posty 2,625 Posted November 3, 2015 Might be coming to FOX... http://tvseriesfinale.com/tv-show/greatest-american-hero-fox-commits-to-revival-pilot-39371/?utm_content=buffer659d9&utm_medium=social&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_campaign=buffer Believe it or not, The Greatest American Hero ran for 44 episodes over three seasons, before being cancelled by ABC, on February 3, 1983. Teacher, Ralph Hinkley (William Katt), receives a super-powered suit from aliens, who tell him that he and FBI agent Bill Maxwell (the late Robert Culp) must save the world. The two form an unlikely alliance, as Ralph learns to master the suit (the instructions to which he lost). They are helped along by Ralphs divorce lawyer/girlfriend, Pam Davidson (Connie Selleca). In August 2014, we reported FOX was walking on air at the thought of rebooting the Stephen J. Cannell series to the point of investing in a put pilot. Fifteen months later, FOX has made a pilot production commitment to a series reboot, with a creative team including Rick Famuyiwa, Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Tawnia McKiernan (who, per Deadline, is Cannells daughter). Continue on for details. From Deadline: Written and to be directed by Famuyiwa, Greatest American Hero is the story of what happens when great power is not met with great responsibility. An ordinary man, completely content with being average, wakes up with a superpower suit he never asked for and has to deal with the complications it brings his life. Miller, Lord and McKiernan executive produce with Lord Millers President of Television, Seth Cohen. Fox and 20th TV are bullish on the title with a second stab at rebooting it, hiring a casting director to start working on finding the lead. Lord and Miller also were behind last years Fox/20th TV Greatest American Hero remake with a different writer, Rodney Rothman, which had a put pilot commitment. posty 2,625 Posted September 12, 2017 Looks like it is coming to ABC... http://tvline.com/2017/09/08/the-greatest-american-hero-reboot-abc-female-pilot/ Should we start calling it The Greatest American Heroine? ABC has given a put-pilot commitment to a reboot of ’80s cult hit The Greatest American Hero, our sister site Deadline is reporting. But there’s a twist: Instead of the original’s accidental superhero Ralph Hinkley, the new Hero will be an Indian-American woman named Meera who’s fond of drinking tequila and singing karaoke. As in the original, Meera will stumble upon an alien superhero suit that endows her with superhuman powers… that she’s barely in control of. Fresh Off the Boat writer Rachna Fruchbom will pen the pilot script, and since ABC gave it a put-pilot commitment, the network will face major financial penalties if it passes on the show, which virtually guarantees it’ll make it to air. This is a homecoming of sorts: The original Greatest American Hero also ran on ABC from 1981 to 1983, starring William Katt as Ralph Hinkley, Robert Culp as FBI agent Bill Maxwell and Connie Sellecca as lawyer Pam Davidson. It’s probably best remembered, though, for its theme song, “Believe It or Not,” which hit No. 2 on the Billboard Top 40 charts in August 1981.
