Ukraine - Doomsday

He destroyed them

His goal was to take the country over and then restore the Eastern block, not get all his men blown up and NATO expanded at the same time.

I wouldn’t say Russia totally lost flat out but they certainly didn’t win either.

His stated goals were to stop NATO expansion. That has obviously failed. NATO added countries.

It seems very unlikely he wanted to get into a war that killed so many of his men and drag out over years.

Yeah, he had his sights set on Finland. Good thing they joined. You know who didn’t join? Ukraine. They can’t as king as they are at war. Hmmm, I wonder if Putin will stop a war so that can happen? Ceasefire sounds like the smart move, and keeps the war going at the same time. When are you jerkoffs going to stop acting like he’s an idiot?

You think Putin wanted NATO getting bigger? Thats interesting.

Who knows if there will be a ceasefire or end to the war. My point is that Putin certainly hasn’t won. Not been a total loss either.

He also will end up with some land in Ukraine I’d bet so it’s not an absolute loss either.

I’m not sure this can be considered a win either. Ask Israel what it’s like when you occupy land where everybody hates you.

Putin has Crimea. And now a buffer between it and the west. The Crimea is where all the good stuff is.

It seems like Putin had Crimea before this latest invasion, didn’t he? And it hasn’t helped him much.

It amazes me that so many conservative/maga types want to admire Putin as some sort of genius. You guys are constantly rooting for him, want him to succeed. I just don’t get it. The guy is a stone blood killer. Why on Earth would you cheer for someone like that?

Reminds me of all the leftists in my youth that kissed Fidel Castro’s ass all the time. All these socialist types, like Maxine Waters and Bernie Sanders, would take these trips to Havana and tell Fidel how brilliant he was. It was really nauseating and embarrassing. This is the same thing.

CNN — A decade ago, Mitt Romney went on CNN and made a statement that was widely perceived as a major mistake. Time to admit Romney was correct.

“Russia, is without question, our number one geopolitical foe,” Romney, who would be the Republican presidential nominee in the 2012 race against President Barack Obama, told Wolf Blitzer in March of that year. “They — they fight every cause for the world’s worst actors.”

Obama pounced on the comment, insisting that it showed Romney was hopelessly out of touch when it came to the threats facing the US.

In the third presidential debate between the two candidates in October 2012, Obama went directly after Romney for that remark. “When you were asked, ‘What’s the biggest geopolitical threat facing America,’ you said ‘Russia.’ Not al Qaeda; you said Russia,” Obama said. “And, the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back, because the Cold War’s been over 20 years.

Fears of a Ukrainian shell famine are growing as Western military aid shows signs of faltering.

During its counteroffensive in the summer, Ukrainian forces burned through artillery shells at a rate of about 7,000 rounds a day, figures from Estonia's defence ministry show.

The Kiel Institute, which has tracked aid promised and sent to Ukraine, said in an update earlier this month that while the new US aid package was delayed to next year, the EU's commitment to supplying one million rounds of ammunition has stalled.

China is the main threat because they could actually challenge us for supremacy. Russia is a very annoying gnat that should fock off.

That said, the two of them are teaming up now, and that is a problem.

Over the years, Putin has made some poignant and reasonable assessments of the situation in the west, actually lamenting the decline and us not living up to our ideals and moral standards. I found them to be remarkable accurate. Obviously, I could never warm to him though for various reasons: lack of democratic reform, he'd been in a couple of smaller border wars, assassinated dissenters in western countries, and friends with some sh*tty international players.

Really, he's an astute observer with an outsider's take of our situation with really amazing insights that resonate. The man is an autocratic despot but he really hits themes that are compelling and to me, him and his mentor/colleague/spiritual Sherpa Alexander Dugan really hit like the 2020s version of Alexis de Tocqueville, if you're familiar.

I'm trying to find a youtube video but it's difficult to locate. What I'm looking for is maybe 5+ years old and everything I search for is in the last two.

It’s a war that you’ve been cheerleading for Putin to win since almost day one. It’s bizarre and extremely un-American.

You guys think you’re enlightened but, ironically, you’re just stupid.

The news tells me to care about Ukraine because they were on the cusp of joining the EU and maybe NATO and are essentially a junior member of the western alliance. Their being invaded by an autocrat neighbor that hates the west is a big deal. The news accurately assesses that and so presents it to me and other Americans that aren’t hellbent on sucking that particular autocrat’s dong.

Myanmar, Sudan, etc. we should care about in a humanitarian sense but the US national interest is much, much less there. Doesn’t necessarily make it right but it does make it logical, which you supposed “free thinking” focktards are unable to understand, because that’s how much Trump has messed you up in the head

I also didn’t like that we were killing lots of civilians, you know, as invaders do, like Putin. Also didn’t like that we were starting a war on false pretenses (in Iraq), you know, like Putin.

A senior Ukraine defense ministry official has been arrested for embezzling 40 million dollars relating to an artillery shells contract. He probably would have gotten away with it if we kept pumping money in there and they weren’t running low on shells. Can you imagine how much has been siphoned off before this? This guy thought no one would notice, and with good reason.

Russia not beyatching about Ukraine joining NATO is one of the few bargaining chips available at this point.

Russia has brought this all on itself when it broke the Budapest Memorandum it signed in 1993.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum

Quote

The memoranda, signed in Patria Hall at the Budapest Convention Center with US Ambassador Donald M. Blinken amongst others in attendance,[3] prohibited the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations." As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.[4][5]

The United States also pledged to help Ukraine in the event of a Russian attack.

So about the only thing that can protect Ukraine in the future is joining NATO, seeing as those Russian fockers can't honor an agreement. Putin fabricated Ukraine as some kind of threat to justify the invastion.
