Question about the WNBA vs Women's Softball

The WNBA is an obvious money loser. It is estimated that they have lost 280 million in the 28 years it has existed. The NBA subsidizes them because in the eyes of the NBA it gets basketball on the screen during times it would not normally be. In that same way of thinking why does the MLB not subsidize a pro softball league? The leagues are not far off when it comes to how much each team makes. Both in the 300 million a year. Why not make it so a form of baseball is on all the time? Softball is pretty entertaining and the women actually look like women,,,most of the time.

Softball no.  The MLB would be better off financially if they broadcasted more minor league games.    Softball isn't close to baseball.

As a lifelong baseball fan I absolutely disagree. Softball is one of the most watchable female sports and is very close to baseball.

Softball is great and will generate money all on it's own.  It doesn't need and won't need money from MLB.  There are professional independent teams as well as leagues, popping up.  Before long, they'll all merge and have one big league.  When things happen organically, it works better because they don't grow too fast, but at the right pace.  I'll say that by 2030, there'll be a professional softball league, with a major network behind it, with over 12 teams... and they'll be making a profit and steadily expanding.

Softball isn't to baseball like the WNBA is to the NBA.  It's its own animal that is fun to watch.  The WNBA is like watching a watered down version of the main course.

@supermike80 is right about one thing, MLB is better off investing in MiLB.  They do now to some extent.  If you buy the MLB.tv package, you get MiLB games.  MLB should go a tad further and put MiLB games on MLB Network, instead of The Bad News Bears, A League of their Own, Major League 1, 2, or 3, even if they're replays.

MEN do watch. Women's sports does not have a male viewership problem. It has a female viewership problem. This is the reason why the WNBA bleeds money. It can not count on the support of other women.   The majority of WNBA fans are male. It is something like 70-30 male and SKILL is quite literally THE reason why men prefer to watch (certainly not the womens looks) They can't play above the rim and most of us can't either so they have to do basic skills that most men can look at and relate to. Basic fundamentals.  I can not dunk but I can do a layup or a jumpshot

I coached girls softball at Mell Ott park for almost ten years.As they got older, the competition was fawking fierce at some of the other playgrounds. I was going up against coaches that coached HS softball and weren’t using playground hand me down equipment. I knew I needed an 

edge. There was a mom who signed her daughter up from the beginning with my daughter, her name was Trinity. I know her mom as, Butterface. Incredible body, smart and funny, and was always close to me. Shadow like. Anywho, I’m giving my girls an after game pep talk and giving them tomorrow’s practice time. The greatest lesson I learned was making them understand they are a band of sisters and to respect each other.

 After the pep talk I was packing up the gear and who’s behind me…Butterface.  ME: What’s up buttercup?   Butterface: My niece played for FSU and she was an all star pitcher. She teaches now but it’s $75.00 perm session. Me: That’s great. Have her come to the park at 8:00, am Saturday. And BTW, your shoes are untied. 
 

 Fast forward to Saturday morning. All of my pitchers show up. A blonde (36B) walks up.  Florida: Coach, let me have a moment with the girls. she teaches them the importance and fundamentals of pitching. Best money I ever spent. After, she wanted show them what they were capable of with practice. She threw like, , nine pitches with an empty batters box  Florida: Get your ass up to bat.  Me: I’m insane but not that insane. My girls as did their  parents laugh. And not person would try.

I don't think it's in either one's best interests, and I think the NBA/WNBA is proving it.

Softball is growing organically on its own merit.  Leave them be, they'll be fine.
