5-Points 3,390 Posted December 2, 2023 Went to vs moved to? He may be right in that more people from Florida visited California than vice versa. But one thing is for sure, more people moved out of California under his watch than ever before.

RLLD 4,143 Posted December 5, 2023 Has any media outlet fact-checked Newsome? Any at all?
OldMaid 2,129 Posted December 5, 2023 This is why statics are tricky and can be misleading. Technically, Newsome cited "per capita" which takes into account the population differences between the two states, and on that measure he is correct. Quote 2021 Census data, the latest available, and calculated that 1.16 per 1,000 Floridians moved to California in 2021 and 0.96 Californians moved to Florida that year. Would you consider that his use of the stats was at least disingenous and perhaps entirely misleading? Agree with you on statistics, politicians lie every day in this very same way. A higher percentage of Floridians moved to California than the other way around. And why wouldn’t they? California is a better place to live in every way. It’s like a fine dining restaurant: not everyone can afford to live here. But if you have the money believe me you won’t want to live anywhere else. It’s paradise on Earth. I’m extremely lucky. Agree with you on statistics, politicians lie every day in this very same way. It’s not misleading at all. Per capita is really the only way to compare the two states. You can’t compare by straight numbers because California has so many more people. (you know why that is? Because more people want to be here than any other state.) You can actually compare it both ways. What he did was use the stat that made him look better, and did not acknowledge the other because it did not. By all means discuss the totality of the situation. Works for me.

Unfortunately, that is not the real argument. The argument is that California is losing population for the first time in over 100 years. Under Newsom, California sees population decline for first time in more than century https://www.thecentersquare.com/california/article_a18c84e0-5a7a-11eb-b53a-0bbaca855b6c.html don’t be afraid to see what you see. It is misleading for Fox to ignore the fact that California has 17 million more people than Florida when choosing what stats to provide-it doesn’t tell the whole story. If you presented to me both stats I am less inclined to care about per capita, so that means I never even asked the question. I surmise that if I cared about that stat I would have perhaps called it out.

AsI understand it, the emigration of people from California is causing the loss of seats in Congress, but I need to check on that. And then also look into whether or not Florida is similarly impacted.

When talking about population, percentage based on total is irrelevant, exact numbers are what's more important. Why? Because people vote based on exact numbers. Income, is also based on exact numbers. They're not based on the relationship to the whole. Florida's population increased and California's decreased, based on direct impact. California Loses House Seat for the First Time Ever The Golden State is one of seven states that will lose a seat in the House based on population shifts, a group that includes New York, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Meanwhile, Texas will gain two seats and Colorado, Florida, Montana, North Carolina and Oregon will each gain one seat. https://news.yahoo.com/california-loses-house-seat-first-194713136.html

But those people are going to multiple places, not just Florida. So the REAL measure here is the fact that they lost so many people, regardless of destination...they are losing seats in Congress. Honestly, I think the use of the per capita metric favors Florida. If a higher percentage of Floridians are moving to California than Californian's going to Florida, implies that Florida is getting more red at an increasing rate while California is getting more blue at a slower rate.

The only thing that should matter is why they are leaving. It would be rather useful to attempt to harvest that little point. And learn why it is they feel a place like California is no longer for them. That being said, modern Liberalism is about never being wrong, even when the results pointedly suggest it. So if they were to perhaps suggest it was crime, then the Liberal response would simply be some kind of whataboustism that suggests they are wrong, intsead of careful reflection.... RLLD 4,143 Posted December 6, 2023 The way they stepped in and cleaned up prior to the arrival of the China visit indicates they know its wrong, but also that they have the ability to deal with it....but choose to allow it. I do not think these people understand the role of government.
