From the way it has been explained I don’t see how they replace Joe. It would be like an episode of “The West Wing” which would be cool but won’t happen.

The money, the fracturing of the party, tie timing. It’s Joe or bust. He Ruth Bader Ginsberg’d it, he hung around too long.

If it arises that Joe hands over his electors to someone else, that could work I guess.

There are perhaps two schools of thought. The first might be that Joe still represents their best chance to hold power.  The second might be that a Newsome or Whitmer or other candidate could be a better tool.

Some might think that waiting this long is just too dangerous, to suddenly "switch up" and others likely think Biden is just too risky now....

Its a real conundrum for the party. They put on a good face though, and continue to lie and lie and lie....

It just feels to me that steam has picked up even more this evening for Biden to be thrown overboard.  My best guess would be for Kamala Harris at this point but who knows.  I think the identity politics issue for the Dems is going to force their hand there though.  They can lose with Kamala just as easily as they can with Biden and it checks that box for those who are keeping score.  At this point I think she has a better chance than Biden anyway.

We will see.  It just really feels to me like the train is already rolling.  He does have to go along to make it happen, but I think enormous pressure is going to be brought to bear.   The leaks of what Obama is telling people, what Whitmer is telling people, suddenly now Clyburn is saying he would back Harris should she take over and Biden step aside, etc, etc.  All of that isn't one big accident in my view.  He may not acquiesce to it, but I think the pressure is going to get turned up a bit.  He could be done prior to the interview, or could use it to step aside.  It appears now Harris is already polling better against Trump than he is.  All speculation obviously but it seems that the media has turned on him and there's no walking back things that have been said.

It's going to get worse as more polls come out.  People running down the ballot don't want to be sacrificed if they think it's going to be a blowout.  Representatives and eventually some in the Senate will likely continue to come out and call for him to step aside.  The fact he still hasn't fielded live questions makes me think the ability of him to do so is wishful thinking more than reality.  It will have to go way beyond some softballs from Stephanopoulos as well.  Bovada has been moving away from Biden and more toward Harris all day.  The numbers for a general election win are now Biden +425 and Harris +700.   Trump is now down to -185, which vig adjusted is probably a 70% favorite over the field.

I could definitely see the scenario playing out where more people in Congress start speaking up. Still think it’s most likely Biden rides this out but if these headlines are still coming out next week it starts getting pretty messy and these things can snowball fast. 

Harris would set up some good political story lines to build off - abortion issue front and center. Pair her with the Kentucky Gov, the North Carolina Gov and you never know.

Kamala sucked pretty hard when she ran in 2016 but anyone who can put a sentence together has a decent chance against Don IMO.
