If Titan had life TODAY, that would be truly shocking. I believe some have theorized it’s possible but highly improbable.

But that it once might have? You guys realize these places are billions of years old right? At some point they were probably all a little different, including our own planet. Look up the life cycle of stars, galaxies and solar systems for Christ’s sake.

But anyway, the point is because you have fossil fuels doesn’t mean there’s “fossils” like when you were a little kid and saw the dinosaur bones at the museum. ANYTHING that was EVER organic can create fossil fuels.

Back to the topic on hand, the wood pellets as a fuel source is awful for the environment. Not only does it mean a loss of trees in the southern US, it also takes fossil fuels to cut the trees down, process the trees into wood pellets in the factor, and most importantly to ship this fuel that is not energy dense across the ocean.

Yes, it is "renewable" except for all of the fossil fuels used to prepare this "renewable" resource.

 

They should be building nuclear plants or other truly carbon free neutral sources like offshore wind farms, not gaming the system.

I don’t disagree. They do it here in the US too. “Biomass” energy.

What I’m pushing back on is the propaganda of focusing on this as a way to attack and undermine all alternative fuel sources. That’s what the oil and gas industry, and Bert, want to do.

I’d also much rather that it came from wind farms or hydro dams. But the oil and gas industry wants it to keep coming from fossil fuels—hence the propaganda.

I am as pro hydro as you can possibly be, I love fishing the tailwaters of the Madison, Bighorn, and other rivers in the mountain west. However we are about tapped out on Hydro power in the world.

In my opinion it is the wrong way to transition to renewable energy, because while it sounds good to the uninformed, it is just as dirty as fossil fuels.  They might as well just burn their own natural gas instead of trying to fool the public that they are using green energy.

The future is in solar and nuclear with a lesser amount of wind/hydro and a tiny amount of geothermal. We need to move towards that and not these half assed ideas that are only done to sound good.

I agree. Though I’m not entirely sold on nuclear. It’s risky and you can’t put it back in the box once unleashed. But I realize there’s a chance, probably even a decent one, that I’m being far too bearish and nuclear power will be the future. It does solve a lot of problems, I freely admit.
