Do any of you have trouble spending money?

Recommended Posts

I have a 5 year old phone for this reason.

Still have an S3. My second actually, bought another when the first broke for $80. No way am I signing up for 2 more years to get a cheap phone from Sprint. Bought my wife a used Note5 for Christmas. The great thing about phones is some people are so willing to get the lastest, the market for 2nd hand phones is great.

Also my son has a second hand Iphone.

Thanks for a great reminder that there is person behind every post.

Here is another story about spending money on tickets. My son is Ravens fan and wanted to go a game in BMore this season. I said, great they are playing the Skins we'll go to that one. Did I just buy tix? No way, I checked the tickets for months waiting for a deal. Called everyone I know with ticket connections. Finally bought the morning of gameday.

Hah..yep..i do that too. Go thru the time and agvravation trying to find a deal for something i could easily afford in the first place. So dumb...im with ya though.

I have a flip phone, which I only replaced because I lost the last one. :dunno:

There's a point of diminishing returns. Maybe you save $50, sounds great right? But not if took you 10 hours and a bunch of hand wringing to do it

Looking for deals becomes it's own thing. I probably saved $70 on the pair by buying last second, which I immediately spent on food and drink.

Lost my job (downsized), got another at 2/3rds of the pay, then lost that one when the company folded. Off for close to a year before getting another low paying job. Wife then lost her job, took quite a while to find something part time. She then got her hours cut to about 10hrs a week. She found a better job, 30+hrs a week at Walmart. Yeah, Walmart was a step up. I had an accident somewhere in there and spend 4 months on comp at $680 a month income.

I've had 7-8 raises in the past 4yrs, and still make less than most here joke about as low pay. There's eight people in my household, half of which bring in zero income. One daughter has a job, another is on disability. We spent about a year going under at around $100 a week before we had to stop making house payments. We then filed for bankruptcy before we lost the house. Now, we usually have an extra $100 or so at the end of the month, until something goes wrong, like the vehicle I mentioned.

The wife's medical bills are new, not on the bankruptcy. We're in the hole an extra $5-6k from that in the last couple of months. And yes, that's with health insurance.

Jesus.. This explains a lot, T&P's bubba.

I did. It was a 36", not some tiny little thing. Heavy as fock though. Saving up for stuff like electricity, water, gas, car insurance, got a vehicle that needs fixed or replaced... you know, stuff like that. Wife's got medical problems, piling up bills on that. Bankruptcy leaves me $179 a week plus overtime. Usually get 10+hrs of overtime, but no guarantees there. Some weeks I'll get 60+ hrs, others just under 40.

I've posted before, I'm just a few miles outside of the ghetto... in more ways than one. I'm in what used to be a good area, now it's below average. Whole area is low income, and low cost of living.

Keep grinding and doing the right thing man. It may seem overwhelming at times, but you can eventually see light at the end of the tunnel. I've been there.

Are you still enjoying the Fit?

The Fit is the perfect example of what I was describing. I was agonizing for like a year over this car, finding prospects on Craigslist, watching them sell immediately, scanning the used car lots, never being able to pull the trigger. Finally one day I was feeling chipper, saw one with the specs I wanted on a dealer's used car website, made an appointment for that evening, and just decided beforehand that if I liked it, I'd buy it.

It's a great car, with one minor but kinda significant flaw. I'm a-gonna link you to a couple posts I made in another thread about that:

How's your search going? Still looking? You were a-zeroin' in on a Civic, weren't you?

Fock that. Get a couple of kids to move out (talking about tax time) and I'm fine. Gonna change the focking locks once they're out the door. Talked to my wife, her medical bills are down to a couple of grand right now... progress.

The post in the second link is hilarious :D although I'm sorry it has this problem. Are you thinking of selling it or are you going to put up with it for a while?

I left off with looking for a while but I want to get back into it soon, and start with Civics. My brother gave back a truck (originally was my grandparents) he'd driven for years so if I wind up actually having a commute soon, I'll be covered.

Well, if I only drove when I needed to, I'd almost never be in it and it wouldn't be a big deal. The problem is, I like riding around listening to Adam Carolla podcast, and afterwards my lower back aches like I have PMS. So yup, I'm not in any rush, but I'll keep my eyes open for an opportunity to maybe get something similar but more comfortable.

Glad you are covered for now. What kind of truck is it? If you get close to buying something you really want, promise me you'll update us.

I went to a casino for the first time in almost a year on Sat.

I sat at the quarter blackjack table and was down 150 within the first 15 minutes. I stared at the remaining chips for a second and thought wtf am I doing here? It wasn't even entertaining so I left.

On the way home, I stopped at Lowes to look at drills since mine sh!t the bed last week. My intention had been to buy the dewalt combo kit.

When I got inside, I saw a much cheaper Porter Cable and actually contemplated it forever because I kept thinking about how I just pissed away the difference in price at the blackjack table.

I got disgusted with myself, bought nothing and went home.

I've won and lost (mostly lost) lots of money gambling over the years. This was only a $150 loss, but I'm pretty sure I'm done with gambling forever.

Heroin is for them. Get em in the Cosby coma for the sick twisted stuff in case the U.N. is watching.
