Amazingly, you're not the only one who sees this; somehow every activist in New York agrees. I'd call this a sort of cultural Rorschach test, but in a Rorschach test, I can invariably re-look and see the vase or the young woman or thee bird or whatever it was that I didn't see it the first time. In this instance, I can't. Your position is utterly lost on me.

It's beyond words baffling. Incomprehensible. All I see is justifiable self defense.

The "hate" part, maybe. Maybe. Clearly, something set him off but there's no audio. Whether it was "please move, your half hour dance recital is intimidating customers" or every insult imaginable, I don't know. We'll see if witness testimony converges or diverges. Even at it's worst, it doesn't justify what OShae'd done, which was put himself in a 'play stupid games win stupid prizes' situation.

I never offered an opinion on the “Hands up don’t shoot” stuff. What I wrote at the time was that Michael Brown was a thug, but that it made no sense that, unarmed and running away from a cop, he would then change direction and charge the cop who was armed. The kids is getting railroaded into a hate crime murder by deceptive truth-allergic activists. If all you read is the newspaper accounts you're wanting to lynch this kid, but the truth is the exact opposite of what we're being told: all he did was defend himself from a beatdown.  Allegedly he'd made homophobic slurs but A) the people who make the accusation are provable liars about what happened that day. B ) These people think that calling a man "he" is a homophobic slurs. 

On a grander scale, they tell us anti-gay violence is an out of control systemic problem. When it turns out that the prime example they use to prove this features an enraged gay guy sidestepping a person trying to intercede in order to chase down a fleeing teenager through a gas station, it proves the opposite. With video cameras in every pocket in America, outside many stores, street corners, and recent model luxury cars you'd think they would have plenty of evidence of such a thing... instead they have one example and it's a proven lie. Thankfully, video evidence exists that exonerates the kid in this situation. 

Then, it further erodes, if possible to further erode the credibility if the MSM, virtue signaling political figures, and delusional message board posters shown to lie about it in order to advance an agenda. "He was stabbed while dancing." "He was trying to de-escalate the situation." "It was a hate crime." Of course they also make no mention that the kid is a Muslim for other DEI reasons. Then they pivot into a tangent conflating about legislation preventing perverts from getting access to kids. And liberals eat it up. Then you show evidence that this is not what happened at all but liberals still eat it up anyways because they desperately want to believe the lie is true.

To my knowledge, he had no weapon.  Making sure he was subdued should be enough.  Now, if he did have a knife or gun, then I missed it and am ok with making sure he was not able to use it.
