People are outraged over her comments because both major parties and the media establishment universally condemn Hamas and rape in general so it really doesn’t even need to be said. Many members of both parties and the media are either okay with the murder of thousands in Gaza if not outright celebrating it like you see at the GC. So I give her credit for condemning that too. Fnord 2,264 Posted December 5, 2023 I'm younger than you, Peenie, but still a Gen Xer. For the purpose of this thread, I'm going to differentiate rape and sexual assault. When I was growing up in the 80s and coming of age in the early 90s, rape was rape, but that's about it. Rape was having intercourse with a female against her will. No one was okay with that. No meant no. My friends and I knew and abided by that. Most other stuff was fair game. Sexual harassment and what we would now call variations of sexual assault were rampant, but it was just not acknowledged as such. In the immediate aftermath of metoo, some of my friends and I talked about the things we'd done and seen. It was kind of a reckoning where we acknowledged that some of the shlt we were a part of was borderline behavior, at best. But at the time, it was just part of growing up. HellToupee 1,775 Posted December 5, 2023 Our border situation is helping bad hombres do their thing. Disgusting and needs to stop Quote ‘Rape tents’ and sexual violence toward migrants plague Darién Gap, nonprofit says by: Sandra Sanchez Posted: Nov 25, 2023 / 06:49 AM CST Updated: Nov 25, 2023 / 06:50 AM CST McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) — Hundreds of asylum-seekers have been sexually assaulted and violated while trying to cross the treacherous Darién Gap jungle of Panama while en route from Colombia to the Southwest border, according to a new report by Doctors Without Borders. The nonprofit, also known as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), reports treating nearly 400 victims of sexual violence so far this year in the Darién Gap — a 60-mile stretch of mountainous jungle linking Colombia in South America to Central America. Many victims are children, and some are assaulted in “rape tents,” the agency said Tuesday. In October, Doctors Without Borders reported assisting 107 victims of sexual abuse, including 59 in one week. Three of the rape victims were ages 11, 12 and 16, the organization said. The group is asking governments in the region to ensure there is enough law enforcement to prevent sexual violence against migrants in the Darién. This comes after U.S. officials along with those of Colombia and Panama in April announced a campaign to slow migration through the Darién Gap. It has not, however, and agencies like Doctors Without Borders report an increase in asylum-seekers, as well as victims passing through the dangerous region. “Sexual violence has consequences for people’s physical and psychological health, such as sexually transmitted infections that can affect women’s fertility if not treated in time,” MSF medical coordinator Carmenza Gálvez said. “It can expose them to HIV infection, with the consequent risk of infecting others. It can cause physical trauma, unwanted pregnancies, social isolation, feelings of guilt, recurrent thoughts about the events experienced, depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, insomnia, and the risk of substance abuse, and it increases the risk of facing sexual violence in the future.” Part of the violence in the Darién Gap includes armed bandits who kidnap and rob asylum-seeking migrants. Then others beat them when they do not produce money, and many times victims are raped. MSF says rape tents are “set up for that purpose.” “They beat me on my legs with a bat, because those of us who had no money were beaten,” a victim from Venezuela is quoted by MSF. “Those who said they didn’t have any money, but when searched were found to have some, were hurt even more. They said, ‘Oh yes, she has some money,’ and they raped them. I saw many people raped. I saw them left naked and beaten. One, two, or three of them grab you and rape you, and then the next one comes and rapes you again, and if you scream, they beat you.” Migrants, mostly Venezuelans, walk across the Darien Gap from Colombia into Panama hoping to reach the U.S. on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022. (AP Photo/Fernando Vergara) Men who try to protect victims often are injured and some sexually assaulted. “Some young men were also beaten and thrown onto the ground for trying to defend the women,” said the Venezuelan woman whose identity MSF is withholding for her protection. “They killed a boy in front of us with a shot to the forehead.” “They say it is their land, that you have to respect it, and that whoever passes through there must pay. And if you pay or don’t pay, they do it anyway. They’ll abuse whoever they want. They have even raped men,” she said. Gálvez says sexual assault victims also are stigmatized by communities, other migrants and even their families. “Not all people who experience sexual violence receive timely attention due to the stigma against victims surrounding this form of violence, threats from perpetrators, lack of recognition of forms of sexual violence, and the fact that people do not feel safe asking for help,” Gálvez said. “In addition, there is the fear that reporting the crimes may delay their journey north.”

