Hardcore troubadour 14,948 Posted August 2, 2023 underwhelming. And why are you only including this year? It’s his second year. Strikes out way too much.
Gepetto 1,291 Posted August 2, 2023 He's only 23 and just figuring out the MLB. He has the tools to be great and it's starting to show this year. He raked in the minors as well. He just hit a walk off grand slam on a full count inside 102 mph fast ball the other night. He's a great defensive shortstop and the fastest base runner in the majors. But keep hating and doubting and Witt Jr will keep getting better and showing it.

I agree he was underwhelming but that was last year and before June this year. It seems to all be coming together for him now, that's all I'm saying.
Mike Honcho 5,101 Posted August 2, 2023 20 hours ago, JustinCharge said: So basically the Mets are paying up to $93mm for the top prospect in the Astros farm system and throwing in Verlander for free. His contract also included a $35 million option for 2025 that vests if he accumulates at least 140 innings in 2024, a circumstance that scared teams away. The Mets will pay $35 million out of the $58 million remaining on Verlander's deal in 2023 and 2024 and $17.5 million of his 2025 option if it vests, sources told ESPN's Jeff Passan. cmh6476 1,010 Posted August 4, 2023 Over the past week, Witt Jr. is 15/27 with 7 runs, 2 doubles, a triple, 3 HR, 13 RBI, 2 SB and a BB. And no defensive errors. If that's underwhelming, I'll take underwhelming all day long.

Just cutting and pasting something I found on a Chiefs site, from a guy that really seems to know his baseball, scouting and player development: Quote It seems that Bobby Witt took this thread's discussion about why he hadn't landed like a prospect of his caliber would be expected to land... personally. He's .304/.336/.502 with 8 HR, 35 RBI, 21R, and 13 SB since June 1. Those numbers climb to .327/.355/.617 with 6 HR, 23 RBI, 13 R, and 7 SB since July 1, which is around when that discussion really picked up. He also has drastically trimmed his K rate. The June -current numbers, projected over 150 games, would look like this: 61R/23 HR/38 SB/101 RBI July-current: 75R/34 HR/40 SB/133 RBI Yeah. He's hot right now, but we could be seeing the superstar level unlock as we watch (maybe sometimes, if it's convenient and we're not too busy).
Mike Honcho 5,101 Posted August 4, 2023 The first place Brewers only need to outscore their opponent today by 3 runs to have a positive run differential on the year. You keen do it!

I don't know that anyone is arguing with you on the point, but for us fans of the team we're still optimistic that it's just taking him time to get adjusted and will end being as was advertised by the time his career is over. Personally, I'm always the eternal optimist. So I'm still hopeful we end up with the most recognizable athlete in both of the top two major sports leagues in the world right here in KC for the next decade. There is still a chance. You can't just expect a 23 year old to step in and be the best player in the game. But it's still possible for him to end up being the best player in the game at some point in his career. I think part of it is also the small market team he plays on. There's a reason it's called flyover country. The media markets on the coasts aren't going to give near as much time to teams or players outside their own market. And the royals, before this win streak were on pace for a historically bad record. Players are stealing bases at an 80 pct clip. It’s never been easier. Consider me unimpressed with that stat anymore.

His combination of speed and power, where someone has come up with some sort of measurable stat, is putting him on pace to far exceed what Bo Jackson or Carlos Beltran ever did as a Royal. So we were told he was a mega star upon his arrival. He has not been one yet. I say he’s been underwhelming and somehow that’s turned into he sucks. Gotta love homers. Hardcore troubadour 14,948 Posted August 5, 2023 So last year, Witt had 20 hrs and 30 stolen bases. This year, Anthony Volpe of the Yankees has 14 Hr’s and 20 stolen bases so far. Think he has a chance to finish with 20 and 30 too? He’s been, dare I say, underwhelming? Because he sure has.

Mike Honcho 5,101 Posted August 9, 2023 I should mention the Brewers did it with style last night. They threw 3 bases loaded walks in the 10th without recording a strike. Pretty sure I've never seen that before.
WhiteWonder 2,679 Posted August 9, 2023 The pitching injuries continue to pile up for the Rays. It's amazing that they remain in striking distance of the Orioles. Cy Young candidate Shane McClanahan joins Jeffrey Springs and Drew Rasmussen as 2023 rotation members now done for the year. A top young pitcher in Shane Baz has been on the shelf since 2022 as has key reliever Andrew Kittredge.

Gepetto 1,291 Posted August 15, 2023 Bobby Witt Jr just hit an inside the park home run! He sprinted immediately and hauled azz around the bases. 14.3 seconds from home to home. That's the quickest in baseball since 2017 (Byron Buxton 13.89 seconds). edit: update: Witt Jr with a 4 hit night. Julio Rodriguez had a huge game for Seattle.
