MDC 7,121 Posted June 7, 2023 I’m risking my life to be in Midtown Manhattan again and the smoke runoff is like a dense fog everywhere. Silver lining is that the air pollution may keep the roving rape and murder gangs indoors.

thegeneral 2,889 Posted June 7, 2023 We have dealt with this in PNW off and on for past few years. Couldn’t really see the Sun one year for couple days, ash on your car, air quality worse than Chinese manufacturing cities. No bueno. Good look NE!

Hawkeye21 2,380 Posted June 7, 2023 Pretty much every part of the norther US has been affected by some smoke from forest fires over the last month. The NE is really being affected by it now though. It's amazing how far that smoke will travel.

Yep, though we usually get it in mid-to-late summer / early fall. The smell always reminds me of Afghanistan since they were always burning garbage over there. That's one reason why my son and his fiance have decided on a May wedding next year. They didn't want to deal with potential air quality issues screwing things up.

The Real timschochet 6,402 Posted June 7, 2023 Allstate and State Farm Insurance have announced they won’t be accepting any new policies in California due to the wildfires. How long before this spread to other states? Climate change is already having a terrible effect on our economy.

I’m saying they’ve been so bad in California the last couple of years that 2 of our major insurance companies are leaving the state. I’m saying more are going to follow. I’m saying that as climate change causes more and more extreme weather conditions all throughout this country and the world, insurance companies won’t be able to handle the cost. I’m saying we had better get off our asses and do something about this before it’s too late. If it’s not too late already.

The Real timschochet 6,402 Posted June 7, 2023 Scroll down to the past of the article where it asks why this is happening, and climate scientists will tell you: record temperatures. Only morons like Trump and some of his followers refuse to acknowledge this. The rest of us know we are rapidly reaching a crisis situation.

Is climate change to blame for the fires? While it's impossible to say that any one fire or any one season is specifically linked to an increasingly warm planet, the trends show a strong signal, said Scheller. It still doesn't sound like a realistic idea to me. It would probably end up causing some other ecological problems. Try to fix one issue and end up causing another.