HellToupee 1,775 Posted December 5, 2023 Some interesting numbers….. Quote Survivors of Color — Prevalence Rates Sexual Assault Statistics and Facts Due to limited research on sexual assault, including parameters by race, gender, sexuali orientation, etc. the following statistics are primarily focused on cisgender women of color. Additionally, we must note that some studies use different language and measures to describe different races. For instance, some studies organized Native American women as “American Indian or Alaska Native,” grouping different communities as one. This could also be seen in the statistics of Latinx women. Under the study parameters the “Hispanic/Latina” group includes White Latinas, but most likely exclude Black Latinas. This study does not give clear parameters of race and includes White Hispanics and Latinos as one category. There are limited studies that focus on sexual violence against trans women of color, and similarly little research about sexual assault against men of color and LGBTQ people of color. If you are a survivor of color and your identity intersects with other marginalized groups, such as LGBTQ, undocumented, low income, etc. please view those resources here in addition to those below. While 80% of rapes are reported by white women, women of color are more likely to be assaulted than white women. Prevalence rates of rape of women by race in the United States: Asian/Pacific Islander: 6.8% Hispanic/Latina: 11.9% White:17.7% Black: 18.8% American Indian/Alaska Native: 34.1% Mixed Race: 24.4% Sexual assault in K-12 educational settings against trans people of color: Asian/Pacific Islander: 17% Black: 15% Native Americans: 24% Multiracial: 18% The 2010 National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Study* found the prevalence rates of rape, physical violence, and/or stalking against a person by an intimate partner in their lifetime by race in the United States: *Study had a disproportionate sample size by race, white people overwhelmingly made up the participants in the study. Women Asian/Pacific Islander: 15% White: 24.8% Black: 29.1% American Indian/Alaska Native: 37.5% Hispanic/Latinx: 23.4% Mixed Race: 30.2% Men Asian/Pacific Islander: 3% White: 7.5% Black: 12% American Indian/Alaska Native: 12.4% Hispanic/Latinx: 7.4% Mixed Race: 9% African American Women For every Black woman that reports her rape, at least 15 Black women do not report. Approximately 60% of Black girls experience sexual abuse by age 18. According to a 2014 study, about 22% of Black women reported being raped and 41% experienced other forms of sexual violence. Black women students in various academic settings who reported experiencing rape: 16.5% in a high school sample and 36% in a college sample. Latinas Approximately 7.9% of Latinas will be raped by a spouse, boyfriend or ex-boyfriend during their lifetime. Married Latinas are less likely than other women to immediately define their experiences of forced sex as rape and terminate their relationships; some view sex as a marital obligation. Asian/Pacific Islander Women According to a compilation of studies, between 21-55% of Asian women report experiencing intimate physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime. API women tend to report lower rates of rape and other forms of sexual violence than do people of color from other racial backgrounds. According to a study, Filipina women who were born in the US or immigrated before adolescence were more likely to experience physical and sexual violence (but not stalking) compared to Filipina women born outside the US or immigrated as adults. In a 1995 study of Japanese immigrant and American women, 52% reported having experienced physical violence, and 29.9% experienced sexual violence at the hands of an intimate partner during their lifetime. In a study of Indian and Pakistani women, Indian and Pakistani women born in the US or who had immigrated before adolescence were more likely to experience physical violence, sexual assault, and stalking compared to those born outside of US or immigrated post adolescence. Native American Women The U.S. Department of Justice estimates that 1 of 3 Native American women will be raped or sexually assaulted in their lifetime. Native American women are 2.5 to 3.5 times more likely to experience sexual assault compared to the statistics of all other races. The National Violence Against Women Survey found that 34.1% of Native American women report rape in their lifetime. One study found that more than a quarter of American Indian and Alaskan Native women reported being raped. About 9 in 10 