I think if you actually are going to kick the FG at home, you come out and try the hard count and take the delay of game.  The defense is going to be juiced up ready to go and 5 yards means nothing on the FG.

I've never seen a QB throw it away on 3rd and 1 when he could easily slide for a 1st down. Herbert was thinking about his pain more than the game situation. That was incredibly strange.

I keep saying the NFL needs to change the kickoff rule... just back up the receiving team 5 yards and make on-sides more likely. 17% is a fairly low percentage. Back 'em up and get that up to 30% or so. The NFL would have more exciting games with that rule.
