tanatastic 2,062 Posted August 31, 2015 USA jumped out to a 10-2 first inning lead but could not hang on. Wait what? Seriously? I guess when your faced with being beaten to death if you lose it can inspire great rally's.
Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted August 31, 2015 I saw a good portion of it (except for the last rally that put it out of reach). The US was all over them in the first inning and then in the top of the 2nd, the Japanese came storming back. Just a boatload of hits and runs. Having 12 year olds with Makos on those small fields is really sort of a joke.

Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted September 1, 2015 You think those bats are shaved? Doubt it given that they are painted composite. It would show. I have not seen anyone attempt to shave composites.
Mile High Drunk 13 Posted September 2, 2015 Doubt it given that they are painted composite. It would show. I have not seen anyone attempt to shave composites. Composite bats are shaved all the time. They pop the end cap off and use a lathe to take out layers. Given that these came from Easton for this tourney, they could come hot as well. Easton's typically have a long break in time and these kids were hitting the ball off the handle and the ball was flying over the fence. There are tons of sites just like this one: http://www.batdoctor.net/bats2.html#YouthBats

Mile High Drunk 13 Posted September 2, 2015 Never noticed. How do you tell if they have been doctored? You can't. That is the "beauty" in shaving the bats. There is a difference in sound because the bat is thinner, but you have to know what a clean one sounds like as well. I know the bat shaving has become a major problem in little league baseball, fast pitch softball as well as slow pitch softball for adults. For adults in slow pitch softball, the difference can be 50 feet from that of a clean bat to a shaved bat.

Sounds like the inside and the only way to tell is if you have like an X-ray or MRI on the bat. Right?
Voltaire 5,205 Posted September 3, 2015 When I choose a bat, I choose the one that'll hit the ball hardest/longest. If shaving the bats is so effective, why don't they just make them that way in the first place?
Mile High Drunk 13 Posted September 3, 2015 So, do they shave the inside of the bat or the outside of the barrel? Sounds like the inside and the only way to tell is if you have like an X-ray or MRI on the bat. Right? Correct, they shave the inside of the bat. The only way to tell is if the end cap pops off and you can see the marks left by the lathe.
Mile High Drunk 13 Posted September 3, 2015 When I choose a bat, I choose the one that'll hit the ball hardest/longest. If shaving the bats is so effective, why don't they just make them that way in the first place? Because each league/association has their bat standards. For example youth USSSA baseball has a 1.15bpf standard that bats cannot go below. Youth bats are almost universally governed by the USSSA 1.15 BPF.BPF stands for Bat Performance Factor, and measures the how fast the ball comes off the bat. Bats must meet this BPF standard in order to be approved for play. So if you were to shave the bat, it would exceed those current standards that USSSA has considered safe for play. I had a friend who umpired a girls fast pitch tournament and he was saying that the number of shaved bats was mind boggling.

I am going to have all kids in all teams pop the end of their bats next year for tournaments. We run tournaments for 8-12 year olds. I will see if I can get a count. Mike Hunt 264 Posted September 4, 2015 Just seems like the Oriental players are more advanced skill wise at a younger age than the American kids. Then the Americans and Dominicans get bigger and stronger.
JTB 52 Posted September 4, 2015 Just seems like the Oriental players are more advanced skill wise at a younger age than the American kids. Then the Americans and Dominicans get bigger and stronger. The Japs are more disciplined and work harder at the young age. Then what you say about others getting bigger and stronger is true.
the newb 23 Posted September 7, 2015 The game was stupidly high scoring because both teams were out of pitching. Because the 4 days rest after 85 pitches is ridiculous
nobody 2,578 Posted September 7, 2015 Just seems like the Oriental players are more advanced skill wise at a younger age than the American kids. Then the Americans and Dominicans get bigger and stronger. 1. I doubt foreign countries obey the age limits. 2. The foreign countries are probably putting together teams that are pulling in all-stars from all over the country while the US is supposed to adhere to regional boundaries. Not that I care. It's little league afterall, but you're high if you think these teams aren't bending the rules.

southcarolina 166 Posted September 8, 2015 Ash Borer.. Maple breaks up to much...hence the near decapitations Wood bats are expensive. The ash bat we got my son for Christmas lasted about three months before the barrel started to disintegrate. Paid $120 for the bay from a company that some major leaguers use. Replaced two maple bats at around a hundred bucks a pop this summer playing in five wood bat tourmanents. All in all i'd rather pay $300 for a BBCOR bat and be done with it.
