wiffleball 4,793 Posted July 12, 2017 Can somebody intelligent summarize the whole issue around net neutrality? Does it have something to do with Nets that capture tuna but not dolphins?
fandandy 3,313 Posted July 12, 2017 Can somebody intelligent summarize the whole issue around net neutrality? Does it have something to do with Nets that capture tuna but not dolphins? It's the interNET, dummy, and the neutrality part is a United Nations push to make every article on the entire innerwebs neutral as to not offend anyone. iam90sbaby 2,696 Posted July 12, 2017 Can somebody intelligent summarize the whole issue around net neutrality? Does it have something to do with Nets that capture tuna but not dolphins? They are trying to do to the internet what they did to cable. Example: Right now lets say this is what your provider offers: 20 Mbps $20/m 50 Mbps $50/m 100 Mbps $75/m If NN gets taken away it may be something like: 20 Mbps $20/m + Social media package $15 + Gaming package $10 + Streaming package $20 50 Mbps $50/m + Social media package $15 + Gaming package $10 + Streaming package $20 75 Mbps $75/m + Social media package $15 + Gaming package $10 + Streaming package $20 Essentially they are just screwing the consumer and looking for another stream of income. Sign it.
mobb_deep 920 Posted July 12, 2017 Can somebody intelligent summarize the whole issue around net neutrality? Does it have something to do with Nets that capture tuna but not dolphins? Think of a highway. Net neutrality means you can drive in any lane of the highway at the same speed as everyone else, regardless of your cars make and model. Ending net neutrality means the big internet providers can charge a premium and/or force cars of certain makes and models of their choosing to drive in a slower lane. mobb_deep 920 Posted July 12, 2017 Actually this one is on Obama, you have a short selective memory. LOL. I think you're confused as usual. Obama and the FCC passed Net Neutrality in 2015, to regulate the internet, similar to how telecom is regulated (no pay for play). Trump and the GOP want to roll these regulations back, so AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, etc. can fvck us all over even further than they do already.

I won't just side with the right simply because they are right, this is absolutely retarded if they roll this back.
mobb_deep 920 Posted July 12, 2017 How come? I won't just side with the right simply because they are right, this is absolutely retarded if they roll this back. Agreed. As you can see in this thread, I think a big problem is most people don't even understand WTF it is to begin with. ETA: And yes, I've signed it.

They write the them to be misleading and/or so the general public doesn't understand. Its retarded. Anyone that backs this CLEARLY doesn't have a clue whats going on. Did you hear about Amendment 1 that we voted on in Florida this past election cycle? Thankfully it didn't pass, but it almost did. Essentially the FL government was trying to own the sun: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics-government/election/article113449438.html

I'm guessing kind of like the only legislation that passed this year is the one that everybody hated. The one where your internet usage data and your personal data medical Financial Etc was all up for sale? Somehow Congress push that one right through even though nobody wanted it. ZeroTolerance 584 Posted July 12, 2017 What a surprise, our elected officials selling out their constituents for corporate money. Good thing they have gerrymandered the maps to make sure we don't show our appreciation next election cycle.

supermike80 2,021 Posted July 12, 2017 Considering that the petition is regarding the internet itself I think its fitting. Something like 4 million or more people signed the petition asking the electoral college to not certify Trump. And that didn't do fock all. Online petitions are an utter waste of time. In my opinion of course.

Wal-Mart's telephone works the exact same as the Ma & Pa store. It would be wrong if Wal-Mart's phone only had to ring once before someone could answer, but Ma & Pa's phone had to ring 1,000 times before someone could answer. Why should giant corporations have faster websites than everyone else? It's a utility.
