Yes, another good show ender.

Just curious- do people watch the whole show, or just New Rules?

I used to DVR every show forever. Got rid of HBO when GOT ended. I can only watch what I see on youtube.

I used to pride myself on watching Maher and some foxnews stuff.

So do they have to put trigger warnings on old Roy Rodgers episodes due to the name od his horse?  Wait, I don't recall ever seeing a roy rodgers rerun.  Nevermind.

Obviously could not make the movie Full Metal Jacket today.

There is a ton of stuff this applies to.  Hell, even newer stuff.   Could The Office get made today exactly as it was when it first aired?

The office is hardly new - 2005

Damn, I feel really old now. Lol.

More just saying we don't need to even get back to the 80s or John Wayne.  A lot of stuff has been neutered.

Probably that selective outrage Chris Rock was talking about it.  People like The Office, so it hasn't canceled - just bs they don't like.

CB 4 does not get made today and then we would be deprived of that cinematic masterpiece.

Maher must be an incredible irritant to liberals.

He calls balls and strikes, as do I, and I love his approach to it.  He calls out all the stupidity equally.  Though he does sometimes tilt a little harder toward the left, I sorta like that.  I like hearing a sane person trying to extol actual liberal values, not the current radical version.

Another great one.   Well done Bill....   Liberals cannot acknowledge progress because none of the progress in which they have invested have really produced the outcomes they forecasted, even though there is tangible progress.  But then again, pretending problems are as bad or worse is how you keep your sycophants' in line.

Poor Bernie. I have a soft spot for him, but I am left with no choice but to dismiss socialists after they buy their third house and an 80k sports car, while never having a job until they were 40 and that job provided a government salary. Call me crazy.

So basically what Yang said was "We're good and they're bad".  Isn't that what the Republican & Democrat leaders are saying?

It's also hard to take Yang seriously when he thinks Whitmer would make a good candidate for President.  I also think it's amazing how they're talking about the UBI as, how it was during COVID, was working.  Uh, no.  It was a contributing factor for tons of businesses going out of business and/or unskilled labor shortages across the country that still exists today.  UBI is a fast track to massive inflation.  Why on Earth, would an 18 to 22 year old in HS/college ever have a job?  What's the incentive?  If you make say, $15/hr and work 20hrs\Wk, that's $1300 in a month.  If Yang is giving you $1k to stay home and do nothing, you're essentially working 86.6 hours (if you take the 20 and multiply it by 4.3 for the month), for $300 extra dollars.  Why work?

You want to kill the mom & pop business industry, go with UBI's.  You want corporate dominance on a global level, go with UBI.  I thought the Democrats were opposed to corporate dominance?   Watch how fast minimum wage skyrockets.  Not in the sense of government mandates, but by businesses needing low skilled labor.  Wal-Mart, Chick-Fil-A, grocery stores, etc, will be offering $20+ an hour for a starting salary... maybe more.  Within a year, your $400 family grocery bill will be $1k.

I always watch the New Rules part if I am watching the show for sure.

The opening monologue is usually not so great.

I’ll watch the guest portion as well if they are interesting or it’s been a good news week. I preferred the old format with three guests better not sure why they dropped to just two.

I don’t believe so. At least not the majority of liberals. His live audience leans heavily left from the reactions they give.

Yang didn’t really answer that question when asked did he. He gave a high school level explanation of why SVB went down and then just completely dodged inflation question and started talking about the Forward Party 😂

I think it's pretty hilarious when both he and Slotkin say they don't think the extremists should be in power, and then Yang went and said that Newsom and Whitmer need to run in the Democrat primaries.  I mean seriously... anyone who listens to a liberal politician right now, is an absolute buffoon.  On top of that, he even advocates for NO PRIMARIES!  He's saying the best way to fix government is to give the party carte blanche on who's running and that person is in for life because no one is ever going to challenge them.

Anyone who supports Yang is 100% brain dead.

I don’t agree with most of this however Yang not answering the question about UBI was weak. Maher should have kept asking him about this. It is Yang’s main issue that he was by far most associated with.

He didn't answer because he knows it won't/can't work.

I agree with that. At least without such a dramatic change in our system. Was sad the Bill let him slide on that.

Sure, but you present as more left leaning, so I could see that more.

What I have found interesting is the last 2 years I've seen so many shout outs for Maher from the hard right people - BUT it usually only seems to be in reference to New Rules, which has been hammering things like woke for a bit.   I basically never see talk about anything from the middle of the show (where he is more likely to rail on the right as well), just New Rules.   My assumption was that the New Rules were just showing up on SM and people weren't actually watching the full show.   I could be wrong, but that's why I ask every once in a while.

You are spot on I think. In today’s cable “news shows” they just want to “own the other side” so a liberal (on some issues) like Maher saying something like look how absurd overly woke these policies are is easy programming for them. Nothing can be nuanced on the typical cable news show or many people’s social media.

Maher to this has a couple times in his show recently said something like “ok Fox that part you were going to like and use…you can stop recording now because I’m about to shred you and you won’t want to show this”  😂

Maher is definitely a liberal in most aspects but I don’t think you are right about him not calling out Dems. He does from time to time for sure just google something like “Maher rips Biden” .

His complaints, like many people do, come at the expense of who is in power.

Now Trump and the MTG’s of the political world he appropriately shreds like no other 😂

Kind of a big news week. This should be right up Maher’s ally. Hopefully guests are good.

James Carville rips far-left Democrats on Bill Maher podcast: ‘Most stupid, naive people you can imagine’

Quote

Carville revisited his criticisms of progressive Democrats later in the program, arguing they were a burden to the party.

Carville said he found them “annoying and silly” after Maher mocked the notion of “pregnant men.”

“Most people don’t even know what they’re talking about,” Carville said. “The identity left are silly. They’re not evil, they’re just goofy.”

The Democratic strategist argued that white leftists had hijacked the term “woke” and driven voters away from the party.

“What happened is, overeducated, coastal white people, got ahold of the word and [like] they do with everything else, they completely f—ked it up and pissed everybody in the country off,” he said bluntly. “If we could just get the humanities faculty at Amherst [College] to shut the f—k up, we’d be a lot better off.”

😁

Looks like @edjrquit on this thread.

Anyway, Maher nails the pathetic status of our "elite" institutions.

He always manages to end his segments with a dig on the Right, even after spending the first 8 minutes pointing out the problems with the Left.
