I would say Walz's desire to restrict free speech is a threat to democracy.  Whether or not he could effect such a change at the national level, I don't know.

Did you click through the other links?  There are other examples.

Well I sure would hate to see Tim walz cancel the first amendment, so maybe someone should take matters into their own hands.

Sorry, I made the mistake of thinking you wanted to have a serious discussion about Walz and his opinions on free speech.  Duly noted. Carry on, troll.

Oh you want to have a serious discussion?  Ok. Tim walz does not want to repeat the first amendment.  Tim walz can't repeal the first amendment. So anything you say about this is bogus.  Prove me wrong.

@jerryskids I actually agree with the CATO opinion piece you linked, and disagree with Walz on the question of restricting free speech- in terms of general principles.  Nonetheless I regard your statement that Walz is a threat to the 1st Amendment as an exaggeration. There ARE specific instances where it might be OK to curtail speech, as Oliver Wendell Holmes famously pointed out. This is a complicated issue IMO with lots of nuances. I don’t fear Walz or any Democrat as a threat to democracy.

I DO think Trump is somewhat of a threat to democracy- not quite at the level some liberals do but a threat nonetheless. But that’s a different issue.

If the Twitter files taught us anything it’s that the left is perfectly ok with fascist free speech restrictions as long as it benefits their side and, will completely ignore the uncanny alliance of academics, journalists, intelligence operatives, military personnel, government bureaucrats, NGO workers and tech companies.

There’s nothing wrong with military contractors like Mitre being part of the Aspen Institute's "Information Disorder" report along with NGO and academic colleagues.

Listen I really don’t care what we call these people so long as we don’t return to Trump’s policies. There’s a new film coming out about how awful they were the first time around; this time they will be worse.

I get that undocumented immigration worries people. I get that a lot of folks are scared about the costs, that it’s out of control, etc. But separating families? Rounding up millions of people? Is that truly who we are? I hope not.

Separation is not the goal and never has been.  Separation of families was a necessity thrust upon us by the overwhelming surge of migrants.  The shear numbers forced us to build temporary camps.  Camps in which it would be dangerous for minors to mingle with adults, some of those adults being predators, trafficers, and generally violent.  We could not protect the minors if intermingled with adults so we gave them their own facilities.  Yes, some were not reunited or only slowly reunited with their parents.  This was and is due to poor or no documentation by the parents and the large number to be processed.  This was the migrant's choice, not our goal.  I note that the Biden/Harris regime has continued this and has lost tens if not hundreds of thosuands of children in their more human use of the bureaucracy.  I note that separation also began before Trump.  One might conclude that uncontrolled, overwhelming migration which overwhelms our capacity is to blame.  One might, but you don't.

as for rounding up millions.  We round up millions of americans every year.  It is called law enforcement..

I strongly disagree with you on both points. On the first point these people weren’t separated out of any humanity- just the opposite. It was deliberate cruelty designed to make people afraid to come here. Completely wretched and unamerican. Watch the movie.

Second, law enforcement doesn’t “round up” anyone. They arrest individuals who have committed crimes. They don’t arrest whole groups of people. That’s the tactic of dictatorships not this country.

Enjoy your day in the high country. I am off to Pittsburgh to see the Steelers.

When actual Americans are free from conditions that are “wretched and unAmerican”, people may give a fuk about other countries’ citizens. But I’m sure, since we are sucking at handling migrants and our own citizens issues, the liberal stance is to accomplish both at once, right?  Sounds like a sound plan.

They arrest whole groups of people that have committed a crime. Except California. Stuff is free there.

I really don’t care if you give a fuk about it or not, (though if you don’t I’m sad for you.) Forcibly separating families in order to scare people from coming here is wrong. It’s objectively evil, and nothing you write can ever justify it.

Are you capable of discussing anything without your dramatic spin on everything?  F your illegals.  You don't do anything for them except underpay them illegally and dodge taxes while you try not to F up the company your dad handed you.

Is it wrong?  Maybe there should be inherent risk when you enter a country (or stay in one) illegally.  Look... if you can keep the families together as you remove them from the country, great. But why should we be going out of our way to make sure of that? I am a generally compassionate person but I totally understand a lot of American's being tired of our country putting other countries first.

-----------------

slightly different note,

I have a friend who dates an illegal Brazilian. I know exactly how she got to the US and exactly how she stayed, and of course... why she can't travel now. Since she came here, she has been able to get her half brother here, and she is working on getting her daughter (23) here as well. It's an absolute shame this stuff is allowed to happen.

When people who defend this claim that these people are not taking jobs from American citizens, it's pure BS.  This woman works as a hair stylist, paid under the table of course. If she was not in the country, and could not be paid less money under the table, there are plenty of legal woman who would love to have that job. Where this woman happens to live, there is a huge Brazilian population, many here illegally and looking for American men to marry.

Real Tim can’t think of any good reason to separate a child that shows up at the border form the person they showed up with.  Good thing Harris/ Biden did away with DNA testing of kids so there wouldn’t be an inconvenient revelations. Now he’s making excuses for easier child trafficking. You are pure garbage Tim.

Very good interview here with a pair of posters, one Republican one Democrat:

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2024/10/05/what-the-polls-are-really-saying-00182588

They go inside the numbers with good and bad news for both parties. The consensus seems to be that Harris is going to win, but that Republicans will win the Senate to keep her in check. I think that’s right.

The people pimping Liz and D!ck Cheney as some type of win care what Antonio Brown thinks. Not a single person in this country is saying “You know I was going to vote for Trump but now that f’ing Cheney has endorsed the I’m gonna vote for her.” What should worry you instead is black men hate Kamala.

Also, this - 🤣🤣 reminds me of the cucks that post here all day.

Lots of Steelers fans here in downtown Pittsburgh but also a lot of Cowboy fans walking around. Just visited the Andy Warhol museum and it was crowded with both.

One main impression I am getting from my visits this week to Philadelphia and Pittsburgh: people here are sick to death of this election. Trump and Harris are everywhere, you can’t escape it. I imagine the folks here are probably proud of the fact that in all likelihood they get to decide this thing for the rest of us but I also think they’ll be happy when it’s finally over.

Liz isn’t changing any votes from Trump to Harris; that’s true. But I do think she might cause a few conservatives who can’t stand Trump but we’re going to simply refuse to vote to vote for Harris instead.

Kamala Harris told Liz Cheney, “I also want to thank your father, Vice President Cheney, for his support and for what he has done to serve our country."

Cheney is an unrepentant war criminal whose "service" was dedicating his career to waging wars of aggression. And, when he was in office, the Democratic Party called him Darth Vader and now all of a sudden he’s their hero. For phucks sake they made a movie about how friggin awful of a person he is.

You’re pathetic

I know it's all fun and games on this site but, imagine meeting a white male in public that actually admits he's voting for Harris\Walz. Seriously, imagine it.

In the everyday world, it simply didn't exist.

Next time you argue with somebody on this site about this election, remember that. These are white middle aged men who are voting for Harris. These are the most pathetic men in US history, not really a close second... :(
