I paid for my 80% of my kids "indoctrination" so I've still got a bit of nut to work through.  But overall I'd say less than I'd like but my wife has always worked flexible part time gigs so we never put the kids in daycare.  I didn't start making great cash until I was 35 or so so it's sometimes been a bit of a struggle.  I'm 54 and think I have maybe 10 more years in me.  I'm shooting for retirement savings of as close to $2M as I can get by then.  We'll see.  Social security will be a nice add-on.

I guess I really don't have to see your bank statements, you've already told us.

I'm younger than you and have more money than you.  Corporate Executive at 54 years old with not much cash in the retirement plan?  What corporation is that?

I wish you sooner than 10 more years with your health stuff going on.  Good luck.  I'm not planning to work a day past 55.

LMFAO, now I know you LARP about money too.  Just like you LARP about being hetero with a wife when you're actually a closet homo with gay porn links at your fingertips...LMFAO.

I've put my kids through college the last 8 years so, now they're set and I can more focus on me and my wife.

And why would I retire now?  I have a great job, make great money, help set the organization's strategy and direction, and I have no desire to retire and just travel or sit around all day.  Unlike you I don't fear death, if I die I die, so be it.

You on the other hand are a LARPing homo who likely has no wife, has to toil at some kind of trade or manual laborer, and has no family or kids.  I actually pity you now that I think about it.  The most success you feel in life is LARPing on some stupid, obscure website to the same 10 people.  Lying about your sexuality, your wife, your money, everything.

The only word is PATHETIC.

As a I said, I don't brag or LARP (like your homo ass), I spit truth.  And you think having a $2M goal for retirement means I don't have a lot now?  How much would I have to have now in order to hit $2M in 10 years or less given 401k restrictions jackass?  Now I now you LARP about money too.  Just like you LARP about being hetero with a wife when you're actually a closet homo with gay porn links at your fingertips...LMFAO.

I've put my kids through college the last 8 years so, now they're set and I can more focus on me and my wife.  My wife has never worked so we've sacrificed money that way.

Just 2M at age 64 isn't normal for most corporate executives.  What corporation are you an executive at?

401K restrictions?  Sounds like you might need some help with that.  Any reputable corporation would, especially if you were an executive.  I'm currently putting in $74,500 each year into retirement accounts that will grow free from capitol gains tax.  Let me know if you need me to break it down for you and tell you how.

It's a personal choice, but, if I had your health problems I would retire this second.

GOOD LUCK

@Raven Fan  Let me help you out.  And anyone else that's looking to maximize their retirement accounts.

Best and maximum retirement contributions.

You have to have your employer set up a retirement plan with these options:  401(k), 401(k) Roth and 401(k) After-Tax.  A lot of companies don't know and/or don't offer all three.  But there isn't any reason they can't.

Max 401(k) and/or 401(k) Roth contribution 2022: $20,500

50+ Catch up 2022: $6,500

Max total employer retirement account contributions 2022: 67,500

That means you can contribute $40,500 more after-tax money to a 401(k) after-tax account if your employer has that option available.  Simply roll that $40,500 (I do it twice a year, 20K a pop) into a regular Roth IRA.  It's called a Mega Backdoor Roth if you want to google about it.

Don't forget a regular backdoor Roth $7,000 if you don't have any existing regular IRA accounts.

So:

$27,000 401(k) Roth

$40,500 Mega Backdoor

$7,000 Regular Backdoor

$74,500 total invested each year that will grow tax free, no capital gains tax, ever.

2023 limits go up to:

401(k) - $22,500

Catch up - $7,500

Total Employer Plan - $73,500

Leaves $43,500 to after-tax

Backdoor Roth - $7,500

$81,000 total

Hell, assuming you did that this year and for the next 10 years, at 6% return and NO further increases in limits that's 1.2M.

Just back of a napkin estimate with future increases, because I don't want to waist the time because I'm not working 10 more years, its something like 1.7M.

BOYO!

LMFAO. Do you think every corporate executive gets paid a milly a year boyo?  Did say I worked for Google or Apple FFS.

Your post below was very informative but very few large employers will taylor retirement plans to non-CEOs.  So I don't have the all the after tax options you noted.  I do have the 401k/Roth plus other deferred comp plans.  Also, your 6% return was way too optimistic given the chit show Trump left Biden, but yes you've outlined the best possible ten years strategy.

So now that we've decided ol' Raven Fan is well on his way to a reasonable retirement, how about we talk about your LARPing as a hetero when you're in fact a flaming HOMO?  I have the post from you where you shared your favorite porn site boyo.

So you are an "executive" at a "corporation", not a real executive at a real corporation.  Got it, that's what we figured  What we consider executives in my company are worth hundreds of millions.  Forget salary, their bonuses and stock dividends are over a million each year.  Their salary is the smallest part of their income.  That's how real corporations work and how real money is made.

I think we're good RF.  We established you don't make more than everyone else here and we've established that I currently have more money than you plan to retire on in 10 years.  You'll never catch up to me because your "corporation" can't even figure out how to set up a simple retirement plan that provides all tax shelter options available.

Again, I don't need to LARP about anything like you do.  Of course you have more than $2M in retirement already and a supermodel wife...oh wait, that's all a LARP since when asked to provide a porn link you provided your favorite HOMO porn link.

And IDGAF how much you say you make cause it will be a lie and it doesn't impact me anyway.  You do you LARPer.  Not sure why lying on some obscure football board is so important to you other than your IRL life must suck real hard.

Feel bad for you boyo.

Man you have to get out of debt first.  You're on baby step #1.

65 with limited retirement contribution options might be a bit optimistic.  Good Luck though!   You might have to eat rice and beans for a while.  Be smart and save every penny.

I don't know if this Ravens dude actually makes money.  It's clear he embellished his earnings but who knows.  I read a book about 25 years ago called "The Millionaire next door", which I recommend to anyone as a good read:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Millionaire_Next_Door

I almost retired last year.  Quit my job and was coasting.  If not for expensive hobbies I may still be out of the game.  As it is, I go to work every day knowing that if I wanted I could walk away at any time, and that's a nice feeling.

Great book, you are right where you want to be being able to walk anytime you want. I’m there but a lot is in real estate so would take some time to unwind it all.

It's a pretty common mistake to think something is unattainable so you convince yourself that isn't what you really want.

I get that people like their job and they live for that. They live to work instead of working to live.  I mean you really want to be a "corporate executive" into your late 60s.  Blah.

That's ok though, we just change the term from "retirement" to "independently wealthy".  And you can keep on being an executive if that's your hobby.
