Climate change nerd schooled by Jordan Peterson

Why do lefties hate him? Is he some staunch republican? Does he love Trump?

They feel he infringes on their belief that even though they personally oppose something, it is alright for others in their camp to do that something.  Like cuck in the other thread trying to explain that he personally opposes child gender reassignment, but he didn't say it was wrong, even though he knows it's wrong.  Peterson says it's wrong, and he tells you why, and makes perfect sense, and that makes libs feel stupid. And they HATE feeling stupid.

I'd trust an engineer over a climatologist.  Even a mechanical engineer.

People don't realize climatologists are the chiropractors of the scientific world.

He got on their radar because he's Canadian and several years ago the 'nooks were pushing some law about recognizing that there are more than 2 genders and it was going to be codified into some kind of "hate-speech" law where if you didn't use some non-binary weirdo's chosen term for whatever the heck they want to call themselves you could get thrown in jail.   He was a professor at the time and somehow it got in the news because for reasons I can't remember why he was asked his opinion on that and he made a very strong case against it and that made it onto Canadian local news.   That brought him attention and he's one of those people that if you ask him his opinion on something he will give you his honest answer, no matter how "controversial" that opinion may be.     It became a kind of self-perpetuating thing where the more attention he got, the more he spoke, the more attention he got, the more he spoke,  and so on until he became an international intellectual "celebrity".

After that I think that there were a lot of people, like me, who hadn't heard of him before who when they listened to him thought "this guy has some interesting and provocative takes, I'd like to hear more" and that grew his audience.     He is a fascinating guy.     Some of his stuff he goes DEEEEP into psychology and philosophy and it can get dry.    But a lot of his stuff is really interesting and makes me think.

His 1 hr interview with Tucker gives a really good idea of who he is and how he got here.   Tucker mostly just asks a couple of questions, shuts up, and let's JP speak so it's good that way.

Maybe because he's a brilliant thinker and a very interesting speaker?

You could educate yourself - there's many interviews and podcasts with him available.    His sit downs with Joe Rogen are good.    His podcasts are good but can be very dry depending on who he is talking to.    His 1 hr interview that he did with Tucker about 4-5 months ago is excellent in my opinion.    Don't worry - Tucker hardly speaks in it.   He basically just asks a couple of questions and then shuts up while JP answers.    That interview spends most of it's time going over who he is and how he got to where he is now.

The JP guy appears to be drunk, drunks like hearing themselves blab, blab, blab.

Well, that’s ‘cause there’s no such thing as climate, right? Climate and everything are the same word, and that’s what bothers me about the climate change types. It’s like, this is something that bothers me about it, technically. It’s like climate is about everything. Ok. But your models aren’t based on everything. Your models are based on a set number of variables. So that means you’ve reduced the variables — which are everything — to that set. Well how did you decide which set of variables to include in the equation, if it’s about everything? That’s not just a criticism, that’s like, if it’s about everything, your models aren’t right. Because your models do not and cannot model everything.

Rogan asked, “What do you mean by ‘everything?”

Well that’s what people who talk about the climate apocalypse claim in some sense. We have to change everything… The same with the word environment. That word means so much that it actually doesn’t mean anything. Like when you say everything, like in a sense that’s meaningless. What’s the difference between the environment and everything? There’s no difference. What’s the difference between climate and everything? Well, there’s no difference.

“So this is a crisis of everything?” Peterson asked, before he answered, “It’s like, no it’s not. Or if it is, if it really is, then we’re done, because we can’t fix everything.”

Rogan responded, “What they mean, specifically, is… what human beings are doing that’s causing the Earth to warm.”

A bunch of dumb word salad from Jordan Peterson when being interviewed by Joe Rogan the other day. Someone said it best earlier in the thread. Peterson is a stupid man's idea of a smart man.

Leftist- You’re stupid.  I went to college, you’re uneducated.

Leftist- Peterson (who got his PHD at one of the best colleges in the world and taught at Harvard) is also stupid. You’re all stupid if you disagree with me. And I’m not going to point out why, I’m just going to say he is.

Two dudes who don't understand how to read or what words mean and a dude who is probably a hero to his action figures. Being the smartest man in the bar at 3am doesn't mean you are smart or intelligent.

Speaking of "word salad"...

blah blah blah...

And not "original" in the least. Copy paste of every other post this liberal has.

There is nothing to argue against. What he is saying is so dumb and misrepresentative it means nothing. "Climate" and "everything" are the same because scientists reduced all the variables to "everything." Does he think that scientists are literally just ignoring all sense of variables that can affect outcomes and are throwing it all into one pot?

I get that Peterson sees this as a social justice issue and wants to attack it on that front and he bemoans that it is being politically driven but this is such an insipid argument in favor of that so it undercuts him badly.

Rogan: This weird idea of nuclear because of the several you know whether it's Three Mile Island or Chernobyl...there's been a few disasters."

Peterson: Yeah more people die every year from solar energy than die from nuclear."

Rogan: Who dies from solar energy?

Peterson: Guess how you die from solar?

Rogan: Sunburn?

Peterson: No you fall off the roofs when installing it...

Rogan: Oh. That's gravity right.

Peterson: Yeah gravity. And that's an example of unintended consequences. Because systems are complex and when you change them you think only good things will happen.

I thought for a fleeting second you might be interested in a decent discussion. Oh well. But Peterson does make a good point, that when there is advocacy for something, especially something drastic, the downside never gets mentioned. Like bail reform and other ridiculous policy changes.

the deaths while building the golden gate bridge were considered dying building the GG bridge, not gravity

also solar is completely ineffecient

In Sean's defense, it was a really convoluted way to reach the accurate conclusion that the models are inaccurate and therefore shouldn't be used to make decisions.

He didn't have to employ the semantic argument about how "they claim everything has an effect on climate, but they can't model everything." All you have to do is point to their terrible track record of predicting what's going to happen so far.

Yep. Even then it's a reach.
