Can you share some other examples in D1 and pro sports?  The only other one I can think of right now is the previously discussed Myles Garrett Big Ben incident which was 3 years ago.  The only other famous recent sucker punches in general I can think of off the top of my head are Draymond Green (punching a fellow black guy) and Rougned Odor (punching a fellow Hispanic guy).

I'm not sure I can rate it as a sucker punch coming immediately after the provocation of an elbow to the gut from Benson.  Benson should have been on alert. As I recall Jabbar paid the price of a broken hand and a record setting fine.  This was Benson's debut with the Bucks and Jabbar's debut with the Lakers.  I remember trying to hope the Bucks did all right replacing Jabbar with Benson.  I wanted it to be so as there was no choice but to hope it would be so when Jabbar left saying Milwaukee had no culture to offer a black man.  The thing was, Jabbar was right and Milwaukee got the worst of that transaction as is evidenced by Titles.

 

I am glad years later Giannis finds Milwaukee more commodious.
