Guys, Talk Me Off The Ledge

Recommended Posts

This is not a "rate my team"

I drafted last night (11th out of 16) in a half-point PPR. My goal going in was to have two bona-fide #1 WRs, then go RB, then TE and go RB again - after that get best QB left and then start building the bench (we start two WR, two RB, one TE and a flex). Anyways, I either adjusted very well to the draft or I totally effed up.

1st pick - Dez - mission accomplished.

2nd pick - Gronk - could not believe he was still there and had to take him (at least I thought I did).

3rd pick - Tate - best valuable WR left (K. Allen, Landry, Edleman) - maybe should have picked Landry but I think between the two it was close. OK-so at least I am somewhat back on track.

4th pick - Peyton Manning - This is where I think I screwed up (definitely went against my plan) - I felt that the value of Peyton in the fourth round (5 QBs off the board) was too good to pass up - I should passed on him in hindsight as I could have grabbed Landry as my flex)

5th pick - Kelce - another I can't believe he is here and he'll make a great flex option all year - but now I am screwed in the no-RB department

6th pick - Blount - (grabbed Gray later for 1st week) - now the rest of the draft I am drafting crap RBs that usually would never be on my team (Artis-Payne, Denard Robinson, Ronnie Hillman, Brandon Boldin) - and believe me these were the best choices

The point of this and maybe you guys can shed some light is I've heard the strategy of drafting the best available player, but I think if I had just stayed true to my plan I would be much happier than I am now. I probably would have a team like this: Dez, Cooks, Yeldon, Landry, Kelce, Blount, Bradford/Tannehill instead of Dez, Gronk, Tate, Manning, Kelce, Blount.

Perhaps it should be changed to best available player at a position which you don't have a starter for except Defense, Kicker, and maybe TE. I couldn't justify picking up a 2nd TE w/o picking at least 1 starting RB. I would be more upset about that than taking Manning. I'm not sure which RBs were left though especially with 16 teams. I am not so sure you will be missing out on Yeldon. I don't expect much from any Jags RBs (I have him as a backup in one of my leagues, so I hope he does well, but I'm not counting on it). If worse comes to worse you can always trade.

Not a fan of Tate in the 3rd round. He had a real nice year last year, but 2 of his 4 TDs, 27 of his 99 catches, and 353 of his 1331 yards came in the 3 games that Megatron did not play in last year. If your plan was to come out of the first three rounds with two bona-fide #1 WR's then why draft Tate in the 3rd? Landry would have been a better choice there or even Hopkins. Can't go wrong with Gronk in the 2nd though! Curious what RBs you passed on in the 3rd to take Tate? I would've passed on Peyton in the 4th, and for a 16 teamer, where RBs are a premium, you needed to get a RB with your 3rd or 4th pick IMO. I'd start looking for trade partners.

Kelce will be good. But expect plenty of single digit weeks. Remember who is throwing to him. In the flex, a RB or WR in that range has more upside and consistancy.

You should've drafted another TE instead of Blount and you could've been completely shitty then.

This borderline stuff is for the birds. All or nothing.

I think you could have gotten 2 good RBs in the 3rd - 5th rounds, waited on sleeper WRs and been more solid. Peyton is a huge commodity though, you should see what kind of haul he will bring in, and I promise you someone is desperate at TE, Peyton plus Kelce could get you some serious RB help.

16 teams is a whole 'nother beast. I really like getting Dez and Gronk. You may have a hammer lock on the two best at their positions--huge in a league that size. Manning is a fine pick. Just think of the guy having to roll with Flacco. If you oases up Hopkins for Tate than that's nuts but I would prefer Tate to Landry for upside.

You focked up taking Kelce. However, if he's really the third best TE, then you trade him. Someone will want to upgrade. Hope for an early big week out of him.

The bright side of having a roster full of crappy RBs - you'll have no problem letting them go when the waiver wire breakout guys start showing up (and they do every year).

Just think of all the owners last year holding on to their Montee Balls deep into the season and leaving CJ Anderson on the wire. (Always a tough decision to drop a first-round pick)

I've seen teams make it to the championship game with half of their starters being waiver wire guys.

Yea people are not quite seeing that its a 16tm league. Kelce was a great value at that point even tho he needed an rb. Thats like 7th round in a regular league.

Id trade kelce for a wr2 (16 teamer, someone is dying for a TE), drop Tate to flex, pray hillman becomes the man and Peyton to be Peyton.

Not sure why u have Brandon Bolden - can't imagine ever starting him in NE

For a 16-team league I think most of the picks are fairly solid. I think Kelce at pick ~75 is a steal. I like Tate this year too and much more than the other 3 receivers you listed so I don't really have a problem with that pick if there wasn't a better RB option. My main gripe would be Manning in the 4th depending on what was available at RB. There are a lot of good qb's out there so you probably could have waited.

Some guys really nail the draft. You are not under the umbrella of "some". :bandana:

Sometimes people nail the draft. Sometimes the draft nails people. :cornholed:

I think your perfectly fine for a 16 team league and the only questionable call was Tate

And Kelce. The goal here is to hope he blows up. If so, there will be multiple people in a 16 team league willing to make a trade. Good Lord is the TE position this year terrible.
