Could have been any number of things. 

Listen to recordings of sounds from the ocean at those depths. 

They looked at the timeline of events, the type of wreckage and they know it imploded. Implosion happens nearly instantaneously.

It's not something they will talk about right now, but that's a scenario that needs to be looked into and ruled out or see if it goes into another pathway. 

Who would benefit from the deaths of those onboard?  It's actually a pretty long list.

Massive cost to undergo the search and rescue. You have the estates of two billionaires in play (including the 19 year old, which removes a natural heir to one fortune). You also have the pathway of legal liability by OceanGate. Everyone who is spending tax dollars needs to justify their actions in the search and rescue. Since this is story that hit the international daily media cycle, this now impacts careers in the Coast Guard and Navy, they aren't going to leave any stone unturned. 

There will be several investigations and they will be open to all potential possibilities. It's how it works.

Footage of actual test rides, interviews with Coast Guard/lawsuit, etc. There's footage of them hearing cracking, popping, all kinds of noises that the carbon fiber hull was not suitable. Many of the people who tested it with him said there weren't any red FLAGS, but red FLARES. It was a tragedy waiting to happen, not an "accident." 

They do talk about how they took it to the Bahama's to test and it started cracking and making all kinds of noise. There's another test ride when things continually failed; computer, power, motors, etc. The one from the Bahama test was so damaged, they had to make a new hull. And that one did something similar on another test drive. 

One guy points out that once you're in there and the bolts from the outside are sealed, there's no way out until someone on the outside lets you out. 

That alone would make me say no. 

The dude running it was a nut job and didn't care for human life. Only money. Incredibly sad for the guys who died, that teenager should have never been onboard, and I think the guy knew that.

The debris they found was kind of interesting.  hopefully I didn't give you too many spoilers, there's a lot to the interviews they do with some of the people that were supporting the dives from the ship and not in the sub.

No worries.  It'll still be interesting.  I read that Josh Gates refused to do anywhere near this thing when he was offered a ride in it years before it imploded.  Sounds like we get more background on that in this documentary so looking forward to that.
