I saw a good portion of it (except for the last rally that put it out of reach). The US was all over them in the first inning and then in the top of the 2nd, the Japanese came storming back. Just a boatload of hits and runs. Having 12 year olds with Makos on those small fields is really sort of a joke.

Doubt it given that they are painted composite. It would show. I have not seen anyone attempt to shave composites.

Composite bats are shaved all the time. They pop the end cap off and use a lathe to take out layers. Given that these came from Easton for this tourney, they could come hot as well. Easton's typically have a long break in time and these kids were hitting the ball off the handle and the ball was flying over the fence. You can't. That is the "beauty" in shaving the bats. There is a difference in sound because the bat is thinner, but you have to know what a clean one sounds like as well. I know the bat shaving has become a major problem in little league baseball, fast pitch softball as well as slow pitch softball for adults. For adults in slow pitch softball, the difference can be 50 feet from that of a clean bat to a shaved bat.

Correct, they shave the inside of the bat. The only way to tell is if the end cap pops off and you can see the marks left by the lathe.

I am going to have all kids in all teams pop the end of their bats next year for tournaments. We run tournaments for 8-12 year olds. I will see if I can get a count.

The end caps are usually epoxied on and hard to pop off without heating up and then using a screw driver to remove it.

1. I doubt foreign countries obey the age limits.

2. The foreign countries are probably putting together teams that are pulling in all-stars from all over the country while the US is supposed to adhere to regional boundaries.

The ash bat we got my son for Christmas lasted about three months before the barrel started to disintegrate. Paid $120 for the bay from a company that some major leaguers use.

 

 

Replaced two maple bats at around a hundred bucks a pop this summer playing in five wood bat tourmanents. All in all i'd rather pay $300 for a BBCOR bat and be done with it.

I'm sure you know, but a game bat should be just that; get a couple lesser grade bats and tape the barrel for tee and cage work.
