First pick of the draft and they picked a catcher ? Thoughts ?  My opinion pitching wins championships and what I would have went for. Oh well at least they will have a decent catcher to catch all the sh!tty pitches.

Depends on what you think about the system.  If this kid is another Jason Kendall, then I'm all for it.  The Pirates believe they have a lot of promising pitching coming up through the ranks relatively soon.  Keller (which I'm not sold on), still has "stuff" to be a top of rotation starter.  Maybe not the #1 they thought, but maybe a #2.  They believe Quinn Priester is the real deal and an staff Ace.  Whether that pans out or not, remains to be seen.  They also really like Brennan Malone, Cody Bolton, and Tahnaj Thomas.  All 3, plus Keller, Priester, and Brubaker who's currently on the roster, project to be top 3 rotation starters.  All could be on the ML roster by 2023/2024.  That's around the time they're probably expecting Davis to be there.  They also have 2 other guys Miguel Yajure (who's already on the ML roster and in the bullpen), and Carmen Mlodzinski who could be starters.  So, if Priester pans out and just 2 of the other 5 pan out as T.O.R. starters, they only need 2 of the rest to at least be starters to have a good rotation.  The rest may pan out to be decent relievers.  There's a chance that the entire 2024 pitching staff is made up of guys who are currently in the system. 

Now, do I expect that?  Of course not, it's the Pirates.  That said, everything I've heard about Priester says that he's the real deal.  Brubaker is a ML starter.  He may not be a staff #1 or #2, but he's at worst solid #3.  I'm skeptical about Keller.  The rest?    I agree with you that you can never have too much pitching, so I think Leiter should've been their selection.  I can understand them not taking either of the two SS's.  A catcher though is really suspect.  It's something I've come to expect from the Pirates.  But again, if he's Jason Kendall 2.0, then they made a great pick.

It worked out great for the Brewers, when they picked a catcher first. I'm sure they have no regrets at all.

Yeah, I'm thinking Rodriguez is gone soon... today or tomorrow.  I can see the Braves, Phillies, Dodgers, and Giants all being interested in him.  I could also see a few teams like the Mets, Phillies, A's, and Mariners being interested in Tyler Anderson.

190 was a terrible guess.  Bryan Reynolds was projected to lead the team with 24 (Fangraphs), and only 3 other guys were projected to hit double digits (Hayes, Moran & Polanco), and none of them were projected to hit 20.  Where were all of these HR's going to come from?