Native/American Indian victims of rape or sexual assault were estimated to have had assailants who were of a different race. 92% of Native/American Indian girls who have had intercourse reported having been forced against their will to have sex. 44% of Indian Health Service emergency rooms reported not having an accessible protocol, or trained personnel in place for sexual assault. According to a 2010 study, US attorneys declined to prosecute 67% of sexual abuse, homicide, and other violent crimes against Native women. One study found that HIV prevalence rates of gay men by race is: White: 3% Latino: 7% Black: 16% This is particularly important because people who may be sexually victimized by a same sex partner could be at risk for contracting HIV/AIDS as well. 53% of LGBTQ people of color are victims of hate crimes, with the majority of those victims being trans women of color. Trans People of Color Facts: 79% of victims of anti-LGBTQ hate crime murders are people of color, with 82% being trans women of color in 2009. Of the murders of gender nonconforming people, 45% of victims are people of color. Transgender people of color are six times more likely to experience police violence compared to their white transgender counterparts. 32% of Black transgender people report being sexually assaulted while in police custody or jail. 13% of Black transgender people experience sexual violence at the workplace. HellToupee 1,775 Posted December 7, 2023 Might as well place this here Quote Sean Combs Accused of ‘Gang Rape’ of 17-Year-Old in New Lawsuit Wed, December 6, 2023 at 12:09 PM EST The 2023 Met Gala Celebrating "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty" - Arrivals - Credit: Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic Sean Combs, his longtime lieutenant Harve Pierre, and a third unidentified man allegedly “gang raped” a 17-year-old girl inside Combs’ recording studio in Manhattan in 2003, after the high school student was trafficked across state lines and plied with “copious amounts of drugs and alcohol,” an explosive new lawsuit filed Wednesday alleges. The new Jane Doe plaintiff — the fourth woman to accuse Combs of sexual assault in three weeks — alleges the men took turns raping her in a bathroom at Daddy’s House Recording Studio when she was in high school and Combs was 34 years old. More from Rolling Stone Who Are The Men Now Exposing Diddy, Really? Jonathan Majors Threw Glass Objects and Had 'Violent Temper,' Ex Testifies Diageo Begs Judge to Block 'Toxic' Diddy From New Ads, Cites Three Sexual Assault Lawsuits Combs vehemently denied Doe’s allegations in a statement issued shortly after the lawsuit was filed. “Enough is enough. For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy. Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth,” Combs says in the statement to Rolling Stone. The new lawsuit alleges Jane Doe was out with a friend at a lounge in the Detroit area two decades ago when Pierre singled her out, complimented her appearance, and insisted he was “best friends” with Combs. Pierre purportedly told the teen that Combs would love to meet her, and called Combs on his phone so the music mogul could personally invite her on an impromptu trip to New York aboard a private jet. The 14-page complaint alleges the private jet eventually transported the teen to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, where a waiting SUV whisked her, Pierre, and the third unidentified man to the studio where Combs was finishing up work with a recording artist. The filing, obtained by Rolling Stone, features multiple color photos allegedly taken inside Daddy’s House Recording Studio that night, including one where the teen is sitting on Combs’ lap. The filing claims that the teen was fed a “copious” amount of intoxicants as Combs, Pierre, and the third man hit on her “incessantly” and groped her body. As the teen became so inebriated that everything started to “blur,” Combs allegedly led her to a bathroom, removed her skirt and underwear, and penetrated her from behind with his while she “hung over the sink,” the lawsuit filed in the Southern District of New York states. “Ms. Doe did not consent to having sex with Mr. Combs, but he continued thrusting. At some point, Mr. Combs turned Ms. Doe around to face him. He told her that he could not orgasm and asked her to squeeze his nipples as hard as she could to help him ‘get off.’ He then turned her back around and continued to rape her,” the lawsuit alleges. jane doe sean combs lawsuit The lawsuit, which includes a “trigger warning” in bright-red letters on its cover page, alleges the teen was slipping in and out of consciousness when she looked up in the mirror above the sink and realized the unidentified man from the plane ride had replaced Combs and was now raping her from behind. According to the filing, Combs was watching the assault from a chair just outside the bathroom. Doe alleges the unidentified man ignored her pleas to stop, but eventually got out of the way so Pierre could take a turn. She claims Pierre first subjected her to “nonconsensual vaginal sex,” and that he finished by “violently forcing her to give him oral sex.” “Ms. Doe remembers that Mr. Pierre was sweaty and that she had difficulty breathing,” the lawsuit alleges. “When Mr. Pierre finished, he left Ms. Doe in the bathroom alone. Ms. Doe fell into the fetal position and lay on the floor. Her vagina was in pain.” Once the teen “regained her bearings” enough to walk with some assistance, she was taken back to the airport and flown back to Michigan, the lawsuit that also names Daddy’s House Recordings and Bad Boy Entertainment as defendants says. She has “very limited recollection” of the return flight and “only remembers being in her car sometime early in the morning,” it states. The lawsuit further claims Combs and his associates spent a significant amount of time in Detroit, and that Combs had many connections in Michigan — primarily the Black Mafia Family, “a drug trafficking and money laundering operation that is rumored to have seeded Bad Boy.” (Attempts to reach Pierre were not immediately successful Wednesday.) Lawyer Douglas H. Wigdor filed the new lawsuit on behalf of the teen after he previously represented R&B singer Casandra “Cassie” Ventura in her bombshell Nov. 16 complaint against Combs that accused him of serial sexual assault and trafficking. Cassie alleged Combs raped her, forced her to have nonconsensual, drug-fueled sex with other men while he watched, and “often punched, beat, kicked and stomped” her. The pair announced a settlement one day later. Combs’ lawyer said the pact was not an admission of guilt. “Just so we’re clear, a decision to settle a lawsuit, especially in 2023, is in no way an admission of wrongdoing,” Combs’ lawyer Ben Brafman said in a statement to Rolling Stone. “Mr. Combs’ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims. He is happy they got to a mutual settlement and wishes Ms. Ventura the best.” Wigdor started the latest lawsuit from the new Jane Doe by invoking Cassie’s case. He alleged that Ventura’s claims were quickly corroborated by others and acted as a catalyst for more accusers to speak up in solidarity. He wrote that it was “triggering” for Doe to read Cassie’s allegations of being forced to have sex with other men against her will, but that she now understands “she too had been sex trafficked and that Mr. Combs’ behavior in forcing women into nonconsensual sex was not an isolated incident or unique only to Ms. Ventura.” In a statement to Rolling Stone, Wigdor alleges Combs, Pierre, and the third unidentified defendant “preyed on a vulnerable high school teenager as part of a sex trafficking scheme that involved plying her with alcohol and transporting her by private jet to New York City where she was gang raped.” He says “the depravity of these abhorrent acts has, not surprisingly, scarred Doe for life.” The lawsuit alleges Doe suffered “monetary damages, physical injury, pain and suffering, and serious psychological and emotional distress, entitling her to an award of compensatory and punitive damages.” Pierre, who met Combs at Howard University before working for him at Bad Boy Records, was the subject of yet another lawsuit filed under the Adult Survivors Act on Nov. 21. An unidentified executive assistant alleged Pierre groomed, harassed, and sexually assaulted her on numerous occasions in 2016 and 2017. (Pierre did not respond to a request for comment on the complaint.) The new Jane Doe lawsuit filed Wednesday was brought under a New York City measure called the Victims of Gender-Motivated Violence Act, legislation from the City Council that created a two-year “lookback” window for civil claims that previously fell outside the statute of limitations. The measure applies to claims of gender-motivated violence inside the city’s five boroughs only. It expires on March 1, 2025. The three prior lawsuits against Combs were filed under the state’s Adult Survivor’s Act, which expired last month. After Cassie’s lawsuit, two more women stepped forward on Thanksgiving Day with similarly disturbing claims against Combs. The second accuser alleged Combs drugged and sexually assaulted her when she