That's an ungodly amount to some people, but to Reed & his wife, apparently it's not much. Reed went down in Week 3 with a knee sprain that was expected to cost him 6-8 weeks. He seems to be making good progress. The 49ers now have 21 days to activated Reed or shut him down for the year. Did you ever see the post where someone found Andrew McCutchen's pay stub? His net pay was literally half of his gross pay. If he saw all $40M of that contract, before it hit his bank account, the government took at least $20M. Then you have the agent/accountant costs, union dues, etc. After all of that crap was paid and you factor in money for charitable donations and what not (because most players generally give a lot of money for that stuff... and not 100% of it can be written off), I'm thinking his final take home pay was about 25% of the gross.
