any further elaboration. The league is a significant client of the investigators' law firm; it appears to be a rich source of billings and media exposure based on content in the law firm's website. This was not an independent investigation and the contents of the report bear that out – all one has to do is read closely and critically, as opposed to simply reading headlines. The investigators' assumptions and inferences are easily debunked or subject to multiple interpretations. Much of the report’s vulnerabilities are buried in the footnotes, which is a common legal writing tactic. It is a sad day for the league as it has abdicated the resolution of football-specific issues to people who don’t understand the context or culture of the sport. I was physically present for my client’s interview. I have verbatim notes of the interview. Tom made himself available for nearly an entire day and patiently answered every question. It was clear to me the investigators had limited understanding of professional football. For reasons unknown, the Wells report omitted nearly all of Tom’s testimony, most of which was critical because it would have provided this report with the context that it lacks. Mr. Wells promised back in January to share the results of this investigation publicly, so why not follow through and make public all of the information gathered and let the public draw its own conclusions? This report contains significant and tragic flaws, and it is common knowledge in the legal industry that reports like this generally are written for the benefit of the purchaser."

BOOM. Roasted.

I'm smelling a potential lawsuit.

The NFL truly is the keystone cops.

Like with anything else, it isn't the lie it's the coverup.

At first I thought it was fishy that he wouldn't turn in his phone records, then I thought "if my company asked for my personal phone would I give it to them?" Fock no, this isn't a criminal case.

Brady will get a suspension, he'll appeal, only to to be upheld when they play the Jaguars or something.

So, this guy is upset because the Colts informed the NFL they thought the Pats were cheating, and instead of informing the Pats the NFL caught them cheating.

They still cheated. Still got caught. Crying about how the NFL found out about it doesn't change that.

While I too enjoy seeing Brady, Belichick, Kraft, and Patriot nation squirm, hearing some of the stuff I have been this morning seems a little bit over the top. Long suspensions, astericks? ummmm no. Let's have a little bit of sanity here.

What was the fine to the Falcons for pumping noise in? That's roughly the amount of a fine the Patriots are handed. I do think if Roger Goodell thinks in the slightest that Brady was either lying or at the very least not cooperating then he'll suspend him a game, two at the most.

Other than that we can move on....

It is still fun to make fun of it though. :overhead:

I've read the report, the evidence is the balls were way under-inflated. Tests showed there were no natural cause that could have deflated those balls to that extent. End of story.

Perhaps if the patriots didn't cheat, people wouldn't hate them.

Yeah, the league told the officials, and the officials said they noted it and made sure to be precise when testing the balls. Never occurred to them, that the Pats would steal the balls and deflate them after testing.

Roasted, I don't think so.

NFL tests all balls before every game, that's SOP.

Vegas has taken the game and all Patriot action off the board for now. So there is a chance.

edjr, if you are asking me what I think should happen is one thing, but knowing Roger Goodell, if he in the slightest believes a player is not fully cooperating he will suspend him for a game. Add in the fact that Roger knows there is an underlying race factor at play here. Unless something changes, knowing what we know today, I think we'll see a 1-2 game suspension to Brady and a monetary fine (similar to what the Falcons got) to the organization.

I would be accepting of the fact that it's just gamesmanship if Brady hadn't involved so many others to do his dirty work. He put those locker room guys in an impossible position. And at least with a spitball or stickum, when a guy gets caught it's on him and him alone. It's not like the batboy was providing the spit.

I find it odd that people continue to defend this, or attempt to pretend that we should not see this for what it is.

I've got a Facebook friend who is basically a black panther. He put up today that Peterson got a year and he didn't compromise the integrity of the game, so Brady should get at least a year..

Settle down jackass. Maybe two games, but sounds like tommy pigtails is going to file a lawsuit if anything happens.

there. is. no. evidence. or. proof. of. this.

When a guy gets busted for throwing a spitter, it's because the ump sees him do it. That's proof. Evidence. Ditto with stickum or vaseline on the arms.

Why are Brady and the Pats guilty until proven innocent?

so the jets got $100,000 for CHEATING and talking to Revis before he was a free agent.

No one cares. Why? they suck and have Geno Smith at QB

As an owner of two businesses I will just say I've had to deal with the lies of competitors for almost 25 years,I'll admit I'm no saint but I don't cheat nor lie to get an advantage in my businesses and believe me in firework sales it's easy as hell to do.These kind of things just p!ss me off and people for the most part just act like it's no big deal.
