Well the Roman Republic became the Roman Empire in a slow process.  Augustus became the first emperor but the Senate was kept intact to legitimize Augustus and keep the sheep thinking it was still a republic where their vote mattered.  If you said Augustus was actually emperor, you'd be laughed at as a conspiracy theorist or a nut.  Changes were made quietly behind closed doors to give Augustus full emperor-level powers. Then slowly the veil was dropped little by little until everyone accepted it was a dictatorship.  Then the title of emperor was passed down over time to a series of thugs who ruined everything and the Roman Empire collapsed from mismanagement.

None of the terms really describe where we are going.  Our Constitution has been weakened to the point of being meaningless as the courts and the people have allowed individual and states rights to be reduced or bypassed.  The vast majority are poosies who want the feds and corporates to rule over the deplorables.  Here is where we are headed.

- People are too dumb so we need elitist to tell us what is true and what can be published, what can be stated in public, and what information we can have access to.  

- People need to be controlled, so if someone does something offensive it is perfectly OK to take about banking privileges or lose their means of making a living without any trial so they can not function normally.

- People who don't conform to community standards may be raided by the FBI and railroaded into courts where convictions are rubber-stamped.

- Federal agencies may spy on individuals private information by any means available and may obtain records from private corporations with no warrants or warrants obtain by very dubious justification.

- Under the guise of global warming, energy use can be controlled to limit the amount and type of energy which may be consumed.  

- the right to defend yourself and to own guns is hanging on by a thread, but will be gone in a generation as the brainwashing has been strong.

- What health care you recieve will eventually be rationed and control and some will be mandatory.  

I would not call the means this will be accomplished by Maxism as none of this is being done by revolution and the means is by shared methods which include:

- manipulation of public opinion by controlling the education system, media, and internet.   Many of our freedoms are being stripped willfully by a public willing to give up their rights based on some generated crisis.  

- Federal courts which have increasingly have judges who support the ever expanding role of the federal government and finding excuses to ignore the constitution.

- Alliances between federal agencies and corporations to empowering corporations to act as agents for the Feds to strip away privacy and speech rights through TOS agreement and even financially punish individuals arbitrarily without any recourse or legal process.

Our freedoms are mostly an illusion.  The Democrats have become complete brownshirts to the ruling elite and have no issues with our declining rights and freedom.  Even most Republicans are blind to what is really going on.   We have already gone off the clift and are in freefall.  Individual rights and freedom are no longer valued by the masses.  The spirit of America is dead.  Whatever you call it, it is a close cousin to fascism.

I don't buy it.  This is not communism, nor it is coming from the Soviets.  This is internal and coming from within our government in cooperation with the mega wealthy.   My post above explains it better than this article.  Blaming it on Soviets/Communism is a red herring.