was a Syracuse University student in 1991. The woman claimed Combs filmed the incident and showed the video to others in an act described as “revenge porn.” Through a rep, Combs denied the allegation. “This last-minute lawsuit is an example of how a well-intentioned law can be turned on its head. (This) 32-year-old story is made up and not credible. Mr. Combs never assaulted her, and she implicates companies that did not exist. This is purely a money grab and nothing more,” the spokesperson said. The third lawsuit alleged Combs and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall took turns raping a plaintiff and her friend following an event at Uptown Records in the early 1990s. The plaintiff claimed that days after the alleged rape, Combs showed up at the home where she was staying and turned violent: “He was irate and began assaulting and choking Jane Doe to the point that she passed out,” the complaint alleged. “These are fabricated claims falsely alleging misconduct from over 30 years ago and filed at the last minute,” a Combs spokesperson said of the third accuser. “This is nothing but a money grab.” Though Combs has denied any wrongdoing, he stepped down from the chairmanship of his media company Revolt last week, and reportedly was dropped by the Harlem charter school he co-founded. Liquor giant Diageo, meanwhile, is asking a judge to block Combs’ request for a court injunctionthat would allow him to use incoming marketing dollars to splash his face on advertising for DeLéon Tequila. Diageo said such a campaign would be “devastating” for the brand

Yesterday, Reebok announced it is dropping Ross as a face of its Classics line."While we do not believe that Rick Ross condones sexual assault, we are very disappointed he has yet to display an understanding of the seriousness of this issue or an appropriate level of remorse," the sportswear firm said in a statement. "At this time, it is in everyone's best interest for Reebok to end its partnership with Mr Ross." This is a major victory for the women's rights group UltraViolet, which led the protest over one of Ross's recent song lyrics. More than 72,000 people signed a petition condemning Ross's verse on the Rocko song U.O.E.N.O. "Put molly all in her champagne, she ain't even know it," he rapped on the track. "I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain't even know it." Molly is a nickname for MDMA, a common date rape drug. While Ross apologised "for the lyric interpreted as rape", he also argued that critics were misinterpreting him. "The term 'rape' wasn't used," he said. "You know I would never use the term rape in my records … [Besides,] in reality some people do these things, and shouldn't it be brought to light so young women can protect themselves?!" "Because of the type of attraction the record has as far as like radio and all over the country … it puts me in a position to where I have to change it," Rocko told Hot 97. HellToupee 1,775 Posted December 7, 2023 It appears Combs is going down like Cosby Quote https://slate.com/culture/2023/11/sean-combs-lawsuit-not-surprised-tupac.html The Horrible Lawsuit Against Sean Combs Took Many People by Surprise. Not Me. I’ve been waiting for years for the other shoe to drop. BY JOEL ANDERSON NOV 22, 20235:45 AM Shareif Ziyadat/Getty Images for Sean “Diddy” Combs The set of It Is What It Is—a sports talk show hosted by Harlem rappers Cam’ron and Mase—is normally a pretty raucous place. But in late September, a long-unanswered question between the longtime friends brought all of their profane mischief to a halt. “When you had your record deal,” Cam’ron said, turning toward Mase, “why did you take me to Biggie Smalls and not Bad Boy?” For context: In the mid-1990s, Mase was an artist on Bad Boy Records, the label founded by hip-hop producer and mogul Sean “Puffy” Combs. That label was soon truly elevated by platinum star Christopher Wallace, known globally as “The Notorious B.I.G.” and, more colloquially, as “Biggie Smalls.” Mase’s friend Cam’ron had yet to release a studio album, but he was making noise as an underground artist, and he seemed destined for stardom too. All these years later, this was apparently the first time they’d ever broached the subject. After a long pause, Mase attempted an answer: “Man, it’s almost going to bring me to tears to say this. Being that I saw you as such a good friend, I wanted to put you with somebody I knew would …” “Don’t have me on here crying and ,” Cam’ron said. Mase powered through: “I knew Biggie would do right by you.” The emotional moment was particularly notable because of what had gone