I watched Rugby and most of it makes sense, but I'm still confused by the entire scrum situation. I can't figure out why they take place.  Still it was a fun watch and I'm going to check out some more matches.

That's the other game I watched and was confused by the entire first part of that video.  The part where all the defensive players are in the goal crease and the offensive team gets to pass to one of their players. Is it cause of a foul or penalty?  It seemed to happen a lot in the one match I saw. 

ETA - that was a pretty cool play and a great save.

Yeah there was a foot penalty on the US when the ball is in the semicircle..  Any time a team on defense has a ball hit them while in the semicircle, it is a penalty corner…. The offense can put as many up as they want and the defense has the goalie and four defenders in the net…. The rest of the team on defense (six players) must go to midfield and wait until the ball is inserted and then run back to help…

I've been watching rugby, and agreed on the scrum.  Also, I feel like scrums used to be more... competitive?  It seems like the guy with the ball just rolls it out the back and picks it up.  In my (admittedly failing) memory, the ball would get sent into the middle and each side would drive forward to get position to kick the ball out.

This latter interpretation makes the scrum more of a "jump ball," whereas the current method has no value that I can discern.

Well, agile does work in short increments rather than large system change releases. But, I'm not sure when you speak of "priorities" change hourly if you mean a software system implementation change, or a human interaction change.

We were a field sales force, we didn't implement SW systems.  We interacted with humans regarding our SW, and their needs weren't set on 2-week boundaries.
