Cop leaves his k9 in the car following overnight shift and the dog dies :(

Recommended Posts

Essentially a local town and this cop is taking a ton of heat on social media (rightfully so and no pun intended).  People are making their Facebook profile picture their dog with a blue line through it and calling for punishment of the officer.

These comments are relentless:

Quote

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Savannah Police Department confirmed on Monday that one of its K-9s, Officer Horus, tragically died last Thursday after being left in a hot car overnight.

According to Savannah Chief of Police David Vincent, K-9 Horus died following the completion of his overnight patrol shift in the small town where he had served his community for over three years.

I know that many cops would be severely disciplined or dismissed if they left their firearm unattended.  Leaving a dog unattended for a long time ought to be considered worse, especially if the dog dies which is neglect and animal cruelty.  Also, the cost of a polcie K-9 is considerable.  If he is not dismissed it should come from his salary.

Among other punishments this officer should be forced to sit for 8 hours of continuous play of those dogs need our help commercials.

But nothing is really known yet. This "story" is premature, like the OP.

D0uchey d0uche is on ignore but I'll occasionally click to remind me why he's on iggy.  But the cop worked his shift, decided to leave him in the car following his overnight shift when it was hot as balls and the dog died.   Not sure how premature it is to state that when it's basically what the news is reporting.

(SAVANNAH, Mo.) The Savannah Police Department has confirmed the death of a K-9.

Savannah Police Chief David Vincent confirmed to KQ2 on Sunday afternoon that K-9 Horus passed away on Thursday after completing an overnight shift.

"The entire department would appreciate your thoughts and prayers, as we deal with the loss of our partner, Horus," Vincent said in a release to KQ2.

On Sunday, KQ2 spoke with Andrew County Presiding Commissioner Brad Jarvis, who had received numerous calls and concerns, and talked to Andrew County Prosecutor Monica Morrey.

Jarvis said Morrey has requested a formal investigation by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and KQ2 is reaching out to Morrey's office for any more information.

This comes after individuals started contacting KQ2 on Friday regarding their concerns about Horus.

Starting on Friday afternoon, individuals, who have requested to remain anonymous, called and emailed KQ2 believing that Horus has died, but at the time, it had not been reported or made public by the Savannah Police Department.

By Sunday afternoon, Chief Vincent said there will be no further information released until the investigation is completed.

So no results from any investigation.

Leave it to the libs to jump to conclusions. It's evil practice when dealing in law.

I'm friend's with Dave you dumbass.   What assumptions have I made other than stating what has happened?  If I'm the Commissioner I wouldn't make any public statement on this until I know more info. He really didn't say anything but he did.   And he's no lib as you always seem to try and paint anyone to one side or the other.

It's hard for me to believe an officer would purposely leave his K9 in the car to die.  If he did then I want to see maximum punishment.  If it was an accident then I feel bad for the officer.  I can't imagine how terrible he feels.

Every time we first enter our cars in summertime, we're reminded of how hot it gets inside.

RIP to the K-9. Cop didn’t mean to do this, so calm down. He will suffer even more than he is now.

No excuse.  Officers need to keep track of their equipment and their partners.  It's not like he left his handcuff key in the car, he left a 100 pound animal, his partner, his companion.

So what happened on the scene?  What was the whole scenario?

Cop exits patrol unit.

Cop does not let his K-9 partner out.

Cop completes end of shift and still leaves partner in car.

Hours pass.

K-9 partner dies as brain swells from heat and lack of hydration, a painful death.

Dead K-9 partner is discovered hours later.

Anytime said cop testifies as to the facts he remembers local defense bar will cahllenge his memory with "Arn't you the Officer whon could not remember his K-9 partner in the car and left him to die?'

If it was an honest mistake then I seriously can't imagine how he feels.  I'd put the man on suicide watch.

Don't these guys have high level bonds with the dogs they watch over. I saw a couple shows about it, but maybe they were lying. Why would you be a K9 officer if you want to kill dogs?

If he was truly negligent and of was a normal shift of work, how could that be?

I think the bigger problem is the level of accountability for the department itself. No one said, "hey, where's K9 Sally?" at the end of his shift.

If K-9's are "cops", this dude killed a cop.  I think the penalty is obvious.

Actual bail has been set on an illegal in this country who is a torturer and killer of a 12 year old girl. This is silly.

K-9 Horus.

Three person department so not a lot of oversight by others.  Not like they missed roll call and the twenty other officers attending had a chance to wonder.

"Rational" is understanding the situation before you convict.
