In 2003, the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster class action lawsuit was filed, alleging that Ticketmaster failed to fully disclose to consumers all aspects of its UPS and order processing fees. While vigorously defending the lawsuit, Ticketmaster settled the case in 2013, with the court granting final approval of the settlement in February 2015.

The settlement class generally includes all consumers who purchased tickets on Ticketmaster.com between October 21, 1999, and February 27, 2013 (the "class period").

As part of the Schlesinger v. Ticketmaster settlement, Ticketmaster agreed to provide:

To each class member, one discount code (worth $2.25 off a future purchase of primary tickets) for every purchase made on Ticketmaster.com during the class period, up to 17 discount codes per person.
To class members who used UPS delivery during the class period, one $5 UPS discount code for every purchase made on Ticketmaster.com that included UPS delivery, again up to 17 UPS discount codes per person.
To each class member, one ticket voucher (potentially redeemable for two eligible general admission tickets for select events at Live Nation owned or operated venues, subject to availability and limitations) for every purchase on Ticketmaster.com during the class period, up to 17 vouchers per person. The Settlement Agreement limits the value of vouchers that are to be redeemed in a given year. The Settlement Agreement limits the value of vouchers that are to be redeemed in a given year and in total. In 2018, Ticketmaster fulfilled the ticket voucher requirements.

bought the wife Dido tickets for Xmas, tickets were $43, fee was $10.  I went for the mobile tickets.  I actually don't think that is too crazy.

You don't think a 25% markup is a but much?

I mean Dido wrote music, she and backup musicians travel to your town, pay for the venue, pay promoters, pay a road crew, etc., They get $43.

Ticketmaster sets up a website and emails you a ticket. They get $10?

Maybe AOC can lower her sights and take on Ticketbastard first. Positive results in that fight is more attainable and will benefit Ds and Rs alike.

There is a lot more that simply that Ticketmaster does but it is still exorbitant

What more do they do?

They provide pretty extensive even advertising. They handle all event customer service issues.

I'm not saying I don't think their fees are not exorbitant, but they do a lot more than email ya a pdf

Like I said above they wanted the service charge and then an additional $6 to pick up at will call.

as bandrus said, I do think they do a bit more than that, but can't say exactly what.  Ticketmaster has been around for a while, has anyone tried to compete?

Who did all that when I used to be able to go to the venue and buy the ticket in person with no additional fees?

I'm sure you'll be following this post up with the specifics on how it differs.  Because automation, as we've been discussing lately, LOWERS costs.  It does not raise them.

:dunno:

Clearly venue box offices do not want to handle the customer service end of $250 tickets in some cases

Concerts are no longer $10

I asked a few posts ago..why hasn't someone come in and challenged Ticketmaster.  Pearl Jam tried on some level to fight Ticketmaster..how did that go?  Poorly, they sell their tix on TM now.  or that is...who "uses" TM on the seller side...is it the band, the venue, the promoter?

Ticketmaster has exclusive contracts with most venues.  Also:

Did you actually scan those?  Like today?  As if they prove something?  ROFLMAO.  Ooh, you got me.  40-50 years ago concerts cost $10.  How much were they in 1920?  My Mom probably paid less for Elvis too.  But refresh my memory.  When did ticketnazi start gouging us again?  Because that's what we've been discussing.  And your excuse justifying them gouging is that venues don't want to deal with money any more.  As if people paying big bucks for shows are walking up with mass quantities of cash.   Or that a venue like Pepsi center would have trouble dealing with it if they did.  Have you seen how much shirts are at concerts now?  You can easily spend hundreds just on memorabilia at a concert but somehow they are able to process that money.

Seriously, why are you defending ticketnazi?  Do you work for them?  If there was one thing I'd think we could all agree on it's that ticketnazi is a monopoly that uses that power to gouge people buying tickets. The rest of world already understands this.  But only in the geek club would you find one obstinate person who just has to defend the indefensible.

Why would I?  You've yet to answer my question regarding how things are different now than when you could buy tickets direct from venues or at music stores that operated similarly to ticketnazi but without the gouging.  Then you said the reason was because venues don't want to deal with money any more, which is laughable on it's face.  But I can understand why you want to latch on to one irrelevant detail as a "gotcha".  Otherwise, you look extremely foolish.