unsaid between the friends: that Combs was someone who would not do right by his artists—that he was to be avoided. That story came to my mind last week, when Combs was revealed to be facing a federal lawsuit filed by the former R&B singer Cassie, who accused him of rape and of abusing and harassing her and her associates over more than a decade. I am currently watching the documentary Victim/Suspect and how quickly women who DO report these crimes walk in a victim and out as the suspect - meaning that they are immediately questioned as is if they were in the wrong or are filing a false report. Even more so if the perp they are accusing is someone with stature or clout in the community (even if it's a person impersonating a police officer themselves). It's really truly frightening for women. Reading some of the "Oh, yeah...some of that was totally done!" and being so nonchalant about it...it's maddening and makes me sad if these people have any females in their lives. peenie 1,915 Posted December 7, 2023 Wow! You guys saw this story before I did! Quote Sean “Diddy” Combs was accused in a lawsuit on Wednesday of gang-raping a 17-year-old girl in 2003, marking the fourth sexual assault allegation lodged against the producer in recent weeks. The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe, alleges that she was flown on a private jet from Michigan to Combs’ recording studio in New York, where she was raped by three people, including Combs and Harve Pierre, the president of Bad Boy Entertainment. Now I’m going to go out in a limb and say that, I bet, they didn’t beat her and that she was coerced and seduced into sex such that at the time she likely, like my friend felt, that she wouldn’t be seen as a victim because back then, IMO, she may have been seen as willing or that those high powered men would’ve somehow not been faulted due to the era. I think the same reason is why many women stayed silent until years later when the same thing happened with Bill Cosby. I think today we are clearer about seeing this as rape where before it was seen as seduction or manipulation. I mean, this is why I’m asking. I am not a man and I wonder if men think women like it or is it that they’re fully aware it’s rape or force and enjoy it or simply don’t care. I think it’s easy to claim that it’s obviously rape today but these types of cases were rare back in the 80’s. I recall a Kennedy being acquitted of rape that very well would’ve seen him convicted if tried today.

Is there a way to handle these without assuming guilt of the person they are accusing? We've seen lives destroyed because women nowadays know that simply regretting sleeping with someone they can turn into a rape allegation. Now, I'm not saying all women do this, but there has to be a way to question the accuser and the accused without presuming guilt, no?

peenie 1,915 Posted December 7, 2023 Just read the William Kennedy Smith incident and this should prove that women were simply not believed unless obvious violence took place: Quote The incident began on the evening of Good Friday, March 29, 1991, when Smith, then 30 years old, was in a bar (named Au Bar) in Palm Beach, Florida, with his uncle, Senator Ted Kennedy, and his cousin Patrick J. Kennedy. There, Smith met Patricia Bowman, a 29-year-old woman and another young woman at the bar. According to a police affidavit by investigating police officers who interviewed Bowman, Smith asked for a ride back to a nearby house owned by the Kennedy family. Smith and Bowman then walked along the beach. Bowman told police that Smith then violently raped her. At about 4:00 am, she called two friends who retrieved her from the Kennedy compound and took her first to their home and then to her own home, where Bowman called a rape crisis center. A few hours later, she reported the incident to the police and was taken to a hospital for a rape kit examination, which documented sperm in her vagina, complaints of severe pain, and bruising. At trial, Smith said that he and Bowman had engaged in sex, but it had been consensual. Although three women, including a law student and a medical student, were willing to testify that Smith had sexually assaulted them in incidents in the 1980s that were not reported to the police, their testimony was excluded on the grounds that the pattern of behavior reported was not similar enough in its details to the Bowman case. When Bowman testified, her face was hidden by a large dot, but she chose to go public with her identity later. Smith was acquitted of all charges. It took the jury less than 75 minutes to reach a not guilty verdict.
