Who Here Eats Sardines ?

I eat them cause they are healthy but can't say I love them. Will say with some olive oil and about 5 olives with them they are kinda tasty. So who else eats them ?

I just ate a tin my own self.  I like them in mustard. 

They need to redesign the tin, though.  Too much gets stuck up under the corners, and if you try to lick it out you're liable to slice your tongue.

Full disclosure, even if I can reach all the fish, I lick the corners anyway for the mustard.   

All the while trying to avoid the peeled-back lid touching my face.  You do not dare try to pull that lid all the way off, it will flick sardine splooge everywhere.

I have a negative association with them from my youth.  My grandma served them with some other (mostly also disgusting to young me) fish as part of our Christmas Eve dinner.  We had other food which I liked and I loved those events, but those sardines, eesh... thing is I'd probably like them now.  I love love love sushi, and I've had some which I'd guess is a close cousin to sardines.  

Similar for canned tuna, utterly disgusts me.  Yet I love seared ahi.

Just had a tin that that are supposed to have come from Portugal (maybe they all do) and they were great.

Heard someone say they contain elevated levels of arsenic ... Wife didn't say I should buy more but I could hear the rat in her head getting off the couch to hit the wheel ...

Ya know, now that you say that... maybe, but I don't think so.  We had a bunch of seafood appetizers, particularly on the west coast (Ligurian Sea), so it's possible I did and didn't know.  We had anchovies though, which I like (salt cured).

If I'm going down this road, I generally opt for smoked oysters or mussels. 

 

Kippers are better than sardines.  Hell if I know the difference. 

 

But they're pretty much at the end of shopping.

My wife was digging through a cabinet for Thanksgiving stuff and found an unopened 6-pack of sardine cans.  I told her about this thread and that I wanted to try them; she said to wait until we plan to eat the whole can, because the expiration date is 2026.  That late of an expiration makes me question if it is actually food which humans should consume, but I expect that sometime in the coming months I'll try them.
