Oh, damn.  I just got done watching "Pearl" and was looking forward to Maxxine.

Have you watched MaXXXine yet?  Just wondering what you thought…

Thoughts on Speak No Evil?  Didn't see it mentioned here in recent posts, comes out this Friday the 13th.  Planning on going with my (adult) daughter next week -- my wife hates such movies, but she's out of town.

I’m usually not a fan of remakes of foreign language movies but this might be good. The original started great and then got really stupid and grotesque at the end. McAvoy is great casting for the role and hopefully they toned down some of the ore disgusting bits.

Caught a couple of "horror" movies while on a biz trip.   Had seen previews for them and wanted to see them before any spoilers came out.

"Strange Darling" - go in as blind as possible.  I liked it though it does start kinda slow.

"Blink Twice" - decent enough but they basically spoiled their own damn movie by including a TRIGGER WARNING at the start.  So basically they gave a heads up about something that would happen.  Story was still interesting but entire time I was just waiting for how the triggering content would come into play.

Is Strange Darling streaming? I want to see this one.

I like a good horror movie but dont feel like going through the trash anymore.  Dont watch nearly as many as you folks.

I thought Late Night With the Devil was fun/different/good.  Hard for me to say that about too many movies these days.

Got tix for Wednesday, a great dinner and a movie (and alcohol) theater.  I'll report back.

ETA:  I haven't seen the original so I can't make that comparison.

I sort of hated the original. This might be the rare case where toning it down would make the film better. Last episode of Evolution of Horror podcast has an interview with the director, if you’re curious for after you see it.

Watched it tonight, meh... not gory in any way, but not terribly suspenseful or otherwise worthy of a "horror" film thread.

Nothing remotely close to nudity.  :(

Aw man! I bought tix for Saturday. I guess I'll settle just for the James McAvoy shirtless eye candy scenes.

I feel like the trailer gives waaaaaayyyyy too much away.  Not knowing the kid has his tongue cut out would've been a nice surprise.  Showing that in the trailer sure seems like a major spoiler.

Funny, I was going to respond to @DonSnudity question with:  do you find James McAvoy attractive?  :D

His wife in the movie is pretty hot, too.  But no gratuitous nudity.

Maybe I'm being harsh on it; let us know what you think.  It could be I went in with different expectations, which has happened to me before and made me not enjoy movies that other people liked.

I need to check these movies out, with some pocket dogs, before my vinegar strokes and my league Taco picks up a 4th Kicker.

I want to say actor's name is Mark Duplass(?).  Pretty sure he also wrote/directed the movie as well.

(I'm too lazy to IMDB of course.

Another good movie that I just finished up, "The Ritual" on Netflix...  Went into it having no idea what it was about, but saw a lot of other people recommend it...

Is that the one that takes place somewhere in Scandinavian backwoods?  If so, then yeah that was a good one.

Duplass has actually done a lot of different stuff. As has his brother Jay. Some of it’s good and most of it isn’t comedy. He was actually a pretty weird choice for The League but it worked

The original Speak No Evil was sh1t. Did not like hardly any of it, just boring and cringey until suddenly it was misery porn

I liked the setup a lot. The ending totally lost me and made me hate the film.

Yes! Sorry I missed this

Thought it was pretty good, the ending was predictable in terms of knowing how the couple operated. Didn't think the dad would come to the end that he did though, that was unexpected.

Thought it was a decent movie.

Saw "Apartment 7A" this weekend, kind of a prequel to Rosemary's Baby. Thought it was pretty good, also had an ending I didn't really expect which I kind of liked.

Also watched "Trap" new M Night movie. Didn't really care for this one, I thought it was completely predictable the ENTIRE time, kind of ruined it for me. I think not even 5 minutes in I knew what was happening, so I kind of lost interest.

NP, thanks for responding.  I just thought it took way too long to develop, and like you said, the ending was predictable.  Spoilers:

If nobody dies in a horror movie, is it really a horror movie?  Also, I thought the dad of the "victim" family was a total beta cuck, and his wife was wokely set up as the alpha of the family.  Both were bad actors IMO.

I liked the first 30 minutes or so. Then it was like “is this going anywhere?” and then, yes, that disgusting ending. Just not a good movie, don’t understand how it’s rated decently

So what so you freaks look for in a horror movie?  Good ones are so hard to find.  I personally like the ones that could possibly happen in real life.  I get the idea that its meant to be fantasy to some degree, but I cant get into the demonic possession BS or Sci Fi.

Yes. There has to the possibility of it happening in real life . That's why like, Nightmare on Elmstreet stuff was never scary to me.  I'm not saying demonic or ghost stuff isn't possible, but I can't correlate it to being real enough to scare me.

A dog with rabies seems relevant and possible to me. So Cujo was scary to me. At least back when I watched it last.

Others:

The Shining
Misery

Just finished watching “The Platform 2” on Netflix…. Wasn’t bad…

How does it compare to the first one?

I really like those "WTF is going on?" type movies.
