UPDATE: Purdy got concussed? - Will Start Wk8

Ouch.

SF is in the hands of Darnold?

Better or worse?

Purdy has looked bad but it really goes to show how much they rely on the combo of Mccaffery and Debo. They feed off each other and allows Auik to slide into  a complementary role while kittle works the middle. The fact that Debo is out is a really big deal and I doubt that Darnold is going to be able to fix that.

Darnold  was a good fantasy QB the first few games with the Panthers. He scores some rushing TDs too.

I wouldn't get my hopes too high, but on the 49ers, he's not a bad bye week fill in or something like that

How does that affect the play of guys like Kittle and Aiyuk with no Purdy? Is it worth exploring other options?

I don't want to get to far ahead of myself, but things are starting to line up.

I dont think Darnold was known for throwing to his TE's in the other stops along his career...... then again I dont know that hes ever had a TE with this kind of talent before either.

Kittle may take a hit in value but I am not by any means certain of this.

as for the rest... hard to say but I dont think Darnold is good enough to feed all the mouths that need to be fed in that offense.   so somebody will be the odd man out.  or everyones numbers will be down a bit (likely the latter)

Darnold is horrible, I’m going to sit Aiyuk.

Can’t trust Darnold, sitting Aiyuk isn’t what I want to do, he’s my starter, but darn can’t trust this dude Darnold.  And Aiyuk hasn’t been having a trust worthy season, he hasn’t produced a td since week one, and hasn’t been good the last three games, hard to believe that dude Darnold will change that.

I am starting DK Metcalf instead of George Kittle, I think. Who else can you start instead of Aiyuk?

Is Kittle your flex that you’re able to replace with WR Metcalf?

that would be the assumption I'd be going with.

That said, In most cases I'd probably start DK ahead of Kittle anyhow.

The bigger deal is Williamson/oline. Purdy is getting less time.

Looks like he might be active this weekend.

49ers QB Brock Purdy (concussion) is practicing for the second straight day and is on pace to be cleared form the protocol Saturday. (Source: Matt Barrows on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: The report also adds that head coach Kyle Shanahan will provide an update on Purdy soon. If Purdy is cleared, he will start for the 49ers Sunday and would be the first player to clear the protocol in the same week they were diagnosed with a concussion.

I wonder when that occurred. 49ers have to realize teams will play up to them.

I think Purdy will right the ship. Their DC needs to turn that pass rush loose. Maybe somebody challenges Bosa to start earning his $

Can players practice while in concussion protocol? I saw he practiced in full. Strange. I thought they were required to sit out practice. Oh well...:dunno:

I believe they can once they hit a certain step of the protocol. I think after that there’s one final step where an “independent” neurologist has to certify gameworthiness or some such.

I think they wear the non contact jersey while they practice.

Interesting. I never really followed the process. I guess I just thought if they thought your brain was impaired from it getting smacked they wouldn't want you running around. But that said, they are treating it like injuries and you are able to come back slowly on a schedule.

I know I had a concussion back playing high school football in one practice. It was a drill between two cones where you take on a blocker and have to tackle the RB following him. I made the hit, took down the RB, but heard a bell go off in my head on the collision, my eyes instantly just started running water as I got up, everyone around the circle cheered my tackle and hit me on the shoulder pads and on the helmet and I just wobbled my way to the back of the group to hide my confused state while the next guys were up. That was nasty. But I didn't have any further headaches or anything. Could have been age/recovery rate related. I was like 15 or so.

no, there is definitely a staged approach.   especially if its a more serious concussion.

they start with rest and no physical  activity.   once you pass that stage, then they will allow you to work out.   but if symptoms return after you start working out you revert back to stage 1.  if they dont then they will allow you to play with the non contact jersey while they do neurological tests.   I do think there is another stage in there but I forget what it is.  and at the end once you pass everything and have no concussion symptoms return they give you the green light to play.

I believe that. That 2nd INT particularly looked like he just threw it up atypically.

I would like to see a little more of Jordan Mason and 49er safeties give a little more help to Ward. They were outschemed on D by Minn last week

TE count as WR. Kelce, Andrews and Hockenson are solid usually and Waller, it seems is doing better than last season.

Waller is my only avg one more point per game then last season. I think he’s been a disappointment so far.

This news will only help Darnold's chances of being the Superbowl MVP. He needs to marinate in his greatness and be ready when the timing is right. As I previously stated on the 2023 Bold Predictions thread on August 24th........

Miami vs. SF Superbowl

Darnold MVP
