That's a great one. There's a laughing version. He sings do you look at your bald head and wish you had hair. Curtis Mayfield wrote the song by calling up various sermons hed heard in church.

 

Not preachy or hymn-like, rather a smooth r&b groove behind lyrics with a message of community and spirituality

Another artist once stole some of the verse for one of his own hit songs, then recorded a second version crediting Mayfield years later.

 

Many artists covered this song and I came to know a version recorded in the 80s. It instantly became one of my all time favorites.

 

This is also one of the first songs I ever sang in front of an audience.
