PS is a scientist, so he misses everything outside of the clinical equation. That said, don't defend your drinking. It doesn't look good. Is your work, wife, kid relationship as good as it might be if your were sober? You'll never know. Nor will I, for that matter.

I am really not defending my drinking, other than saying 2-3 beers per night does not in any way make me an alcoholic or put me in the same company as a guy who's downing a 6-pack and fifth of vodka every evening. That's nuts.

 

My drinking literally never interferes with my job or relationships. I would quit or at least cut back a lot if it did.

I am sure a doctor wouldn't approve of my drinking but I seriously don't see it as an issue. At least, I'd guess that my odds of acquiring a drinking-related disease are closer to yours than say Bunny Bastards'.

 

I never actually get the sense that you post this stuff in an effort to educate anyone here. I think that's because of the sort of hectoring tone: "Don't blame ME if you get a disease!" That and you always seem to segue into talking about you and your diet, your rock climbing and activities etc.

 

Mostly I think you're one of those "It's all about Meeeeeee!!!" types and you see a thread with some sort of vaguely medical topic and feel compelled to demonstrate your expertise.

Nah. I never volunteered I was a doctor until asked repeatedly by Medstudent, and start very few topics. Hard to be self-serving posting mostly responses. But don't we all post primarily about things we know/feel strongly about? What look at meeeee benefit do I derive from responding to gun control, climate change, NBA finals threads, etc.?

 

I probably lash out a bit at you guys because I can't do so IRL when patients make the same sh!tty excuses for their decisions. And you probably feel I'm hectoring because what I'm saying threatens your rationalization of your unhealthy behaviors.

Pro tip... When I'm angry and posting in political threads I'm off the wagon (2-3 months back), and when I'm happy and avoiding the donks I'm sticking to the Jah Bless (right now)!

 Updater… Went for my first check up in a decade. Had five viles of blood taken out of me. I went to get the results today and asked the doctor to give me the bad news first. As expected my liver enzymes are very high and they want to do an ultrasound on it. Blood pressure is high, but everything else was good considering my age, I’m the old speed limit now 55. They were amazed how great the results are. When I went to detox last year, BAL was .40. I refused to get in a wheelchair and and walked like a champ. They were amazed that I could do that. Spent eleven days in detox. The first three were extremely hard on me. Shaking bad and withdrawal symptoms were not fun and I was scared. Big fawking time. Fourth day, I was not going through the Days and said “keep me here as I needed a break from life and NO booze. I was drinking a six pack of tall boys and a fifth of vodka. I’ve completely eradicated all hard alcohol and am down a six pack of tall boy.s now.

So after all that drinking, it's not had much or a permanent effect... Well, I guess we'll see what that very high liver enzyme ultrasound turns out to be, but you're cutting down on the drinking to get there. Keep it up, Bunny.

So I lost another friend to alcoholism last week. Pancreatic cancer.Went stage four in a week. I rode in Endymion with him for eleven years. Glenn. RealLy great person. He was only fifty three. 
 

I got a call from my doctor today.  Malaysia says I need a colonoscopy as there is an 11 mm growth in my pancreas or large intestines. A stone or maybe a tumor. Made my appointment for next Tuesday and thought of this…
