Another fail by the FBI and mental heath people. Freak should have never been allowed out after being committed to the mental health facility this summer.

As a general rule of thumb I'm against things like "Red Flag" laws that restrict a person's 2nd amendment rights, but it seems to me we should all be able to agree that someone with documented mental health issues to the point of being hospitalized should have to prove it's safe for them to possess a firearm and not the other way around.  I don't know if that would have prevented this tragedy but it does seem like common sense that would hold up in court.

Geez, only just now got a special news report. The few people I know from Maine are the sweetest kindest people I know. So scary and unexpected.

Seriously? Pandering to the made up thoughts of your experience of people in Maine?

You should get into local news as a profession.

Good thing assault rifles are still legal, it's just that everyone needs one.

Not that I want to get in to this here, but could you define "Assault Rifle" please.

They were too busy investigating parents for speaking up at school boards meetings.

I hear this all the time. More laws for folks that don't follow laws is always your solution. It's tiresome and counter productive. Bring back mental institutions, lock up forever the ones that need locked up.

Cool.  By your own definition, even though you just cut and pasted one you thought would be a gotcha, the weapons used in this incident and just about ALL incidents wouldn't apply.  In fact, the weapons described in your link are ALREADY illegal for the most part.    What's your next talking point?

Rifles that meet most of these criteria, but not all, are not assault rifles according to the U.S. Army's definition. For example:

Select-fire M2 Carbines are not assault rifles; their effective range is only 180 metres (200 yd).[19]

Select-fire rifles such as the Fedorov Avtomat, FN FAL, M14, and H&K G3 main battle rifles are not assault rifles; they fire full-powered rifle cartridges.

Semi-automatic-only rifles like the Colt AR-15 are not assault rifles; they do not have select-fire capabilities.

Semi-automatic-only rifles with fixed magazines like the SKS are not assault rifles; they do not have detachable box magazines and are not capable of automatic fire.

No they're not.  Semi auto assault rifles are legal and used in most mass shootings.

Listen bud.  I asked you for a definition.  Your definition doesn't apply to the weapon used in this and most other incidents.  Rodger posted an excerpt from your link that specifically says that the weapon suspected of being used in this incident is NOT an assault rifle.  You libs are always trying to change the definition of words.  Sorry, that's not how language works.

The bottom line is every few months when this happens, it's always the same lines, police were defunded, guns don't kill people, probably a tranny, mentally ill, FBI busy with school boards yadda yadda...

But the obvious answer is this doesn't happen in countries or states where these types of weapons aren't available.  BUT MUH GUNZ!  So people keep dying.

Hey, pal, an assault weapon is civilian, semi-automatic version of a military weapon, chum.

Again, you're wrong.  Statistically, handguns are used in most mass shootings.  And it's kind of hard to outlaw something YOU can't even define.  BTW, if you look up above I advocated for a new law that would have made it illegal for this guy to possess ANY gun.  So fock off.

We used to have an assault weapons ban, we clearly need another one.

I'm pretty sure we've had this debate several times here, but it keeps happening.

Good to see you. I don't know wtf is going on around here but threads are being deleted and locked and speculation was that you were in the middle of it and something you did may have gotten banned.

I don't rightly know what I'm talking about, just happy to see your user name and your muppet Philly mascot avatar still posting.

Bottom half of tweet

Card is a trained firearms instructor believed to be in the Army reserve stationed out of Saco, ME

According to law enforcement, Card recently reported mental health issues including hearing voices and threats to shoot up the National Guard base in Saco.  He was also reported to have been comitted to a mental health facility for 2 weeks in the summer of 2023.

If it's true that he reported mental health health issues, which included hearing voices and threatened to shoot up the National Guard base, what the fock do you do ?

I'm with those who say he should've been locked away in some type of psychiatric unit immediately. But for how long ?

Hypothetically, let's say rules/laws were in place that say anyone making those types of threats, & found to be mentally ill, will be institutionalized for no less than 2 years.

The problem is, how long till one of the doctors/psychiatrists treating him says "he's better now, he's no longer a threat" I've heard many cases of sexual predators being treated for years, being released because they were no longer 'perceived' a threat, and they repeat the same horrific crimes.

I don't believe confiscating all those style weapons would solve anything either. If they were officially banned, only those that follow the rules/laws (legally owned them) would turn them in. There would be a huge black market for all of those stolen over the years, & if some lunatic like this guy really wanted to get one, he could.

It's a real focking conundrum!

You can't even tell us what a f****** assault rifle is, but yet here you are trying to grab as many virtues as you can.  And when called out on it, all we get is but but but but but distractions...

Tell me , you f****** jackass, what constitutional right in the Bill of Rights would you like to give up? Pick one other than the second.

If you're going to make people give up a constitutional right, then you ought to get one taken away from you. I pick the first amendment for you, cuz no one wants to hear the inane s*** that comes out of your mouth on a daily basis in here.  The less anyone hears you, the better off the world will be.

Yeah, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela and a host of other countries all agree with you. They don't want their citizens killing each other. That's solely their domain. And they're really good at it.
