Trivia Question At The Bar (NFL Top 5 All-Purpose Yards Leaders)

Recommended Posts

Sports Trivia night and me and the GF took 3rd place, I had 3 right out of 5 on this question.  So name the top 5 and I must say one of them surprised me.

Gotta be Brian Mitchell near the top, dude played forever and was a return monster.  We actually had to change our FF rules to exclude return yards because he was too OP.

  • Thanks 1

He was the one that surprised me and I didn't think of return yards. He is 2nd on the list.

Marshal Faulk? Emit Smith?Barry Sanders?

Faulk was one of my answers and couldn't believe it was wrong. Smith is right and I got that one as well, 4th on the list.

Reggie Bush?

I looked at this recently with my brother. What is surprising is that darren sproles at #6 and 19,700 blows away reggie bush at #169 and 10,001 yards.

Wes Welker at #20 all time is another WTF.

Would not have gotten Mitchell or Jerry Rice.

Rice is an easy guess. Who is top 5 in any non-rushing, non-passing, non defensive stat of all time.

Answer Jerry Rice.

I missed Mitchell and Gore, Rice being a wr at 1 is why he is the GOAT.

Yep. Would have argued with my team on that one unless someone was really sure 😀

I did think of Frank Gore and Barry Sanders and Tiki Barber and T.O. although they're down a bit farther.

To think that Payton put up those yards in fewer seasons than the others and all with one team. That’s why he’ll always be the greatest in my opinion.

Really?  Those would probably of been my first 2 guesses.  Wasn't sure on older RBs vs newer age that caught the ball a ton as well as ran.

Jerry Rice is a no brainer.

Barry played in like 40 less games and had 3000 less total yards.  Was on pace.

I picked Rice knowing he had 22K+ receiving yards, but I didn't realize how far ahead of the next receiver he is. He is literally miles ahead of the next guy in receiving yards (over 3 miles ahead of Larry Fitzgerald). For some reason, I thought he returned punts and kicks early in his career, but he has a grand total of 6 career return yards, on one kickoff return his rookie year. If you took away his rushing yards, he'd still be #2 in all-purpose yards based on his receiving yards alone.
