Poor Musk

Recommended Posts

>>Long before he became one of Donald Trump’s biggest donors and campaign surrogates, South African-born Elon Musk worked illegally in the United States as he launched his entrepreneurial career after ditching a graduate studies program in California, according to former business associates, court records and company documents obtained by The Washington Post.

….What Musk has not publicly disclosed is that he did not have the legal right to work while building the company that became Zip2, which sold for about$300 million in 1999. It was Musk’s steppingstone to Tesla and the other ventures that have made him the world’s wealthiest person — and arguably America’s most successful immigrant.

Trump Ally Elon Musk Warns of 'Necessary' Economic Collapse if Trump Elected

Musk says everyday Americans must embrace the pain if Trump gets back in the Oval Office

Elon Musk has offered a sobering preview of Donald Trump’s economic plan for America if he is re-elected, revealing that a period of intentional “temporary hardship” is on the horizon for American households. Rather than cautioning against it, Musk described this hardship as necessary and inevitable, supporting Trump’s blueprint for restructuring the economy by slashing government programs. Musk’s remarks, shared in a Telephone Town Hall organized by his America PAC, indicate that he and Trump see economic pain to average Americans as a necessary cost of their policy goals.
“We have to reduce spending to live within our means. And that necessarily involves some temporary hardship, but it will ensure long-term prosperity,” Musk stated in the call, fully endorsing the strain Trump’s policies would place on Americans. Musk’s words make it clear that the disruption is not an unintended side effect but an accepted—if not desired—outcome. The billionaire went further by responding to an X (formerly Twitter) user who anticipated a market downturn if Trump’s aggressive policies, including mass deportations and extreme deficit cuts, were enacted. The user predicted that with Trump and Musk in charge, the U.S. economy—dependent on debt and vulnerable to asset bubbles—would face a severe reaction before stabilizing under the intended austerity. Musk’s response was a simple acknowledgment: “Sounds about right.”

Trump has said he would appoint Musk to lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency,” an agency that Musk would use to “trim the fat” from government operations and, presumably, enact sweeping cuts to public programs. The department, referred to by the acronym DOGE is a nod to Musk’s favored meme cryptocurrency.

While previous leaders have avoided openly endorsing policies that might hurt working Americans, Musk’s comments reveal a different approach, where short-term pain is not only acknowledged but welcomed. Critics argue that this plan—prioritizing austerity over growth—could destabilize the economy and deepen inequality, impacting essential services for millions of families who rely on public support. But Musk and Trump’s perspective appears to frame these hardships as collateral damage in a broader strategy for “long-term prosperity.”

Meanwhile, under the Biden-Harris administration, the U.S. economy has seen record growth. This month, The Economist called the U.S. economy "the envy of the world" amid historic growth, low unemployment, and the lowest inflation of any nation in the G7. The major stock market continue to hit record highs on a near daily basis. Yet Trump and Musk want to replace this prosperity with pain.

Workers Say They Were Tricked and Threatened as Part of Elon Musk’s Get-Out-the-Vote Effort

America PAC door knockers were flown to Michigan, driven in the back of a U-Haul, and told they’d have to pay hotel bills unless they met unrealistic quotas. One was surprised they were working to elect Donald Trump.

>>

“I was in shock and disbelief,” says a paid door knocker flown to Michigan to help turn out the vote for former president Donald Trump on behalf of Elon Musk’s America PAC.

In Michigan, canvassers and paid door knockers for the former president, contracted by a firm associated with America PAC, have been subjected to poor working conditions: A number of them have been driven around in the back of a seatless U-Haul van, according to video obtained by WIRED, and threatened that their lodging at a local motel wouldn’t be paid for if they didn’t meet canvassing quotas. One door knocker alleges that they didn’t even know they were signing up for anything having to do with Musk or Trump.

The contract these door knockers signed with Blitz Canvassing, which is a subcontractor of Musk’s America PAC, says they are “expected to maintain a 17-22% engagement rate during the campaign,” which is a high target relative to the number of people who typically open their door for a stranger.

A group of out-of-state America PAC canvassers were told during a recent team meeting that if they didn’t hit their targets, which the door knocker says were more than 1,000 a week on total doors knocked, the organization would stop paying for their motel rooms. …<<

This probably could have went in my “Elon wants to fire many government employees” thread.  Honestly, this and RFK are the 2 things I fear most about a Trump presidency, but I think it’s still better than the alternative unfortunately.

I do agree that trimming the government fat would be better for the long-term, but firing that many people would likely crush the economy and the “temporary” could be several years.  I feel bad for some of the folks that think Trump will fix everything, but the reality is that high inflation and having a job is better than low inflation and not having a job (even though @RLLD seems to disagree with that)

Cool.  Then they should order Kamala into court and ask her about her illegal 25K vote buying to new homeowners and illegal 20K vote buying specifically to black men only (Opportunity Agenda for Black Men).

I'm assuming your fake outrage of Musk makes you fake outraged over Kamala too, right?  Just want to make sure you're consistent in your fake outrage.  Wouldn't want you to be, y'know, a hypocrite and liberal shill now.

You can complain about the law all you want but no offering programs from state, local or federal government as an incentive for voting is as old as the hills and not illegal.

His lottery system has no strings attached to your voter registration nor does it require you to vote for Trump.  These charges are a bigger example of election interference than Trump paying off Stormy Daniels.

No enforcement of immigration & naturalization is a federal responsibility. But I do find it amusing this campaign so obsessed with illegal immigration has thrown an illegal alien success story into the forefront of its campaign.

Eh people in my area have been accused of bribing voters with food, drink & transportation to the polls for decades. I do think it’s a good point how people can vote Dem, 3rd party or not vote,  it’s a poor gimmick.

I’m not against people running for office telling constituencies that their policies will help or even profit them. I don’t think Dems should hand out Popeyes & tea to get people on buses to vote, I’d be fine with prosecuting that even if it’s roughly $100. Trump or Harris promising future benefits from their policies doesn’t offend me in the least.

No, I'm told enforcement of immigration is racist.  Your party is all over the map with this.  Pick a stance please.

There are laws across the country that vary on this.  Some allow and don't allow all kinds of things.

Just curious... are you ok with the big promise from the Harris/Walz campaign of "preventing price gouging" (or in laymen's terms price control)?  That to me, seems a lot more "of Leninist-Stalinist-Maoist dogmatism that is highly destructive to society & global stability", than wanting to make sure the government isn't overspending or trying to get rid of wasteful government spending to ensure that the citizens aren't getting over taxed.  But maybe that's just me.

Not in my opinion, but in any event my point is it’s a federal not state responsibility. I’m not a Democrat but thank you for the reply.

No I’m not in favor of it. - Fwiw I was talking about dogmatism generally not specifically communism.

Fair enough.  I do think that the source being Biden and WaPo leave this as a "meh".  Neither have opinions or information to be shared that should have any credence given to it.

We're going to have to agree to disagree then.  I think you're vastly oversimplifying this to make it such a narrow definition to justify your stance.

I’m using the framing used by Musk & the person he was discussing it with, a forced purposeful austerity program causing a ‘severe reaction’ in the economy. There are very few comps for that.

I guess when Elon fires half of the federal government employees like @Cdub100 there should at least be some openings in landscaping, construction and at manufacturing plants following the great deportation
