Voltaire 5,341 Posted April 5, 2022 1 hour ago, fandandy said: I love how the argument now is that Russia is doing horrific things in a war for what many there believe to be for their very own survival instead of asking why did we get to this point? Why did NATO decide to expand east? Why was there a western-inspired coupe to overthrow Yanukovych? You cannot have it both ways. There are consequences to actions. At times, this is what they look like. Don't cry in your milk.  Where to start? Ukraine has a history of being starved/bullied by Russia. There's a deep resentment there. NATO did expand east but Ukraine wasn't a part of that deliberatly to not provoke Russia. I think you can see why they would have wanted to join. They gave up nuclear weapons for wind and fake promises. These color revolution coups were spontaneous in the oppressed world. People were fed up with their corrupt systems. If the US were fomenting them, they may have done more to help the people when they rose up, they never did, which to me indicates they were caught unaware and unprepared. Russia invaded unprovoked because Putin misses the empire the Soviet Union amassed and thought the timing was right since a potato is occupying the US presidency. If I go to another country, Hungary is pretty much the top of the list. Could be Korea or Japan but I'm not terribly interested in Asia anymore. Maybe South America... They pay well in the Middle East but I have zero interest in those cultures. My youngest daughter is eight, I'm not going there. I think Hungary would get first look if I don't return to the States. GobbleDog 999 Posted April 5, 2022 Quote 27 EU member states plan to cut use of Russian gas by two-thirds by the end of this year and then make Europe entirely independent of Russian fossil fuels by 2030. China and India will pick up some of the slack (at discounted prices), but Russia's economic outlook is bleak. My worry is Putin is replaced in the near future and the world is once again fooled into believing Russia is trustworthy. The new Russian president (dictator/mob boss) will be equally as corrupt, abusive, and power hungry.
